Thanks for another great video. We appreciate your honest reviews and hard work! Our TCX X39 works incredibly on hogs and deer! We LOVE this load at Defiant!
This has us *VERY* interested in seeing tests on your 5.56 and .300blk rounds for potential duty use, out of carbine and sbr length barrels, subs and supers.
Defiant really seemed to know the consumer. Building that round to home defense rifle lengths instead of some crazy frontier rifle length really sells the ammo.
The Defiant ammunition with its 124-grain projectile had an average 50-yard velocity of 2213 feet per second for an average 50-yard kinetic energy of 1348 energy foot pounds. The Federal ammunition with its 123-grain projectile had an average 50-yard velocity of 2205 feet per second for an average 50-yard kinetic energy of 1328 energy foot pounds. And since we have the numbers for 75 yards: The Defiant ammunition had an average V75 of 2140 for an average Ke75 of 1261. The Federal ammunition had an average V75 of 2128 for an average Ke75 of 1237.
Defiant continues to impress, and the Federal wasn’t a slouch either. Defiant for 2 legged and Federal with deeper penetration for 4 legged critters. Thanks for another nice test Tools!
I also use the PPU soft points and pointed soft points for shooting hogs, have used them for a good number of years, they work great, the bonus is that they are only $13.95 a box.
It's always impressive how much more energy a rifle has over a pistol. I have a CZ 527 in 7.62 x 39. The Defiant would make a deadly deer hunting round.
Both did very good on the Doppler. Both did good in the gel, but that Defiant is amazing! It seems that on all calibers Defiant is coming out on top for sure! Now that we have better choices in this caliber, guess what I will be replacing my Tula with? You get what you pay for as well. 💣🕳👍
Defiant Munitions is my Go to ammunition. That said the 7.62x39 124gr TCX is my favorite round. Not only is it an impressive at penetration and expansion but the accuracy is incredible. I've made some impressive shots out to 200 yards with just a red dot sight. Shots I wasn't able to make with just regular 7.62x39. Oh and great video man! Love your energy 👍
I like old skool lead soft point ammo in a lot of calibers for hunting...... it's worked for decades. I do shoot some premium Nosler Trophy Grade ballistic tip rifle ammo in .300 WSM and 7mm-08.
Happy Birthday to our great nation Tools! Too hot for us down here to get any range time, but cleaning and polishing is part of staying prepared. Hope ya'll have a great one and thanks for all the greatness
The Defiant ammo was indeed impressive, at 50 yards, but at 50 bucks a box it won't be my hog killing round. I could certainly see having a dedicated home defense AR pistol dialed in with those for sure though or for deer hunting. But I wonder how far down range enough speed will be lost to where the solid copper won't expand. Test it out for us maybe??? The Federal is expensive for just a soft point at 30 bucks a box, but did well in the test. At $13.95 a box I'm still using the PPU 123 grain soft points and pointed soft points for killing Texas hogs and it does a fine job. Would not hesitate to use the PPU as a defense round either. Another good video with good real world data, thanks Tools.
The Defiant had better expansion but the Federal had deeper penetration. All depends on personal preference but either one will do the job. Thanks for another great testing video.
I’m picking the federal. Deeper penetration, lifted the block way higher on impact, transferred more shock to the block. And it peeled back better. Copper bullet did well though.
Yo Tools. Good-Good stuff their my friend. You have a great set up for testing ammo. You have definite leveled up. Great to see all the different ammo speeds the the expansion, penetration and so on. Massive disruption. Defiant and Federal Rock. I applaud you for your really nice range testing set up. Keep it up. 5 Stars ⭐️. Be safe and keep on truckin!🇺🇸🇺🇸⭐️
iam not easy to empress with bullet expansions .you know as I do I guess you tested expansion maybe as long as me 44 years. many factory brands don't live up to expectations. that defiant ammunition expansion has totally rocked my world .I greatly enjoyed the video. Papa 😊
🇦🇺😎👍I love that caliber , too bad we don’t have semi autos down here🥲. It’s all about safety😉👍.. love those Ruger American bolt action rifles…wow nasty entry , nice 👍 … double nice…The truth contraption …wow it would be hard to remove those copper hooks… great results from both but send me the hooks any day🏁👊😎👍
That was very exciting big hoss. It's a perfect example of why the 7.62x39 round, is a big favorite of so many. Not to mention the AK platform. Thanks again my friend.
Can you do the expansion test again at 100 or 150 yards? close expansion is great but the energy drop off starts at about that range for this round and copper will not be able to expand as well. The defiant munitions looks great as a hunting round if it can maintain expansion at range.
Wow! I will be checking out some Defiant tonight! That was impressive. I’d love to take some different calibers in the woods with me this season. That Federal did great too. Very cool of them to supply some ammo to test. That shows confidence in their product. Awesome stuff as always 👍🇺🇸
I don't own a 7.62x39 but if I did it looks like I'd be loading it with the Defiant ammo. Now I have to go back and see if there's a video with .223/5.56 Defiant that I missed or have forgotten about. I've got too many different calibers and ammo types to keep track of lol. That Defiant was impressive!
...I don't own a 7.62 platform, I'm only here to witness the results of Defiant Munitions' cartridge Their .380 ACP load is now my carry ammo; need to get more soon though!
Both would be great for deer & pig hunting. The copper slug is truly impressive. Shooting in the Ruger American, that caliber is an excellent choice for young hunters. Mild recoil and keep the shots in close. Well done Sir. 👍🦌
Excellent test! I would be happy with either. It would come down to availability and if I could afford 2 1000rd cases. I love 7.62x39 and 5.45x39. Thank you again. You do an excellent, average guy real test. Thank you.
Man, the Federal did pretty damn good, i love em myself but i gotta say, Defiant absolutely SMOKED em on this one. I mean there just aint no comparison lookin at them two projectiles. Defiant does NOT fuck around!
GREAT TEST!!! Really enjoyed this one/ Having it at 50 yards was a great idea. Drives me crazy when others test rifle cartridges at 10-20 feet. I've used the Federal load in many, many Ak-47's, several SKS's and also my CZ527 and it has always been the most consistent and accurate load I have found. However, I have not yet tried the Defiant load which looks especially impressive. I think they're both great rounds. I'd say to use whichever is appropriate for the penetration required for that application
GREAT TEST!!!! I would be happy to use both of these loads. The Federal would be awesome for hunting. But the Defiant would have excellent quick expansion for smaller bodies like a broad side deer. I personally would hunting with the Federal and use the Defiant as a self defense load.
Defiant Munitions seems to cut the penetration down to make it closer to ideal for a man size target. The expansion on that bullet is impressive. If the problem is larger than man, perhaps the Federal is more suitable.
Great test today Tools. While the Federal penetrated further, over penetration for me, and expanded pretty good the Defiant came out far superior for me. Good penetration, maybe a bit to much, but expansion off the chart. I'll take that performance over the Federal penetration any day. Good combination of both requirements, sufficient penetration with over the top expansion. Those guys know how to load their ammo. Be vigilant and always be safe my friend
Great test Tools. Those are both effective rounds but you can't deny Defiance. Excellent expansion. Nice to see the stats they put on the box too. Great company. Have a great, safe Independence Day!💥😎💥
I am an ar15 man but I also love the Russian firearms I have an old sks and it’s fun to shoot so I still have a lot of 7.62/39 for it and I am now getting into buying a couple of AK47 rifles for my collection the price of ammunition is getting crazy and I don’t get to the range as often as I would like but it seems like there’s more 7.62/39 ammunition available to purchase so I can get into some AK47 stuff now thanks for the great videos
That copper round might be my next favorite . It's gonna take a lot for it to knock out my favorite steel cores ! I like my SKS to punch stuff and that looks like it's got it !

I would certainly be satisfied with either one. I'd say it would come down to accuracy, cost, & availability. I am curious as to what kind of groups the solid copper would produce out of that little Ruger. I certainly appreciate the way you present the ammo comparisons like the way you do things. Excellent presentation as always.
This was an awesome test! I need about 500 rds for some short range wild piggies. I think I'd like to have that Defiant. I've killed a couple with Federal. If anyone has used the Defiant please let me know. If Defiant reads this, I'd appreciate your input. Thanks again for this video.
I’m liking the copper bullet the best . Both should take a deer or hog. I have taken deer with the TSX Barnes copper bullets and they do a good job. Thanks for the video.
Nice results ! I'll have to check again to see if they have any in 40S&W and .308. I have 40s&w barnes vortex copper expandos. Thanks to Difiant Munitions for test supplies and to you for the test !
Got a Howa 1500 mini in 7.62x39. It has a 20" heavy taper barrel. Going to include these loads in my search for favorite fodder accuracy selection. If the DEFIANT comes out in top three I'll pop the $ for it. Doubling in diameter with the penetration results justifies the cost.
Dude you are on fire! Pumping out so much high quality content at a steady pace is impressive - keep up the good work!
Legit. He's really been dropping back to back lately.
