Two of my children have been especially strong willed and defiant. Only 1 of them has had ODD. What a transformation in her life following Teaching Self Government!

She always wanted control and was terrified she would never be able to control herself! Once she learned that skill - she didn't have to fight us and accepted our direction knowing she had the power to choose.

The first part of this video made me feel reassured my child doesn’t have ODD. Then the second part made me feel certain they do.🤦🏻‍♀️

ODD is disheartening and terrible. Trying to be calm and remember all the right skills is such a challenge.

Thank you for this! I will send this to my husband. I’m currently reading your Parenting a House United book. It is so great!

How do you “teach” a 15 yo he does NOT get to decide that attending school is optional… passing grades, or other basic expectations?

Seems like there’s a fine line between kids with ODD and strong willed kids… 😅

Videos like this makes me cringe. We are deliberately trying to make everything a syndrome, denying basic normal children behavior that tiny humans have experienced everywhere, in every time. It's the history of the world. They will eventually grow out of it, we just need to be firm and loving. Videos like this are really dangerous in the hands of stressed out parents. Engage with them, give them interests, your children are ok. It's just really hard being a parent and we need to embrace that without rushing to find syntoms and syndroms which we can magically cure with the right "parenting trick." it's SUPPOSED to be hard😂 embrace THAT. i will add that there are surely some good advice in this video, some of it us just common sense.
