Michelle Pfeiffer Is The First Batman Non-TV Series Run Catwoman Character to be On the Movie Screen. yeah there was The 1966 Batman but that was a film that was tied to the Live Action Batman Televison Series
Same here, her performance is iconic. I watched this in the theaters as a kid, and it was my first time seeing anything like her. To answer your question in the video, she was not the first Catwoman. There were Julie Newmar in Seasons 1 and 2 of the Batman TV series in 1966/67, Lee Meriwether in the 1966 movie (making her the 1st Catwoman in a live action film), and Eartha Kitt in Season 3 in 1967.
Michael Keaton is awesome. He was a stand up comedian and his hiring for the role was very controversial. But I think he’s the best Batman. His performance as Bruce Wayne is believable. He’s not overdoing it to try to cover for himself. There’s a bit of a sarcastic tone to him, but he doesn’t overcompensate. As Batman, he looks awesome and doesn’t have that weird voice Christian Bale had. Dark Knight is still my favourite Batman movie, but Keaton got the performance spot on for me. This movie was so dark that it caused Tim Burton to be fired from the director’s chair, and Joel Schumacher took over, with diminishing results. Batman Forever did well despite the campy silliness, but Batman and Robin was so bad it ended superhero movies for about 5 or 6 years.
Keaton has one of my favorite bits of acting scenes in all of Batman media. His plea to Selina at the climax is one of the more heartfelt moments of the character in film. It's up there with Bale's scene of Bruce and Alfred in the manor in Dark Knight Rises. Keaton does so much in his facial acting than any other Batman had or has done. He isn't stoic like Pattinson or playing up the playboy up to eleven like Bale. He's just an expressive actor and it's all in his face. It's a damn shame his acting isn't recognized more. If people would watch his eyes more, as Bruce or in the cowl, they'd know who the best Batman ever was.
Back in ~1985 when the script was still being finalized for the 1989 movie, they originally wanted to cast Willem Dafoe as The Joker. They couldn't get in touch with him and went with Jack Nicholson. When they signed Keaton, there was an issue with the budget and they couldn't afford both Keaton and Nicholson. Jack Nicholson actually made a deal to take a massive pay cut but backload his contract with larger royalties and merchandise tie-ins since he knew the movie would be such a massive success. This was pretty much Jack Nicholson's early retirement and why he never really needed to work anymore.
You'll notice that at the party, Selina and Bruce are the only people not wearing masks. To show that Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle are their masks, and their real personality are Batman and Catwoman.
Damn that's deep. All the times that I've seen this movie, I seen the fact that they wasn't wearing masks, and saw that they exposed themselves to each other, but I have never actually seen it the way that you just described.💪
Only those characters could tell you, for sure. But, in the scene, Selina says she's "tired of wearing masks"... which means that she's trying to be her actual self, by not wearing one. Then, she admits she just doesn't know which is which. But that could have a lot to do with the bad experience she had working for Shreck. She can't decide between getting revenge on him or trying to be happy with Bruce. It's all a big mess! But that's why we're still talking about this movie, now, in 2023. So, there you go.
I was a kid when Michael Keaton’s Batman came out, and it’s what got me into this culture-so I may be heavily biased. And while I would never dream of telling you how to live your life… Yes. Yes, he’s your favorite Batman.
@RealityDysfunction Yes, that helped a lot! They were lucky their offscreen relationship translated well into on-screen magnetism, because it doesn't always with acting couples!
Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer’s acting is so underrated in this movie. It has a theater style quality to it which fit the Tim Burton style so perfectly.
The Catwoman from the 60s was Julie Newmar, then Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt. Michelle is probably my favorite Catwoman, but Anne Hathaway filled out that outfit pretty damn well. 🤔
Great reaction! Batman Returns was my introduction to the caped crusader! FUN FACT: During one scene, Michelle Pfeiffer had to put a live bird in her mouth. They had bird puppets on-set, but Pfeiffer thought they all looked too fake. Also.. For the role of Catwoman, Michelle Pfeiffer trained at the Steeleboxer kick boxing gym two hours a day for six months. She also practiced yoga, weight lifting and karate. Additionally she spent three months training with a 12-foot bullwhip. Pfeiffer called that one of her most "challenging roles" and critics called it one of her most "iconic roles" that is famous forever. Sources found on IMDB.
There was a bit of a tonal mismatch with his portrayal in the final cut. In the original script Max Shreck was meant to be Penguins younger brother. The Copplepots had a second son that they kept after casting Penguin out. This is why Penguin wanted to murder every first born in Gotham and why Max was just there in the movie with no real role despite having some intense scenes with Penguin.
Michelle Pfeiffer is still the best Catwoman to me. She was really using that whip in those scenes, and that was an actual real bird that was in her mouth that flew out. Loved your reaction.
The last glimpse of Catwoman at the end originally wasn't going to be there, but the studio mandated that they make it clear she had survived for potential sequels. They used a body double in the costume to film that last bit, apparently it was a pretty expensive last-minute addition.
This movie is the reason Bat & Cat ship cemented on me. I don't care much about all other versions, I want to see them together. Maybe that's why I love Gotham more than I shoıld be LOL
Halle Berry's Catwoman is the only version of Catwoman that has superhuman powers. Every other version is just a thief with gear, which is why she's always such a good foil for Batman.
One could argue that Michelle Pfeiffer's super-natural survival of her attempted defenestration, and embedding of feline characters was by-definition "Superhuman"...
I was lucky enough to watch all of the 90s Batman movies in the theaters, and Batman Returns is my favorite one. Not only was it more ambitious and violent than the previous one, but the actors brought their best to it. Michelle Pfeiffer is a huge Catwoman fan, and was clearly having the time of her life here. She got the role after Annette Bening dropped out due to being pregnant, and she ended up stealing the entire movie. 10:48 The "Hell Here" scene was such a great and chilling way to introduce her new persona. The scene where Catwoman flawlessly whipped the heads off the mannequins was done in one take by Pfieffer herself; you can find the production footage if you search for it. 18:00 She really did put a live bird in her mouth during that meeting with The Penguin. 26:57 The scene where Selina and Bruce figure out each other's identities is so compelling; they're the only ones not wearing masks, and Pfieffer does a great job as portraying someone barely holding onto her sanity. 31:28 Her bitter rejection of Bruce is such an interesting scene as well; Bruce willingly revealed his identity and risked everything, but she wanted to live - and potentially die - on her own vengeful terms. The final shot of her (actually another actor serving as Pfeiffer's body double) rising to look at the Batsignal was a last minute decision by the studio. The original ending left her fate more ambiguous, but the studio didn't want the movie to have such a bleak ending, and they wanted the possibility of Catwoman showing up in later movies. This one scene apparently cost $250K to film, but it ended up being one of the most iconic moments in the franchise. Danny DeVito acted his heart out as The Penguin; he took what could have been a silly concept and turned it into something far more monstrous, grotesque, and tragic. 32:53 His final stand is one of my favorite scenes in any of the Batman movies. The Penguin rising out of the water, toxic waste pouring out of him, the slow walk to the umbrellas, and Batman turning around to face him as the music swells will be forever burned into my memory. It's a dying villain, fueled by rage, making one last, failed stand. They don't make movies like this anymore.
No Batman movie will beat the first one from 1989… Returns was not a Batman movie, it was a Tim Burton movie. It was literally a repeat of Edward Scissorhands with the Penguin, it wasn’t even about Batman. Batman Forever was better than Returns
Damn, I've watched this movie more times than I can count (yes, it's my favourite Batman movie), but I don't think I really thought about the fact that the black goo in his mouth, and possibly other parts of his complexion, are effects of the toxic waste Max has been spilling in the sewer for decades :O
That's something I love about Burtons Batman films they embrace the crazy elements along with the wacky side of Gotham not scared of going all in on the gothic retro timeless art direction something Gotham City has kind of lost in the past few years even in the comics. We went from this to the more tame Nolan films with Begins being pretty good depiction of Gotham but Dark Knight and Rises basically looked like Chicago or New York, Gotham lost it's identity. Then we got the Arkham Games which looked amazing pulling from all the Batman films and media but mostly the Batman Animated Series. DCEU Gotham looked pretty basic, not that different visually to Metropolis which is a big problem. Joker looked like 1970s early 1980s New York but the time period carried the look of that film and finally The Batman finally went back to that Gothic look and feel of Gotham City being filmed in Older cities like Liverpool and Glasgow, places with Gothic architecture. So thankfully we've returned to a Gotham City that's not shared to stand out from your typical American city. Keaton's Batman actually gets carried on in the Batman 89 comics which follows the narrative for the third Burton Batman film that was never made. It's focused around Billy Dee Williams as Two Face and introduces Robin along with Catwoman playing a part. The next two films by Joel Schumacher were seen as the same continuity in the eyes of WB but most fans see those as being set in there own continuity beyond the Burton films, Batman 89 comics also pretend that the Joel movies never happened. The Joel Schumacher also have a very different depiction for Gotham City going for a more Dark Deco Neon Gotham City, most likely inspired by the Batman Animated Series 1930s Dark Deco look and feel but less dark and moody and more colourful pulling from the 1960s Batman TV show. So the overall tone is very different but I personally still love Batman Forever. I think Joel Schumacher would've suited a Superman film more as his depiction of Metropolis would've fit the city of Metropolis just make it brighter and embrace Art Deco and the retro futuristic 1950s feel. Could easily see a Metropolis like this co existing with Burtons Gotham City. So yeah all these films nail the production design even if they go a little too far in stuff like Batman & Robin I do really like how they embraced Gotham City as a fictional place rather than do what Nolan did and try and make the city as generic as possible like seen in Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises.
Fun fact. Michelle Pfeiffer learned to use the whip for real, and actually knocked off all the mannequins heads in one take. They cut it up for the movie, but there's behind the scenes footage of her taking off 4 mannequin heads in a row.
"i am not a human being; i am an animal" is reference to the play/movie The Elepgant Man, based on the true atory of Joseph Merrick. He made a living as a sideshow freek, and in the play when people are gawking at him says "I am not an animal, im a human being"
This is one of Danny Elfman's most gorgeous scores. I particularly love "Selina Transforms" and "Death of a Penguin." Oddly, this movie also led to a dispute between Danny Elfman and director Tim Burton. (I think maybe Elfman was displeased with the way his score was mixed.) The rift was so bad that for Burton's next movie (Ed Wood), Burton asked someone else to write the score (Howard Shore), breaking his longtime collaborative relationship with Elfman. They thankfully made up, and collaborated again on Burton's next movie, "Mars Attacks."
It wasn't this movie that caused the rift, it was Nightmare Before Christmas. Danny wanted to voice Jack singing AND speaking, but the studio wouldn't have it and Tim didn't back him up as much as he thought he should. You might be confusing it with the falling out Elfman had with Sam Raimi because Spider-Man 2 ended up reusing some tracks from the first film in place of new material because the studio preferred the selections used as temp track in a couple of scenes and, again, Elfman felt Raimi didn't fight hard enough against it (they too eventually made up and collaborated again) But I agree this is my favorite film score, and Selina Transforms is my favorite musical composition of all time. I genuinely think what I call The Christmas Trilogy (Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, and Nightmare Before Christmas) are the best works in both Burton's and Elfman's careers. Yes I know Henry Selick directed Nightmare and he did a fantastic job and should be recognized for it, but it's still very much Tim's baby.
There were 3 actresses that played Catwoman in the 60's. Julie Newmar was the first. She was replaced by Lee Merriweather who was then replaced by Eartha Kitt.
25:40 I always love this scene for two reasons: Penguin asks the question we all ask ourselves, and it features the main weapon he has in the comics: his umbrella that doubles as a machine gun. Great reaction, Kacee.
Also actress Diane Salinger played Penguin's mom in this movie as well...FUN FACT - both Paul Rubens & Diane Salinger starred together in Pee Wee's Big Adventure (with Paul as Pee Wee & Diane as Simone) which was also directed by Tim Burton....
This is for me the best Batman live action film. The visuals, the new interesting origin stories, the score, the costumes, the plot. And speaking of visuals, heavily influenced by german expressionism, that's why Walken's character is named Max Schreck, after the actor who played Nosferatu in the original movie from the 20's, as another homage to that movement/influence.
The first on screen Catwoman was Julie Newmar who portrayed Catwoman in the 1966 Batman, I would say she was probably the fourth with Lee Mariwether being the second in the Batman movie released in 1966 and Earth Kitt portraying her in a third Season episode of the 1966 series.
The penguins father is played by Paul Reubens aka Pee-Wee Herman. Tim Burtons first movie is Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. One of my favorite Tim Burton movies ever.
Having Michael Keaton as your favorite Batman is not a bad thing. He surprised all the haters (his casting was not met with positivity), and is still beloved to this day.
@@hoya1178 I use to think Val Kilmer was the best Batman when I was a kid. But when I grew up I changed my opinion… no one beats Michael Keaton as Batman
@@nsasupporter7557 He is not the best one, he is a weird Tim Burton version of the character, not much resembling the character from the comics besides the costume(even though it's supposed be black)
A lot of people talk about Jack Nicholson's performance as the Joker, with good reason, but I feel like people slept on how great Danny Devito depicted the penguin. Such great actors in this movie. Still love it even though I hate watching old reditions of shows. Heath Ledger's Joker will always be my favorite and Michelle is Catwoman for me. She just understood the assignment! I do like Zoe Kravitz though. She reminds me of Eartha Kitt's Catwoman. Loved watching this with you!❤
I think that's why the Batman/Catwoman pair up is so relatable. A lot of men can relate to being, while otherwise sensible, completely smitten and braindead when it comes to the sexy bad girl. Batman is the arbiter of justice in his unrelenting pursuit. Introducing Catwoman shows that even he is vulnerable to the wiles of such a woman.
Michelle Pfeiffer is my favourite Catwoma of all time. Several women played Catwoman on the '60s TV series - my favourite was Julie Newmar. One episode had Batman and Catwoman closing a door behind them and the voiceover saying something like "Batman cannot live by bread alone".
The first to play Catwoman on screen was Julie Newmar in the 1966 Batman series and the second was Lee Meriwether Miss America/actress to play Catwoman in the 1966 Batman movie.
The biggest reason this is the best Catwoman is she has an actual personality. It's not just a random actress in a costume; Selena Kyle is actually crazy and broken, and the audience feels sorry for her because Michelle Pfeiffer is so good.
I have the biggest smile right now. I'm so happy you did a reaction for this masterpiece. This movie and the one before it (with Nicholson's Joker) are my two favorite Batman-films. Hands down.
The darkest, violent and most controversial Batman movie ever made. It was so dark and violent, most McDonald's restaurants refused to sell any of their toys for a movie with a PG-13 rating. Even kids were scared of Batman as some parents have said it was an attack on their childhood. Warner Bros wanted Tim Burton to direct a third film, but this time, more kid friendly, but he refused as did Michael Keaton who said that "Batman is supposed to be a dark superhero, and that you have to sympathize with the character and what he's going through."
I was one of those kids. Granted probably not at the time. Since I wouldve been like a year old when it was in theatres. But when I was introduced to the series a few years later Returns is the one that I didnt like due to its horrifying visuals and tone.
In my case, I didn't really find it too disturbing. I had seen far worse by that point (Robocop, for example); and I was still a kid, mind you. But the ending always left me feeling empty and depressed; despite that though, I like it just as much as the first film, if not more.
I saw this in theaters when I was 12. I know Burton's style is considered campy now, but it felt really dark as a young kid. This also made me fall hard for Michelle Pfeiffer
It was very surprising, how good Keaton’s Batman was when the film finally was released. Keaton had done a comedy called, ‘Mr. Mom’, prior to Batman, and many comic book fans, such as myself, were highly disappointed that Hollywood decided to green-light Keaton as the film’s Batman. We were wrong.
This is an interesting one. Its definitley more of a Burton film than a Batman film even though its both. It was one of the first movies that absolutley terrified me as a kid. Because of that I have far more fond memories of Batman Forever and even Batman and Robin even though those movies were less well recieved. But all 3 are beneath the behemoth that Batman 1989 was and how much it affected me as a kid.
I think they did the Catwoman really well in this movie. It leaves you wondering if she was 'given' special powers by cats but you can also just perceive it as Selina surviving a traumatic event and she just reached her breaking point, mentally.
If you want to continue the Tim Burton rabbit hole, two movies I'd recommend checking out, if you haven't seen them already, are 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' from 1985 (Paul Reubens, who plays Pee-wee cameos as Penguin's father), and 'Beetlejuice' from 1988 (the movie that helped Michael Keaton get the role of Batman).
@@DosCavazos the piece (pistol) used against/on this incarceration of Catwoman is a 6 round cylinder .357 Magnum which through physique you'll have 2 be an incredibly durable & incredibly strong 💪 fighter of a heroine/lover 2 survive/withstand being hit by up to 6 .357 Magnum rounds in the chest/torso without Bulletproof/Bullet Resistant Armor Vest as well as cackle like a hyena which this incarceration of Catwoman somewhat did near the end of this film 🎥!
For some reason I want a Ben Affleck version of Batman movie directed by Tim Burton,it would be a perfect fit. Plus, Michelle Pheiffer would be an amazing Harley Quinn as well. Danny Devito's Penguin inspired The Arkham games Penguin
For those of us who came of age in the late 80s, Keaton and Pfeiffer will always be Batman and Catwoman. I love all of the other iterations to varying degrees, but they're my BatCat.
You should definitely checkout some episodes of Batman from the 60's before Batman(the movie) it was the only on-screen time that anyone saw Batman or the bad guys. Burton did a great job of incorporating 60's Batman into his vision. Seriously if you watch a few episodes for each of the 3 that you see in the 2 Burton movies you will see how they influenced his movies. Not sure which episode it is but one with the Joker takes place at a museum and he pants on the exhibits similar to the first movie.
The original comic book Penguin was a mobster who always dressed in tuxedos (which used to be called Penguin Suits). He had an overweight appearance and a slight waddle to his step - earning him the Penguin nickname The 60s Batman had him played by Burgess Meredith, who added the laugh to the character that sounded a bit bird like. They also gave him the trick umbrellas and started giving him penguin themed lairs and accoutrements. Burton went even farther in the 90s - which you see here Penguin in the show Gotham and the newest Batman movie with Pattinson put The Penguin back closer to his origins
The first was Julie Newmar in the 1966 Batman series. The second was Eartha Kitt in the last season of that show. The third was Lee Merriweather in the big screen adaption of the Adam West Batman series. The fourth was Michelle Pfeiffer
Good reaction! Glad you like Bruce & Selina like all fans who shipped them for decades. Batman & Catwoman have been love with each other for 82 years but DC always mess with fans on when will they be endgame. Lol
This is a good example of where design trumps practicality. WTF is Catwoman in heels? Climbing buildings, hand to hand combat, including kicks.....in heels.
Great movie. You should also see the Christopher Reeve Rip Superman movies at least 1 and 2. The Christopher Reeve Rip Superman movies came out before Batman. Superman 1 is the first modern superhero movie that made the modern superhero genre
Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer will always be my favorites. Fun fact Michelle pfeiffer did the whip jewelry store scene in 1 take she did her own stunts.
Michelle Pfeiffer wasn't the first Catwoman but actually she was I believe the third Catwoman on-screen. The first ones were Lee Meriwether who technically was the first Catwoman on the big screen and the first Catwoman on-screen was Julie Newmar both are from Adam West as Batman TV series and movie.
So, to answer your question, the Batman TV series from the sixties featured three Catwomen: Julie Newmar in the first two seasons, Eartha Kitt (the first black woman to play the role) in the third season, and Lee Meriwether in the movie that came out between the first and second seasons. So Michelle Pfeiffer was fourth (and so far, the only blonde live-action Catwoman). Fun fact: the subplot in this movie about the Penguin running for mayor was probably inspired by an episode of that show (Tim Burton watched it as a kid). Also, it's kind of appropriate that your knowledge of Catwoman came from the 2004 movie, since it obviously took some inspiration from this one. (I, too, was a fan of that movie when I was younger, though it was mostly because I had a crush on Halle Berry.) Anyway, I'm certainly glad you enjoyed Burton's two movies (Michael Keaton is also my favorite live action Batman), though I'd recommend you check out Batman Forever as well (it has more a lighthearted tone compared the previous films, but still feels like a continuation in my opinion).
Nobody can ever top Michael Keatons Batman, Michelle Pfeiffers Catwoman or Danny DeVitos Penguin. Many people have tried but can't even come close. ❤ love your reactions . Also i think dont quote me, but i think you are the first batman returns reactor to use michael keatons bat signal as the blue/ format for the movie reaction and i love it ! Batman 1989 thay you previously reacted to and batman returns are my favorite movies ever those and China Seas made in 1935 starring Gone With The Winds Clarke Gablw and Jean Harlow. Such a great movie especially made so early. keep up the great work. You got this ! ❤️😎
I remember watching the filming of Michelle's scene, she was suppose to use the whip to take the heads off the dummies in a store and did it on the first take! And walked off to a round of applause!
Max Schreck was named after the actor who played the first Dracula in Nosferatu. NOT Shrek (different spelling). And Batman didn't reveal his identity to Vickie Vale. Alfred did. For me, the next two moviesdon't exist. They're really dumb and have more in common with the campy 60s Batman than the comics. Keaton remains my favorite Batman, as he is more of a man of mystery (remember the first movie where he took the film from Vickie) and as such, is a man of few words. So that when he does speak, you listen. Current films have eliminated the comic book feel and are too grounded. For example, Joker was never just a guy in face paint. RETURNS remains my favorite Bat-film to date. So it was great for me to see Keaton return to the role after 3 decades. He's still got it!
You’re the second reactor to this movie I’ve seen who made a connection between Max Shreck and a cartoon ogre that appeared nine years after this movie, and not Max Schreck the German silent film actor who famously starred in 1922’s Nosferatu as the eponymous vampire.
Ive always said i would marry the first woman that could finish the line about the mistletoe, i would say the first part and if she finished it (with no hints just randomly saying the line)she is the one for me
32:01 I liked it how Catwoman calls Shreck a moron, when he asked Bruce Wayne why he dressed up as Batman. 33:04 you know, I used to get scared 😱 of the dead body of max Shreck when, I first saw it on 📀 as a kid.
Fun fact: 'Batman Returns' was the fifth feature film Tim Burton directed. Previous to this, he had directed 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure '(1985), 'Beetlejuice' (1988), 'Batman' (1989), and 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990).
Fantastic reaction as usual, really loving these! Back in the day when this movie came out, as a kid I remember it was all over the news cause the parents were in an uproar over catwoman, things were different back then of course, and there was still the notion of Batman being a hero for kids and adults alike. But, again, back in the day, they considered Michele Pfeiffer's Catwoman to be oversexualized, the whole dominatrix thing, Penguin saying "just the p**** Ive been looking for" (Lmao), and there was backlash, news reports...etc. Keep in mind there was no internet back then so a lot were sheltered from the more lascivious things, and you know, parents thought 'Oh it's Batman! Ill bring my kids'...etc. Anyway, liked the Tim Burton style, it was pretty dark, but his first two movies is what brought back Batman to his darker roots and tone (with the help of Frank Miller's comic 'The Dark Knight Returns') - after the campy 60's Adam West Batman. Great reaction, and hope you watch the third one 'Batman Forever'. Looking forward to it!
Fact: Michelle Pfeiffer had a real live bird for that scene with the penguin. And she had it there for a while. Later in an interview, she said "I can't believe I did that. I could have gotten a disease". All because it was pre CGI effects era.
Fun fact about the nose bite scene and McDonald's. Back in the 90's as well as now McDonald's would release Happy Meal toys to correspond with big blockbuster movie releases. They would typically do that right as the movie releases so they don't get to see the movie before promoting it. Cut to the nose bite, over all violent nature of the movie and sexual innuendo and McDonald's was super pissed that they were promoting the movie to kids with Happy Meal toys.
This is one of many different origin stories for Selena, Kyle. The most definitive version of the character she’s a jewel, thief, professional gymnast, an acrobat using her impressive contortionist skills to break into pretty much anything. I motivations change from source to source, but among them, she steals to fund various animal rights organizations. But mostly it’s just so she gets a kick out of stealing the un-stealable.
60s had THREE con screen cat women. the actress was rotated in and out of the roll. It was also an early example of changing a character's race. All 3 are supposed to be the same character too. this Catwoman was the 1st to have the cat resurrection and the whip. the look went over to the animated series and all the new versions Penguin was also in the 60s where in that he also runs for mayor Newer Penguins make him a friend of Bruce who goes down a darker path For future movies Riddler was in the 66 series Mr. Freeze was in the 66 series played by 3 different actors , but his tragic back story was created in the cartoon series Robi's origin is the same all around Two Face, Poison Ivey and Bane were each on live action for there 1st times Batgirl was created for the 66 series but had a very different back story

Awesome movie
Michelle Pfeiffer Is The First Batman Non-TV Series Run Catwoman Character to be On the Movie Screen. yeah there was The 1966 Batman but that was a film that was tied to the Live Action Batman Televison Series
No ma’am, Julie Newmar was the first onscreen Catwoman in the 60s when Adam West was Batman.
However Adam West wasn’t the first Batman technically.
I would stop here with the early Batman movies. The next two are at best, long toy commericals.
I can say for sure that Michelle Pfeiffer is definitely my favorite Catwoman. 😏🐈 -Kacee

Yes!!
Wish they would let burton do bayman beyond
When can we expect Kacee’s Catwoman cosplay?
@@ChrisWake and when he says I’m Batman, he doesn’t seem goofy. He’s legit intimidating.
Lol, Batman & Robin didn't "end superhero movies" for 5-6 years. It was released in 1997, already in 1998 we had Blade, then in 2000 we had X-Men.
Keaton landed the role after the drama film “Clean and Sober.”
I LOVE the touch that both Bruce and Selina were the only ones at the masquerade party not wearing masks. When normally they do wear masks.
You'll notice that at the party, Selina and Bruce are the only people not wearing masks. To show that Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle are their masks, and their real personality are Batman and Catwoman.
Also the song play at first was Super Freak by Rick James.
And while I would never dream of telling you how to live your life…
Yes. Yes, he’s your favorite Batman.
I loved Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer's chemistry, they were SO good together!
Probably better than Val Kilmer and Nicole Kidman
Their chemistry was so good because they actually dated prior to Batman.
Julie Newmar had that classic hour glass figure, she looked the best in the catsuit imo
Newmar and Kitt were only on TV. Meriwether was the first Catwoman on the big screen
One of my first times noticing girls were "lumpy" was Julie Newmar...meowwww
I appreciate how much sympathy you felt for The Penguin. You rightly understand that he's a product of his tragic backstory.
Uhhhh...cats have 9 lives.
She's not a foil idiot. She's literally his lover lol
33:17 that "I picked a cute one" gag still tickles me to this day
Fun fact. Michelle Pfeiffer learned to use the whip for real, and actually knocked off all the mannequins heads in one take. They cut it up for the movie, but there's behind the scenes footage of her taking off 4 mannequin heads in a row.
Another fun fact… or not so fun fact: she almost suffocated in that suit
She was SOOOOOOOO hot. Still good lookin'.
But back then...damn you, Tim Burton!
@@nsasupporter7557how is that possible when there’s a mouth And nose hole? Did she get overheated?

My favorite Batman movie of all time and Michael Keaton is still my favorite Batman.
"i am not a human being; i am an animal" is reference to the play/movie The Elepgant Man, based on the true atory of Joseph Merrick.
He made a living as a sideshow freek, and in the play when people are gawking at him says "I am not an animal, im a human being"
A lot of people did not notice that the Penguin's dad was Paul Reubens ( AKA Pee-wee Herman)
This is one of Danny Elfman's most gorgeous scores. I particularly love "Selina Transforms" and "Death of a Penguin."
Oddly, this movie also led to a dispute between Danny Elfman and director Tim Burton.
You might be confusing it with the falling out Elfman had with Sam Raimi because Spider-Man 2 ended up reusing some tracks from the first film in place of new material because the studio preferred the selections used as temp track in a couple of scenes and, again, Elfman felt Raimi didn't fight hard enough against it (they too eventually made up and collaborated again)
But I agree this is my favorite film score, and Selina Transforms is my favorite musical composition of all time.
Michael Keaton is and will always be Batman
There were 3 actresses that played Catwoman in the 60's. Julie Newmar was the first. She was replaced by Lee Merriweather who was then replaced by Eartha Kitt.
It’s funny how Julie Newmar was the first Catwoman, but Adam West wasn’t the first Batman… Lewis Grant was from 1943
25:40 I always love this scene for two reasons: Penguin asks the question we all ask ourselves, and it features the main weapon he has in the comics: his umbrella that doubles as a machine gun.
Great reaction, Kacee.
Fun fact: Paul Reuben, who plays Penguins father in this movie. Also plays Oswalds father in the Gotham Series.
@@MLJ7956 I forgot about that.
Tim Burtons version of Batman will always be my all time favorite. He created a masterpiece.
I think Michelle is the best Catwoman we've ever seen. She is not only beautiful, but a wonderful actress!
"I'm Batman...I'M BATMAN..."
-Michael Keaton
The first on screen Catwoman was Julie Newmar who portrayed Catwoman in the 1966 Batman, I would say she was probably the fourth with Lee Mariwether being the second in the Batman movie released in 1966 and Earth Kitt portraying her in a third Season episode of the 1966 series.
Keaton is the BEST. 🔥🦇🔥
The penguins father is played by Paul Reubens aka Pee-Wee Herman. Tim Burtons first movie is Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. One of my favorite Tim Burton movies ever.
HERE KITTY KITTY. BEST CATWOMAN ALERT.
Having Michael Keaton as your favorite Batman is not a bad thing. He surprised all the haters (his casting was not met with positivity), and is still beloved to this day.
He should be everybody’s favorite Batman.
@@nsasupporter7557 Why? lol
@@hoya1178 because he’s the best one
Loved watching this with you!❤
Lol, Keaton's Batman kills so many people casually
Hands down.
This is for real my favorite Batman movie out of ALL of them. I re-watch it every year at Yulemas. It's one of our seasonal favorites
Yeah this was a lot more "Burtoney" than the first movie upon rewatching it recently
Because Burton had more control over this film than the 1989 movie.
Agree with Tim and Michael
Actually, to hear Tim tell it, they practically begged him *not* to come back.
In my case, I didn't really find it too disturbing. I had seen far worse by that point (Robocop, for example); and I was still a kid, mind you. But the ending always left me feeling empty and depressed; despite that though, I like it just as much as the first film, if not more.
Hope she has another fave Catwomen too, Celina is a powerhouse in this. also feel like she can have a fun time with the sillier Schumacher flicks.
I saw this in theaters when I was 12. I know Burton's style is considered campy now, but it felt really dark as a young kid. This also made me fall hard for Michelle Pfeiffer
Yea same here, she is gorgeous as Catwoman/Selina Kyle
33 years in the sewer didn't age the penquin too well
the first onscreen Catwoman was Julie Newmar in the 1960s Batman series
Michelle and Michael will always be the best actors for those characters
I'm still impressed by this baby carriage intro scene. Michael Keaton was very good in the Mini series "The company" (2007). He's an underrated actor.
Fun Fact if you didn't catch it Penguins father was played by Paul Reubens AKA Pee Wee Herman
Guys, should we petition for her to play the Arkham games? I don’t know if they do gaming, but it would make for one heck of a reaction

The scene in the park before his parents drop him off the bridge.... That was the Wayne family they passed with little Bruce in the stroller...
The original comic book Penguin was a mobster who always dressed in tuxedos (which used to be called Penguin Suits). He had an overweight appearance and a slight waddle to his step - earning him the Penguin nickname
The 60s Batman had him played by Burgess Meredith, who added the laugh to the character that sounded a bit bird like. They also gave him the trick umbrellas and started giving him penguin themed lairs and accoutrements.
Burton went even farther in the 90s - which you see here
Penguin in the show Gotham and the newest Batman movie with Pattinson put The Penguin back closer to his origins
The first was Julie Newmar in the 1966 Batman series. The second was Eartha Kitt in the last season of that show. The third was Lee Merriweather in the big screen adaption of the Adam West Batman series. The fourth was Michelle Pfeiffer
" You and I are the same, split down the middle. " - Batman 🖤
Keaton has been my favorite live action Batman since '89!
Burton didn't care about logic. He just cared about how cool evetything looked. It's fairytale logic.
Michael Keaton is my favorite actor of all time
Great movie.
Michelle Pfeiffer is the coolest Catwoman ever! This movie makes wanna reply Batman Arkham City just for Catwoman’s story
Pfeiffer is actually the fourth. Eartha Kitt played Catwoman in season 3 of the 60s show.
Best female performance in a superhero film
(I, too, was a fan of that movie when I was younger, though it was mostly because I had a crush on Halle Berry.)
Anyway, I'm certainly glad you enjoyed Burton's two movies (Michael Keaton is also my favorite live action Batman), though I'd recommend you check out Batman Forever as well (it has more a lighthearted tone compared the previous films, but still feels like a continuation in my opinion).
Were you part of the crew, or were members of the public able to watch the scene being filmed?
19:13 They are perfect for each others. And still both broken. :)
You’re the second reactor to this movie I’ve seen who made a connection between Max Shreck and a cartoon ogre that appeared nine years after this movie, and not Max Schreck the German silent film actor who famously starred in 1922’s Nosferatu as the eponymous vampire.
Michael Keaton was my first, and still favorite, Batman.
26:02 This is a reference to _The Elephant Man_ (1980), which is well worth watching.
Ive always said i would marry the first woman that could finish the line about the mistletoe, i would say the first part and if she finished it (with no hints just randomly saying the line)she is the one for me
The best part is that pee wee herman was the penguins dad at the beginning of the movie lol. Rest in peace Paul Reubens
She survived, yet we ended up never seeing Michelle reprise the icon role YET I guess that makes it even MORE legend!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👊🏻
Keaton is my favorite batman!! His voice is so good .. the whisper..

Julie Newmar was the first on screen Batman in the 60s Batman tv show.
To this day, this is my favorite Batman movie. I have it memorized practically line for line
There was a movie released in the 1960s that was based on the old Batman TV show. That Catwoman was played by actress Lee Meriwether.
Fact: Michelle Pfeiffer had a real live bird for that scene with the penguin. And she had it there for a while. Later in an interview, she said "I can't believe I did that. I could have gotten a disease". All because it was pre CGI effects era.
In the comic batman actually married catwoman
I’m rolling. I’ve called Max Shreck “Beethoven Shreck” since the movie theater.😃
60s had THREE con screen cat women. the actress was rotated in and out of the roll. It was also an early example of changing a character's race. All 3 are supposed to be the same character too.
this Catwoman was the 1st to have the cat resurrection and the whip. the look went over to the animated series and all the new versions
