Haven't done arc air for years and years now, but I regard it the most effective process in weld removal or prep work on plating for welding processes. The use of abrasive disks in the above is just my worst procedure . Is it that carbon arc has become a forgotten application in today's industry? Great video there - Thanks. It takes me right back there to those years -"On the Bench"
i have never done carbon arc gouging myself but when i was in the navy i spent six months working fire watch with shipyard workers and welders and such so i saw a lot of it. loud and lots of smoke
No you don't is fucking horrible, airfed mask is a must. But it can be useful especially when you fuck up lol. And can be easier to flush a weld off than a acetylene gouging nozzle.
@@chrishensiak986worst thing besides it being huge health hazard is getting a welded piece and having to remove weld defects in very unreachable areas its all fine and dandy when you're removing root for full penetration weld but fixing bad welds is a big pain also takes ton of practice to consistently remove all weld defects for Xray or UT when you cant even see or reach the joints properly . It is valuable asset in any metal fabricating business tho i feel sorry for the poor guy doing the gouging and repairs

Great vid man! Lots of good arc shots! Thanx for posting :)
The subtitles are hilarious. And to think I only came here for the arcs...
I just learned that arc gouging was a thing this afternoon and damn, this makes a plasma cutter look bad.
How does the cleanup compare to oxy/acetylene?
Chips right off. Spray with silicone release spray first. And the slag won't even stick.
not to bad. try about 30 more amps.
ey man, how big was the air compressor you used for this?
JayP JR
the compressed air source is shop air at the College.about 90psi of line pressure.
What the psi you are using ?
Moving the carbon too slow and the wrong direction
sir I want do gouging
no you don't it sucks. It's hot and miserable Smokey work

Don't use ac current. Use DC current
my workplace requires all welders to know arc gouging i hate it so much even more then grinder
With a little practice , it can really save a lot of time.
