I've been hunting and shooting deer rifles now for close to 45 years so take that for what it's worth. I admit I haven't tried too many brands of 7.62x39 and don't really feel the need to in my rifle at least I recently built a 7.62x39 AR and just put a Romeo red dot on it, was going to use it for deer hunting at ranges of less than a hundred yards. (That's what most of the shots are going to be on my farm) I sighted it in initially with the 123 grain Wolf hollow points and I was getting about a 2" group +- at 100 yards. For hunting I switched over to the PPU 123 grain soft points and my groups remained around 2 in I'm happy with that confident I can take it to the woods and kill a deer with no problem. I also shoot PPU 100gr PSP predominantly in my 243 deer rifle as does my wife and son. I bought it initially because of the price I was getting it for about $12 a box a few years ago I've got Remington, Winchester,Hornady ammo and it shoots as good as any of them do for a lot less money in my rifles anyways. I'm guessing that one shot you had that was low was a flyer and was probably a you issue I know you don't want to hear that but more than likely the gun moved or trigger pull wasn't perfect who knows but I found PPU to be fairly accurate ammo. I always shoot off a solid bench rest when I sight in with bags and I try to take as much of the human error out of it as I can other than the trigger pull. All that being said PPU is not bad ammo. It's good ammo and for the most part I've never had an issue with it and either rifle or handgun.
thanks for watching and thanks for the feed back i need to get a gun vise or lead sled for my ammo test. to eliminate human error as much as possible. and in the video it seems like I'm knocking ppu but I'm not it great ammo for the price considering price's of ammo at the current time
Ive been shooting Sellier and Bellot 123 grain steel case and it really groups well. 5 shots in under an inch with a can. Its one of my favorite rifles. I enjoy your videos and subbed.
Great video, I got some norinco 122 grain 762x39 full metal jacket ammo and it got stuck in the bore, tried it a few times and it kept happening. Tried the PPU soft tip and it worked like a charm.
I had the exact same problem with the Norinco Red Box ammuntion. I have heard that Bernaul's, PPU and Wolf all run much better. I think it has something to do with the tar they use to seal the neck of the case.
I just picked one of these up for $260! Can’t wait to take it out and put some golden tiger through it and see how it does against Tula. Great vid 🅱️Orther
I was pretty disdainful of that cartridge out of an SKS. Biggest reason that I never got an AK pattern gun until I learned about the 5.45x39. But it makes handy and accurate bolt gun fodder. I understand that Alaskan police carry Krebs AK's in 7.62x39 to deal with nuisance polar bears.
@@SierraADV I think last year they were like 460 ish..extremely hard to find tho. Good 7.62 ammo is hard to find too and as far as reloading u can't hardly find any bullets for it
@@nontypicalredneck89 I'd be curious to see some 0.308" diameter vs 0.310"/0.311" reloading science done for this rifle. I've heard anecdotal claims that 0.308" diameter bullets will still group in these.
I own two of these rifles in 7.62x39. The Maxx tech was by far the worst shooting ammo I tested in these ranch rifles. So I figured I would run the Maxx Tech in my AK.... Nope. I had 3 failures to eject in one magazine alone (keeping in mind I also have a KNS piston installed). My Ak does run other ammo flawlessly so I'm thinking the maxx tech might be under powder or I just got a bad batch.. idk. Now back on to the Ruger Ranch, my rifles shoot Wolf MC 124gr FMJ, Wolf Polyformance 123gr FMJ, Barnual 123gr FMJ, and WOLF MC 124 SP super accurately (1"-1.3" MOA @ 100yrds).
If you can get some, Tula has some 154 and 124 grain soft points. I'm sure they are hard to find. I found out from Ruger they use a .311 bore , so not sure what all is out there for reloading bullets for hunting.
thanks for watching, the only bullets i have been able to find in the last little while has be from Lehigh defense and all the steel case i can find is the 124 fmjs stuff
@@nontypicalredneck89 Not sure if you have a Dunham's sports shop where you live but they have all kinds of 7.62x39 ammo SP's, HP's, and FMJ from many different manufacturers
Great video glad I found your channel. I subscribed. I'm NOT CRIDISIZING you at all. But I must point out a mistake I think I can see you make. When you put the gun on your rest your moving it to different spots between shots. As much as two inches as I can tell from your footage. This raises and lowers the barrel and changes your scope angle. I'm glad I found your channel.
@@turinreza it's actually a misconception that steelcase ammo can damage some firearms even some AR manufacturers say not to use it I have no idea why you ask most gunsmiths and they'll tell you that there's nothing wrong with steelcase if the gun is properly manufactured to the correct tolerances.
I've been hunting with the ppu pointed soft points for about 3 yrs now and have killed 6 nice bucks with it. I don't have the same gun but my gun gets about inch and a quarter groups with it.

I am convinced that this rifle does not exist -- that every RAR 7.62 that has ever left the factory is currently spoken for.
I bought this one last yr and it was near impossible to find
GBroker has three different sellers holding them right now with a 599 BIN. Might be starting to filter back out.

Just scored 840 rounds of PPU M67 clone. The military loading seems to be a bit hotter than their commercial loadings.
PPU is good ammo for the price that sounds like a backhanded comment I guess but I've never had an issue with PPU ammo.
Keep up the good work
