In this video I opened my new incubator, a Brinsea Ovation 56 EX model, and then I filled it up and hatched out my chicks! In total I had 43 chicks hatch!

One thing I don’t understand is why people call it “LOCK DOWN “ if they are going to be opening. It supposed to be locked after day 18 without opening until day 22 people

Yeah, that can be confusing. It isn't so much that it can't be opened at all after lock down, just that it should be avoided if possible. Only opening it, if it MUST be, after that point. No candling and messing with the eggs. There are some situations where you need to use your best judgment to determine if it is absolutely necessary. Like if you have some early hatches they shouldn't stay in the incubator longer than 24 hours, but at the same time opening the incubator while chicks are trying to hatch can cause complications with them hatching.

I have the 28 eco for 3 years now used about 10 times with no less than 95 percent hatched great incubators

Thats awesome! This first hatch went amazing, 43 hatched! Now I have a batch of turkey eggs in it, it's not completely full but I'm hoping for a few 🤞

Hi, thank you very much for your video. I have 2 questions about the 56 EX. Can you tell me if there is an alternative for the evaporation blocks? And can you tell me the diameter for the water hose? Pump hose? I think 2x3 or 3x4 mm?
    Many thanks for your help
    Greetings Toni

We're happy you liked our video, and thank you for your questions. As as far as the evaporation blocks go I've been using paper towels rolled up so that they fill the water pan similar to how the first evaporation block fit. That has been working well so far, but I was thinking about trying to use a thick sponge and see how that works this hatching season. Then as for the silicone tubing I haven't had to reorder any yet but the packaging says " 10' 3m silicone water tubing" I'm sure you could see what Brinsea has for reordering or check Amazon depending on where you live and what's easier to get.
Also We are gearing up to get another hatching video started so I'll make sure to show what I've be using for the evaporation blocks in that upcoming video. 👍

What was your hatch rate for this incubator? We used this incubator for the first time and only got a 50% hatch rate.

Great question. The last hatch that we did with this incubator we had 72% hatch rate but we have had up to 80%!
We also have a incubation series on the channel that was done with this incubator as well that shows how we do our hatches if you are interested.
Air cell development is how you determine what the humidity level needs to be which can have the most impact on hatch rate.

Here is the link to the first video of the Incubation Series. At about the 6 minute mark I talk about the humidity level.

    How did you sanitize?

First I wash everything with dawn dish soap and warm water and then I wipe everything down thoroughly with Hydrogen Peroxide, allowing it to air dry afterwards. I've been doing it this way for the last several years.

Are you local, or at least close? We have plenty of eggs from our Gems but I couldn't guarantee anything shipped would be in good condition.
