Flynn Wants to Teach You About Walnuts
Flynn has been asking for some time to make a video for TH-cam. He's also recently become obsessed with collecting walnuts, so naturally I've combined these two things. This video is what we've come up with.
Keep an eye out for our next video where we put our "money where our mouth is" and demonstrate how these walnuts can be used to make a dye you can use at home for various crafts.
Go Flynn go!

Building and Milling Logs with the New Bandsaw Sled
มุมมอง 2.9K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a project I've been working on for some time. It's by no means a polished finished product, but rather a proof of concept (really, I had a lot of logs that needed milled, and I couldn't wait anymore). The goal was to create a sled for use on my bandsaw that can handle larger logs than my previous sled (up to 5 feet or ~150 cm in length) without having to support the weight of the log as...

The Moyers take their first camping trip of 2023 at French Creek State Park in Elverson, PA. Did it rain all weekend? Yes. Did we run through all our clothes on the very first day? Yes. Did the canopy of the camper break due to all the rain? Yes. Did we still have fun camping? Also yes. It may not have been the best weather, but we still had fun! Milling an Ash Log with a Simple Bandsaw Sled
มุมมอง 41Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I'll demonstrate how I turn small logs into usable lumber for small woodworking projects. This is a piece of white ash that I found on the side of the road. I love finding pieces of timber like this, because you can often be surprised by what you find when you mill it up. The sled I'm using to mill this log is a simple setup made of leftover pieces of MDF countertop fastened toge...
Winterizing Your TrailManor Camper
มุมมอง 772ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I'll walk you through the TrailManor Owner's Manual instructions for winterizing your camper. Winterizing a TrailManor camper is quick and easy, and this video will demonstrate how quickly you can perform the ten steps to get ready for the colder temperatures. The only tools you'll need is a 1 1/8" socket, and some RV antifreeze (maybe).

We love our TrailManor! That being said, the dining table leaves a little to be desired (no pun intended). In this video, I test a solution to keep the table from sliding apart and dumping your meal across the floor. That may sound ridiculous, but when you have children, anything is possible. TrailManor Walkthrough Outtakes

Flynn decided to help me film the next camper video. This is why it takes so long to make new videos.
Great job, Flynn! Maybe you will be a teacher one day. 💙
He's one smart kid!
Do your bandsaw have a maximum cutting height of 6 or 12 inches?
It's listed as having a maximum height of 14", but with my current jig I can resaw a log of up to about 11".
@@themoyersdostuff That's awesome. Mine only does 6", so I don't think I could do much resawing of logs with it rn. But eventually I want to get the riser blocks for it
Can’t communicate? Can’t watch ya Next
I'm not quite sure what you mean?
Beautiful spalting in that wood!
I've gotten very lucky with some of these pieces!
Excellent video, bro. ✊ Elegant simplicity & precision…understand this bit, you can always get fancy as you go. Love that free floating sled…ride the side of the blade. A board (with a notch for blade) clamped to the table would give your jig something to ride against. 🤔 Thanks for the jig! ✌️🍷🎩🎩🎩
Thanks for the kind words! I'm tied up with projects and summer activities, but I'm hoping to post a sled upgrade soon.
I wonder if you could use large C-clamps instead of screwing into the jig every single time
That's a really good idea!
Where did you get the fence?
It was included with the band saw.
This is what im looking for whole day..thank you bro..
I'm glad you found this helpful! Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks for posting this. I needed to see it, and I did.
Thanks! It certainly made putting the fence in easier.
My table bolts up but I may modify it somemore to I can quickly changed the blade instead of taking the table off and reinstalling it which is a 45 minute process. I enjoy everyones ideas on stuff. Thats how I learn.
I hear you there. It's a pain to get mine out to change the blade. Version 2.0 is going to be a flip down table top.
Well after 13 logs my carbide enhanced resaw blade no longer cuts. I have sharpened 6 times now. So off to Grizzly to buy the cheaper blades. They may need to be changed more often but I can get 3 for the price of 1 of the carbide enhanced blades.
Enjoying the work. I have 4 logs left of the 15. I have done over a 150 logs on my resaw sled. Added winch and varible speed.
I like your setup! Just subscribed to your channel!
Happens. The grizzly cheap blades will break like that. I am trying a 89.00 carbide reinforced blade. I have sharpened 4 times on these 15 red oak logs.
Do you sharpen your blade on the saw?
I haven't yet. Just put a new blade on after the last one popped and started lubricating the blade before each cut.
This week I did 17 red oak 47 inch logs some had to cut down the middle with a chainsaw. 18 is to big for my 17 inch 2hp grizzly
Great job. Those big logs are fun. Markjonesranger.
Thanks! Still making tweaks to the system but enjoying the process!
My opinion, not user friendly.
My second thought is, he struggles to get everything in place. If he struggles that much how much harder would it be if he wanted to set it up on a windy day.
The first thing that caught my eye was, why is there not a way to use a drill to raise and lower the camper? That would take a lot of stress out of cranking and cranking and cranking and cranking and cranking to get it where you want it? That is the new technology and it doesn't cost a cent more.
Toys!!!! Definitely,..kid is on the ball.
What size moter is that? Wher can i buy ? ❤ shes a beuti
I'd have to look it up. We didn't purchase this, we rented from a local company. It was relatively inexpensive and we had all the holes dug sooner than expected.
So inefficient....
He doesn't have a custom milling buisness...so for a hobbiest it doesn't need to be incredibly efficient he's making his own boards good on him. Ofcoarse he knows there are faster better ways out there but he uses what he has and makes some nice boards
Thanks for the kind words! This was my old way of milling. I have a new setup, and I'm constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency.
Great idea, did you ever update with a moving fence and clamping points?
Thanks! I haven't updated yet: I've been working on 3D printing a rack and pinion fence system with a gearbox that I'm hoping to feature in a future video. Everything takes longer with kids!
Yes it does!@@themoyersdostuff
Impressionante. Seria um milagre um desses no Brasil com pbt de 400kg.
That is a cunning hat!
Shiny!
Looks like one of the most dangerous contrivances on the woodworking internet. The operator's position consistently puts his right arm in danger if something goes sideways and he reaches forward. The kerf will be closing up and binding the cut since there are no shims to keep it open and there is a high likelihood that the operator will push too hard and possible fall into the saw losing an arm.
Unless he's completely brain dead this thing is fine. He's not pushing hard in the video and if the kerf closes hard enough that he really needed to full-body shove it would stop the blade. A sign that something is wrong and he should stop. You could have any big piece of lumber you're resawing close up hard too and you'd be in the exact same situation just doing a normal resaw. Again, as long as you're not dumb it's fine. Like every single thing you do with any saw.
holy cow i was literally about to make those same kind of rollers...like exactly the same, do you mind sharing the .stl for that?
Great minds! I'll upload the .stl and post the link later tonight!
@@themoyersdostuff you are amazing!! Great video and nice solutions/results you came up with in the video
That really means a lot to me, thank you so much. I'm still learning how to make these videos, and although things aren't polished, this idea was kicking around so long that I just wanted to get it out. I've uploaded the .stl and .step files to Printables here: www.printables.com/model/734680-low-profile-bandsaw-sled-carriage Thanks again for watching!
heck yeah brother, keep up the great work, the video was very entertaining and i learned a lot from it, and i appreciate ya for it as well for sure!! Thanks for the stl's too. cheers bud! @@themoyersdostuff
Excellent DIY! Most of us forget the simple kiss method of developing things which results in expense add complexity.
Thank you! I can say that I spent very little money on this and have some great looking boards as a result.
good job 👍
Thank you!
Thanks for your informative videos on the TrailManor pop-up camper. This is one brand and model we are considering purchasing; however, we would like to know if it's possible to transport 4 regular-size bicycles inside while it's folded up? It doesn't look like your particular model has roof racks that allow one to transport bicycles and/or kayaks on top.
Thank you for your comment! I have heard of others loading their bicycles inside the camper, but I haven't tried it myself, other than smaller bikes for the boys. The trailer does have a receiver for a bike rack, but I believe it has a weight limit of 100 pounds. This year TrailManor is offering a sport package for their 2518 and 2720 models that includes a roof rack on the front shell. Otherwise, you could research installing one yourself (I haven't looked too much into this, but I have heard of others adding after-market racks to their setup).
What max saw depth should your bandsaw have to this?
My bandsaw has a max resaw depth of 13" (33cm). With the milling jig, I lose about 3/4" (1.9cm) from that depth when milling.
Makita lb1200
That's a nice setup. I'm gonna be getting into chainsaw milling soon, slowly buying what I need. I have a log that looks similar, I think it's blue ash but I can't wait to cut into it
I haven't delved into chainsaw milling yet, but might have to if I come across any larger logs.
@@themoyersdostuff it can be expensive to start out but I bought a granberg mill on a black Friday sale and I found a stihl 660 for $500 on Facebook marketplace. I'm hoping to find a black walnut but my first slab or 2 is going to be trial and error so I can wait
That is awesome! I actually just got my first chainsaw but have never used one before. Going to be helping a friend mill up a large walnut next month and will start learning the ropes then. Let me know how that chainsaw mill works out for you!
I believe that there was no tension on the blade as you made the cut. The blade was dancing around before it contacted the wood. You did not provide much video of the attempt so I slowed it down to 25 percent speed to watch it better. The blade did not look to be tensioned properly. I am glad that no one was injured. Good luck with your future projects.
I noticed that as well. I'm thinking there was a partial break in the weld that happened during the prior cut and I didn't catch it before making this cut. I'll have to review my video to see if I can find it.
Keeping the gullet sharp removes the stress fractures that lead to breakage.
The discoloration at the break leads me to believe your blade snapped at the weld as well?
I hadn't looked too close, but I'll have to grab the blade out of the recycling to see if that's the case. Another comment suggested the same thing.
looks like a bad weld
That seems to be the consensus. It taught me a lot, and the new blade is already performing better.
That's goofy having to screw and unscrew into the log every time.
Yeah, it's certainly not ideal. I couldn't think of a better way to secure everything while I'm picking up/putting down the jig. I have a new system now and should have a video of it soon!
You gotta do that after each cut? Hmmmmmm
Not anymore! I have a new setup that I'm hoping to get a video uploaded in the next week or so. Stay tuned!
Safety first bro
Thank you
Great video content! Cheers from south of Houston!!
Thank you!
What is the most affordable way to get a bandsaw big enough for this?
You might have some luck looking on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. The saw in the video can resaw up to about 14 inches. I've just about wrapped up a build that allows me to saw larger length logs without having to support them while cutting. I'm hoping to have the video up soon.
I really like this thing but it looks like its going to become a leaky nightmare in a couple of years. How does it feel to you so far
We're winding down on our second year with it, and it's held up wonderfully aside from some minor issues. Absolutely no issues with leaking so far, and we've had it out in some pretty heavy rain.
As the others have said, it is a well. Were it me, I would run my roof runoff to it, and put in a small pump to feed water to the garden. (I would not drink it though.)
Hi! We are driving behind you on the way to Knoebels and we saw your TH-cam channel tag. So we subscribed! Have fun!
That is awesome! Thanks for subscribing, and enjoy Knoebels. It's one of our favorites!
TY How's it holding up over all. Cheers
All in all it's holding up really well. The biggest issue I'm currently facing is the bench in the dinette has broken (the brads holding it together pulled out). I'm sure having two kids constantly jumping around on it didn't help matters. I was able to fix it with wood glue and screws easily enough. Otherwise, we haven't had any major issues that required us to take it in for service.
@@themoyersdostuff TY
Could you feasibly use this camper in the winter if you don't intend on using the plumbing?
