    Beautiful spalting in that wood!

    Excellent video, bro. ✊ Elegant simplicity & precision…understand this bit, you can always get fancy as you go. Love that free floating sled…ride the side of the blade. A board (with a notch for blade) clamped to the table would give your jig something to ride against. 🤔 Thanks for the jig! ✌️🍷🎩🎩🎩

      Thanks for the kind words! I'm tied up with projects and summer activities, but I'm hoping to post a sled upgrade soon.

    Don't trust your fence? Why are you still using a jig after the first 2 cuts?

    Nice little stash and even some spalting!

      Thanks! I have a large stash of hardwood logs that need milling. I'm actually working on a project that will allow me to mill a 5' long by 13" diameter log that will be featured in a future video.

    Hello,
    I wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent work you have done on your bandsaw log mini mill operation. In your previous write-up, you mentioned that you would continue to make improvements, so I was curious if you have implemented any changes or enhancements since then.
    I understand the importance of maintaining the integrity of the original design, and I have learned from past experiences that making unnecessary changes can sometimes lead to unintended consequences. Nevertheless, I would be delighted to see any new videos or pictures that showcase your progress.
    Please keep up the great work, and may you continue to experience success in your endeavors.
    Best regards,

      I appreciate the kind words!
      We've had a very busy summer here, but as activities wind down I'm beginning to have more time to work on this. I've designed a gearbox for a fence I'm working on and a rack and pinion system to drive the sled. Really all that's left is to put everything together. I'm hoping to have an update soon!

    All you need is one flat surface; no need to screw that log on every pass. 2:51 that was really close to destroying your blade.

    That's a nice setup. I'm gonna be getting into chainsaw milling soon, slowly buying what I need. I have a log that looks similar, I think it's blue ash but I can't wait to cut into it

      I haven't delved into chainsaw milling yet, but might have to if I come across any larger logs.

      @@themoyersdostuff it can be expensive to start out but I bought a granberg mill on a black Friday sale and I found a stihl 660 for $500 on Facebook marketplace. I'm hoping to find a black walnut but my first slab or 2 is going to be trial and error so I can wait

    • @themoyersdostuff
      @themoyersdostuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is awesome! I actually just got my first chainsaw but have never used one before. Going to be helping a friend mill up a large walnut next month and will start learning the ropes then. Let me know how that chainsaw mill works out for you!

    I wonder if you could use large C-clamps instead of screwing into the jig every single time

    • @themoyersdostuff
      @themoyersdostuff  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a really good idea!

    • @onsh
      @onsh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've been thinking about this but I can't find large C clamps that can be bolted down to a board. They don't usually have a flat bottom with a couple bolt holes to attach. If you guys find some suitable clamps, please link.

    Do your bandsaw have a maximum cutting height of 6 or 12 inches?

    • @themoyersdostuff
      @themoyersdostuff  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's listed as having a maximum height of 14", but with my current jig I can resaw a log of up to about 11".

    • @adamthewoodworker2571
      @adamthewoodworker2571 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@themoyersdostuff That's awesome. Mine only does 6", so I don't think I could do much resawing of logs with it rn. But eventually I want to get the riser blocks for it

  • @hleijendekkers

    What max saw depth should your bandsaw have to this?

    • @themoyersdostuff
      @themoyersdostuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      My bandsaw has a max resaw depth of 13" (33cm). With the milling jig, I lose about 3/4" (1.9cm) from that depth when milling.

    What is the most affordable way to get a bandsaw big enough for this?

    • @themoyersdostuff
      @themoyersdostuff  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You might have some luck looking on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. The saw in the video can resaw up to about 14 inches.
      I've just about wrapped up a build that allows me to saw larger length logs without having to support them while cutting. I'm hoping to have the video up soon.

    • @themoyersdostuff
      @themoyersdostuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's certainly not ideal. I couldn't think of a better way to secure everything while I'm picking up/putting down the jig. I have a new system now and should have a video of it soon!

    So inefficient....

    • @kelmanadventures574
      @kelmanadventures574 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      He doesn't have a custom milling buisness...so for a hobbiest it doesn't need to be incredibly efficient he's making his own boards good on him. Ofcoarse he knows there are faster better ways out there but he uses what he has and makes some nice boards
