Hey, all! Please read this before commenting. I understand this game is precious to many, but understand that I did not grow up with this game and played it for the first time for these videos. I don't have the nostalgia towards it, and all I could do was be honest with my thoughts while playing. If you have comments, please share! But please be civil. Also, a mistake! Toward the video's end, I say "A game released from before I was born." When really, I meant to say "A game released from before I could play." I was 3 when RE2 came out, but the point still stands.
Thank you for fully finishing my favorite classic resident evil game. I think you're in for a treat with resident evil 3: Nemesis. I think they learned a lot from re2. One main scenario but with different player choices to alter the story or at least it's ending. A real improvement on Mr. X with nemesis and rewards for struggling to take down nemesis. Keeping replays fresh with the game having a built in feature of randomizing item locations every time you play. I'm hopeful you'll enjoy it, but I could be wrong.
Thank you for watching and supporting! Those all sound like excellent additions tbh. I do think I'll enjoy it. Based on what I've read, 3 sounds like exactly what I'd want from classic RE. Also, what makes this one your favorite?
@clickingaming Honestly simple stuff. I just like the music the most, claire is my favorite heroine in the series. I think its the perfect beginner re. It's easier than the first game while still having a challenge. There's still the back and forth exploration without being as complex as the mansion. The zapping is system was unique and they never brought it back. I think it just stands out on its own. This game makes me question why I even like games. I mostly say it's for gameplay and that I don't care about story, character, atmosphere. I think that's mostly because I play hack and slash action games and retro fps where gameplay is put above all else. If I'm being honest it makes it tough to play other genres that offer different aspects of what makes games great. Resident evil 2 tells me i do appreciate other aspects of videogames and even a cinematic approach, just not at the sacrifice of gameplay like a lot of modern cinematic experiences try to go for. Those games led me to have a negative bias towards all open world or 3rd person cinematic games that I think isn't fair. I just can't shake the bias. It's like how I liked halo for its universe and setpieces and unique look to its weapons, and its characters but since playing doom and retro shooters sees halo's gameplay as slower and more repetitive with one optimal solution that makes playing it feel lesser. I don't know if this is natural when playing more games or more games in a genre in general. That the games we used to love turn out to be not as good as we remember or we find something we like better. I'd appreciate your insight on this topic.
I definitely agree it's easier than 1, haha. I also appreciate your insight on why you like it the most. That's a good point that it isn't as complex and you view this as a good thing. Personally I love complexity in my games, so the more the better, as long as it's within reason. It's cool that RE2 is the game you can point to that explains your love of games, too. I don't know if I have a game like that? Maybe Alan Wake 2? But that's a recent game so it's hard to say yet. Also, it's hard for me to say definitively that games we used to love turn out to be not as good. I've replayed quite a few games recently for the first time since childhood, and a few of them I remember being even better than before. Mass Effect 1-3, Jak 1 and 2, Dead Rising, etc. Dark Cloud is one that I played and thought was worse, tbh. I think it's hard to have a definitive answer on that, and it depends on the game instead!
@clickingaming It's part of the reasons I think talk of soulless remakes exist. The re2 remake doesn't really have memorable music. Mostly just ambient noise. So alongside gameplay changes and camera changes it just feels empty. The beauty of the rpds artstyle is lost when they go for a filter to just try and make everything dark. Being dark isn't what made re2 scary or a horror game. That and capcom made us pay real money if we wanted the og soundtrack which is also the only way you can get the voice at the title screen. You know when it says "Resident Evil". Based on your critiques of the scenarios I think the remake improved by having one overall scenario. The issue is B scenario and A scenario are the same story beats for the characters so if you play claire a Leon b you get the exact same story as Leon a claire b. It does remix puzzle and item locations and Mr. X shows up sooner. Other than that it seems to have suffered from the same issues you said the original had. Also personally just not a fan of the redesigns and character dialogue. That's subjective though. Maybe I just need to revist these older games I loved with an open mind for what they are. You talking about mass effect and jak and daxter reminds me I still have 100s of great games I've never played that I need to get to.
That's.... really good insight on the remake changes. It sounds similar to what people are worried about with the SH2 remake tbh. You're making me super curious to try out remake, though I won't be getting to it until much later as I'd rather play through all of the older games first. And it can be hard to approach them with an open mind at first, but if you're able to it can be super rewarding! Some games simply don't hold up, of course, but many do!
Yooooo Finally, glad to see you continue playing RE serious and finishing original RE2. Can’t wait to see you play original RE3. It’s my favorite game from the original series. You should definitely play it at least twice to experience all of the events
Thanks for the support! I'm happy to be done with 2, and yes I'm hyped for 3 as well! I think it's gonna be much more of what I'm looking for out of these games. Why is it your favorite? And I will absolutely play it twice!
@@clickingaming glad to hear that. I hope you get into it soon enough 😁 It’s my favorite because of the gameplay and overall level design. I just fell in love with raccoon city, and nemesis is my favorite enemy in the whole franchise. Little side note: you will have multiple nemesis encounters, and on hard difficulty, he will drop very op weapons, it’s really challenging to kill him, like harder than anything that came before, but it’s worth it. I would suggest to just enjoy the game on your first play through, but on your second play through, try killing him every time he shows up to get all of the goodies. Looking forward to seeing it 🙏🏼
Glad to see you finally got around to Claire B! And while I love the game, as it's my favorite RE game ever, I can understand some of your complaints, especially with this particular scenario. Most worthy things for Claire B for me is the 3rd floor Mr. X jumpscare, I prefer Chief Irons Claire B death over Claire A, while vice versa for Ben's death, with me preferring it in Leon A to Leon B, and Annette's Claire B death. Also Claire calling Mr. X a sucker is kinda funny. As for the scenarios I sorta understand, with 2 Remake making both A and B scenarios practically the same story, but that's one reason I'm kinda disappointed by it. They could have improved and expanded on the A and B scenarios, which was originally planned but they scrapped it. Also just curious, is the audio fine these two playthroughs around for Leon A and Claire B? Just curious
Claire B's Mr. X scare is probably the best Mr. X scare in all four scenarios, tbh. And I agree calling Mr. X a sucker is hilarious. I just wish they combined the best parts of the A and B scenarios is all. I haven't played 2 Remake yet (will do so probably after RE6) but that's a shame to hear they didn't expand upon the scenarios. If the A and B scenarios are practically the same story in RE2 Remake, then, again, why have both? Haha. And yes the audio is fixed this time! Since my save from my previous videos got deleted somehow, I emulated a PS2 version of the game instead with better audio.
Yes!!! Yes! Finially! I've been waiting so long for this. And I'm a Leon A Claire B kinda guy even though the canon ending is the opposite. Btw there is a funny typo in the labs triple lock door that you get with Leon entering the room. And I'm always proud of you. I have some funny resident evil shorts on my channel. Feel free to check them out if you want. Till next time! -Medic out
