I want to go to Calarts but my household is really low income, and I’d come out of state. Do you know if there’s big scholarships to help cover costs? Hi! I am not an expert but I know the school gives out scholarships if they like your work or if you are in need, and if you are an American you can sign up for the Taco Bell internship for example! Many of my friends got that one. Okay and as for the Jobs: With Netflix booming like crazy there’s actually a lot of jobs right now especially for storyboarders, and they are also bringing 2D animated films back so they are looking for traditional animators as well!! Which is so exciting!! In general people always seem to be looking for 3D artists as well. I hope that helps!!
I would suggest for u to work, save money while practicing to be in the level of calarts students. Then apply. It will take u time to be on the lvl to be accepted in the program, so start practicing and taking classes. While u spend this time in getting better, try to find a job that pays good enough money so u can save.

Despite the fact that this year all of the courses were fully online, everyday life was still full and busy. I really feel I learned a lot during the past year! Calarts does a great job providing the best equipment for us luckily, we work on large cintiqs and have free color printing and professional recording and mixing studios and all the programs we might need. I for example animate on TVPaint!

I feel like coming up with a good story for me is always super challenging, so I sometimes actually just work off images or designs I like first and then think about what the story can be here. I will do the first rough boarding pass which usually either doesn’t make sense or has too much unnecessary points in it or is just too long (my time limit this year is 4 minutes), so from that moment ok me and my classmates try to boil down the story until I basically say one clear thing and I try to not loose the scenes with the images I like (because that’s what made me want the film in the first place). I do multiple passes until I can play an animatic that requires no extra explaining from me and that is clear on its own, and then I am done finally!

I am not technically an international student on the paper though, because even though I grew up in Germany my father is American and I was born with the American citizenship luckily, so I don’t really know how the visa here works. But yes I am planning on staying in the US after because that’s where the studios are!

Hey, how's it going? I am also an animation student, a beginner looking to start animating. I'm shooting to become an character designer. I haven't animated anything yet, because sadly I was stuck with gen ed courses. I'm planning a project, any advice? How did figure out your flow of work? How long is the process ?
I learned animation just through my classes, but if you don’t have that opportunity Right now I would definitely look into getting the book „The animators survival kit“ which is the Bible of foundations for any 2D animator out there. Also go check out Aaron blaises TH-cam channel! He does tutorials and films himself animating, for example the snow bear one, and says some really helpful stuff! If you have the right resources it doesn’t take long until you can animate your first little bouncing ball and stuff, and from there you just grow with Time :) I started to really love animating after about one and a half years. Hope this helps!
What programs do you use for the different processes? Like the rough sketches you do on photoshop? Or after affects? Then you put all the digital files into after affects or something? I’m just a noob but I’m Interesting it learning and making animations:)
Jakob Hollstein hi!! Fall semester I sleep way less than spring semester because that’s when the deadline for portfolio and films is getting closer and closer. I could probably sleep way more but lately nights like today happen where I go to bed at one and wake up again now which is 4AM and decide to reply to TH-cam comments or look at my schedule again because I feel unproductive lying in bed XD. But that is my own problem that I need to work on because I work way slower when I am tired, so up until crunch time I try to at least get 7 healthy hours of sleep every night
