How to bend with a Hossfeld Bender
In this video I use a Hossfeld bender to bend a 1"diameter tube frame. This is a good exercise on how to use this bender.

    My first time using a Hossfeld bender was in 1971. I've bent a piece or two. Have two of them in my garage...

    thank you Chris.....wish I cold be in your class.... the one thing you did not mention, is the mark on the die showing where to line up the material.... I just had to but a 166 degree bend in 1 inch 14 gauge, and use a 20 foot stick,,,,,having that 10 feet out of both ends was fun to control for one guy....haha.... unfortunately, the Hossfeld without the L long frame will not go past about 110 degrees......so we had to go to manual from hydraulic after getting to 110 degree.... but after bolting the machine down, we got it done.... we cold have done in one bend, after my cohort showed up to work, we had the Armstrong power to do manual ... I am 71 years old and did not want to kill myself, as I had done some short bends on our manual bender...... best wishes from an old guy in Florida, Paul Brown

      That machine will not do Aluminum GTAW. It will conver/ run GMAW Aluminum. You will need a special GMAW gun/ lead

    Haven't done arc air for years and years now, but I regard it the most effective process in weld removal or prep work on plating for welding processes. The use of abrasive disks in the above is just my worst procedure . Is it that carbon arc has become a forgotten application in today's industry? Great video there - Thanks. It takes me right back there to those years -"On the Bench"

      @@chrishensiak986worst thing besides it being huge health hazard is getting a welded piece and having to remove weld defects in very unreachable areas its all fine and dandy when you're removing root for full penetration weld but fixing bad welds is a big pain also takes ton of practice to consistently remove all weld defects for Xray or UT when you cant even see or reach the joints properly . It is valuable asset in any metal fabricating business tho i feel sorry for the poor guy doing the gouging and repairs

    I've had my 350P for about 10 years & am really an occasional user. My 'grade school! welding education was learned on an old Lincoln gas engine and later an Airco DipPak 250. All was well until I took on [or tried] aluminum welding of our neighborhood irrigation works that I hit the proverbial wall. Had a pretty good teacher in the group but I never got the hang of it. Then one day Miller Pulse makes its debut & made aluminum welding child's play [at least in my world]. About 4 days ago I had a *piece of cake* small welding job where I needed to weld some washers on a 1/2" axle. Fired up my 350P for this all steel 10 minute job. For days later and I'm still struggling with it. The last time I used the machine [4 months ago] it was to weld some hooks on the loader bucket. All steel work that went off without a hitch. Now all the damn thing will do is deposit a single bead and quit. Wait a few seconds and get another bead. Like a breaker was tripping & resetting. Was going to take it in for repair on Monday but decided to listen to Chris' video again. This time I was paying more attention to the Timers segment when he mentioned the Spot timer. Didn't know it existed but it sure sounded like it could be my problem. Crossed my fingers & headed for the shop. Sure enuf, the Spot was set on its shortest time, reset it to 0 & you can guess the rest. Thanks Chris, you made my day!.

    Do the numbers mean anything (like millimeters of top roller travel) or are they just a relative indication of position? Also, I’d love to see a program run - do the increments of travel automatically increase each time you change direction?

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are correct. When you use a step bend program the upper DIE lowers by the same amount each time. But you have to cycle the roller backwards and forwards each time to get the upper DIE to lower.

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as travel goes there is less timing or automated control of that movement.

    My machine is a manual one not hydraulic but I'm pleased with it I have dies up to 1 and a half inch for round does a really good job on flat bar on Edge 2 the days are very expensive very very expensive and they're not and they are pretty labour intensive to make 2 so you're better off buying the sections at a massive price

  • @deodathbirbal

    Sir am trying to understand the settings on the machine the digital setting any video on that thanks. A lot of videos of the machine actually bending the pipe but nothing on programing how you arrive with the numbers to enter and how to enter it.

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest way to set this machine is to use the manual for the brand an type of roller. The way we figured it out after understanding the digital input is basically trial and error. You can use material of the same type and make several test bends. then record the results. After a few bends in the same material you will get a sense of how much each incremental movement will in turn move the material. I hope that helps. Chris

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fastest way to get the right settings is trial and error. A Lot depends on the material. we use scrap to see how much each increment of down movement changes the radius.

  • @neilbrown3359
    @neilbrown3359 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do agree that it looked great when you were gouging. No sticking at all! But good lord that's a lot of amps! I'm gonna tie a cv/ cc and a old Lincoln 250 dc together and let the sparks fly

  • @neilbrown3359
    @neilbrown3359 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've gouged with 400 amps with a 1/4 round rod with no problems. 800 amp is a little high

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the electrodes were 3/8" according to specs. that require approx. 100 amps per 1/16 of diameter. 600 amps works but a little more digs a lot deeper and cleaner.

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chris Hensiak If you use smaller electrodes you can do, a reasonable job. the other thing you need a lot of is compressed air 80-90psi works well but for really big electrodes 100- 120psi with lots of volume works better. it is really a matter of how much you want to remove at one time.

  • @michaelwilson2916

    umm, 3 phase? I believe that unit is also single phase..also you called out the gases on your wall as argon 1st, blended 2nd and C02 3rd. should you be connected to the 1st one?? I presume you are using this welder for Aluminum?

    • @chrishensiak986
      @chrishensiak986 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Smith This machine is currently configured for ER70S-6. Yes this machine will convert to single phase but requires a lot more amperage for that set-up. With welding mild steel the shielding gas that the students use is CO2. It is the most cost effective gas and requires a little bit more skill to master.
