    Things that attract me to a folding knife (or even a fixed blade) are:
    1) Blade Geometry- does it cut things (big & little things), can it slice.
    2) Handle Size & Shape - many knives have handles too small for my XL glove sized hands. Along with size is the handle ergonomic.
    3) Blade Lock-up - is it strong enough for its intended purpose? Quoting Ethan Becker, “I have never had to stab a tree that was attacking in the woods”.
    We must remember that knife blades cut by slicing. They do not chop or pry or manipulate screws. Too much is made of fancy super-steels. This country (and most of the world) was settled by people using plain simple high carbon steel blades. Their lives depended upon their knives more frequently than ours do. There are plenty of good simple steels; I like O1 and D2.

    👍 Very good review. I would like to have seen the knife in actual use rather than just the chit-chat, but good review.

    Looking at this or an original Italian 4 Max. I am good with the 4 max size, I think it is extremely good lock. I really like the overall shape. But that TM1 micarta and blade are just sexy. Just not sure that one piece micarta is even close to as strong as the 4 max.

    Did you had any problem with the bearing? I tend to stay away from bearing in a knife because i fear dust any other material can bust the action with a good outdoor use.

    Deciding between this and the Hogue EX04. Roughly the same price and size.

      tough choice I don't like the clips on Hogue knives I have never actually owned an ex04 so can't offer much help. If possible try both in hand at a store. There is one consideration the Hogue is available in a larger size. I will say the Lionsteel is a great knife.

    I own a bunch of really nice framelock knives..... lately my main focus on a knife is the locking mechanism. Andrew Demko is the man. His knives are ridiculously awesome. I got a Cold Steel AD10 and besides being huge it’s exactly what I would like to see in a custom tactical knife. Jus a bit smaller.

    Things that excite me. Light weight, 4" blade, high quality steel. If it happens to be a microtech. Really want the new rockstead. But I might have to settle for the rockstead shin. Like the idea of insanely sharp blades.

    Thanks for the response Kevin. I know I didnt really get into too much detail with my last question, but my last question is, which knife would you say in your opinion feels like it could handle more abuse (heavy duty, accidental dropping the knife repeatedly, a slight bit of batoning etc.) between the lionsteel TM1 and the Pro Tech, TR4 for example? Theres not many videos on how much abuse the pro tech auto knives can take.

      +MrBigpapiiii I've not seen much about the protech auto's they look cool and I can say protech does very good work, Lionsteel is also quite tough but don't baton with a folder even a light small fixed blade will handle it way better. Any knife can have the tip break if dropped while open even 4095 is not indestructible. Have you considered any ColdSteel stuff?

    That is one beautiful blade! I love Lion Steel, have 2 SR1s,a HEST MIL SPEC ,Daggetta, M2 fixed blade and the Spydy Lionspy. Those bearings seem like an unwarranted expense with a backlock. Sure wish more companies would get more into those drop/warn/rev tanto/sheeps foot type tips, I have a few with such shape and I really...REALLY like them. But the big question is, how would it hold up against the Bear Grylls ULTIMATE folding scout knife???haha, cheers Kevin, great vid as always

    Hi, bought this knife but disappointed with the quality. Rusty spot appeared after a drop of water dried on it. The lock became not even after minor play and the screw is not evenly fixed..

    IMHO, Maniago Italy has become the newest super power in the knifemaking community, similar to Seki City and Solingen. I have an SR-1 and a Viper Start, the fit & finish is excellent for the money, which puts them somewhere in the middle between Cold Steel and Sebenza, Strider, etc., more along the lines of ZT, Spydie, and Benchmade. Good bang for the buck.

    How does this knife compare as a comfortable, light duty mostly edc compared to the pro-tech strider automatic knife?

    • @Kevinclearysharpstuff
      @Kevinclearysharpstuff  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrBigpapiiii It's very different it would be a very good edc it may be a little short for some and the blade is very thick even though the edge is quite good. But yeah blade, deployment, lock, construction, materials are all different.

    I turned the thumb-plate 180, much more comfortable to flick open.

    Are you sure its G10? Isn't it a milled-out solid block of micarta? Oh, forget it, you addressed it at the end of the video lol

    • @Kevinclearysharpstuff
      @Kevinclearysharpstuff  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      rbloch23 yeah its micarta for some reason I just couldnt stop calling it g10 through this video

    G10 and micarta are barely even similar. As an amateur knife maker, the difference to me is considerable. A knife enthusiast should know the difference.

    Hi, good video as always :)
    One little correction, since sometime also the aluminum SR1 and SR2 Mini ( check out my review for proof) get the Sleipner steel, btw those are both great knives.
    have a great day :)

    your going to find this weird but to me it looks kinda like a American law man from cold steel.
