  • Head Over heels is a classic arcade adventure for the Commodore 64. They are separated at the shoulders but capable of joining together to maximize their abilities in some situations (but reduce them in others, so they can be split again)
    The game is presented from an isometric perspective, and presents the characters with a number of puzzles involving switches, jumps and climbs. The levels are 3 dimensional, and the characters must collect crowns as they progress. Objects can be picked up and manipulated as necessary

    Absolutely one of the best games ever on the C64. I spent a large part of summer 1988 with this game, and have to say that this is the single most rewarding gaming experience I have ever had.
    Graphics - absolutely beautiful. People are asking for colour - well, which one do you prefer: 160 x 200 resolution with many colours or 320 x 200 with a single colour? I think the beauty in this game lies in the details of the hi-res graphics, in multicolor the graphics would lose all the charming details. Ok, maybe a hi-res sprite overlay could work for the characters, but then the backgrounds would still be blocky.
    Sounds -gotta say I love the jingles.
    Puzzles & game world - a huge and atmospheric world to explore. Some devious puzzles and a lot of extremely difficult jumping action.
    The quite recent PC remake is very good, but I prefer the original C64 audio scheme.

      I got so immersed with this game, although initially I remember bow frustrating it was.... even jumping over the radiators at the beginning used to kill me off straight away 🤣 with plenty of practice I absolutely love this game. The music, the graphics, the puzzles. Just awesome 😇🕹👌

      I didn't even remember this game didn't have colors. I had to double check this really was C64 version, since my child's brain must have somehow colored the scene by itself. Weird but I agree with you, never noticed the lack of colors (until now).

    Another brilliant game from the Magnificent Seven Ocean Compilation, easily the best compilation I ever purchased. And RIP to Bernie Drummond, yet another C64 name who has sadly passed.

      Am slowly adding the magnificent seven compilation individually, was definitely an iconic compilation for the Commodore 64. Yes, we lost a lot of legends this past couple of years... they certainly left a lasting legacy amongst us admirers of their games and works ❤️🕹👌

    It isn't a typical C64 game, the isometric viewpoint, most popular on the ZX Spectrum range of computers wasn't all that popular at the time. Not many C64 games were of this type.

    An excellent explanation. All the other videos I've seen covering this title barely talk about the game, making me think most didn't get very far. I will be checking this title out, but maybe a version with a bit more colour perhaps.

    As with pretty much every 8 bit isometric game, the Spectrum version is the better game. The Beige Breadbin was never comfortable with this style of game and the single colour graphics give you a good idea of where this was released first. Having said that, its still the best game of its type on 8 Bit machines with clever layouts, smart puzzles and clean graphics. The one plus the C64 did have over the others is, as always, the music. Being a sound philistine, I never had the in game music on and, as such, certain games recall certain songs or albums. In this case its Hold Your Fire and specifically 'Force 10' that springs to mind.....

    • @CheekyCommodoreGamer
      @CheekyCommodoreGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      The best isometric game on the C64 will always be The Last Ninja, a game that shows the rest of them just how the Commodore 64 could handle isometric graphics 😇🕹👌
