Agreed. Having used 77, there's no way I'd spray that in a work space. It gets onto everything and leaves a tacky coating on every surface. I once used it in my garage (the cars were outside in the drive), and the floor was tacky for a week. That stuff is great, but it deserves it's own place to apply.
@billwells7464 yes, I'm surprised Adam isn't more careful with spraying paint and Super 77 in his work area. Shouldn't that be done in a separate space, like a spray booth?

I can't say enough how much I love this video series. Seeing the sheer amount of work that goes into a model like this is both fascinating and highly underappreciated. Thank you to the whole team and Adam for bringing us all along for this amazing journey. Cheers. 13:22 When Adam says he wants the black to eat the light, I'm surprised he didn't use Vanta Black or some equivalent product.
This video series has gone on a Starfield Hype list of videos I "playlisted" and also triggers my ASMR each video... SO GOOD!!! Thank you Adam and Tested team for making these and thank you Bethesda for partnering with Adam and the Tested team to make these videos possible! (love that Bethesda has been putting these videos up on their own Starfield page as well!) I love this channel and all the things you do so much and your enthusiasm for every project you do is such a great feeling, keep up the great work!
Did something similar when I was working on a recent LEGO build. Had all of them in a playlist just running while building. I can see how you'd get the ASMR angle for sure!
You know, if I was being reaaaally compulsive about overspray, I think my first layer of protection would be pinstriping tape. It's SO flexible and handles contours really well. Thank you so much for this series, it's been not just really wonderful to watch, but educational and inspirational as well. It's lovely to watch the whole team building something, applying their particular skillsets.
This series is so cool. I had a short-lived interest in miniature creation when I was 14 (9 years ago) when I first got addicted to Warhammer. Seeing this unfold has gotten me back into honing my craft. I could not thank you guys enough for this.
I think model sets of the starfield ship parts would be a fun kit to buy at a toy store. you cold buy the parts and then assemble them, snap and attach different models to make your dream ship.
With the ships in game being totally modular i think differences in their paint choices for each module of ship would give the feel that each module was added, or from a different manufacturer, time period, company, or even planet. The one thing people will be doing in game is changing and rebuilding their ships.
To watch someone who is full of passion and excitement for their craft is a joy , even if the thing they are doing is not in your usual circle of interests.
This ship is really coming together! I may get some flak for this, but the best thing I have found to remove spray paint from my hands is brake cleaner. melts it right off. Then I wash as normal, and rehydrate my skin with Working Hands. That stuff is a miracle. I've been a diesel mechanic for over 25 years, and every winter I fight cracked hands and cuticles. Working Hands has made the winter months much less painful. Keep up the great work!
I'm surprised you guys don't have an airbrush in your studio, and instead opted to use spray cans. Is there a reason for this? Also i love how adam took the time to explain some of the things he was doing. As someone who dabbles a bit in some modeling, mostly for warhammer stuff, it's a delight to watch.
He definitely has an airbrush (probably several by now) because he's used it in dozens of past builds, but I'd be curious to know why he opts for one over the other too
My God, Adam, this is just like watching the making of specials I was obsessed with as a kid. I often would watch those as much if not more than the films themselves. Watching Star Wars or The Dark Crystal or even the masterful work of O'Brien and Harryhausen showcased in behind the scenes specials was just a magnificent part of my childhood. As I am nearing 50 the artistry of film making has evolved faster than I myself have, so this kind of throwback is just glorious to watch. Thank you for this!
This serie is amazing and is among the best content the Tested team as uploaded since the start. I really love to see the team effort in this lovely project. Nice filming and editing as well :)
I just love this workshop. There is always something to spot in the background. Something from some facet of the nerdom world. Its like a treasure hunt going on in while the video is playing. Even when washing his hands at the end, boom, a random picture of the Zorg Zf-1. Just awesome.
MAN I've been loving this series just for watching it for what it is, but that little tip for how to hold a sanding stick was AWESOME. I've recently got into putting together and painting models, and sanding has never been fun for my hands. I am absolutely going to give that lever method a try asap. Makes me imagine there's a ton of other hobbyist makers who watch these videos and steal their own bits and pieces of process knowledge that they didn't think of on their own.
I love everything that Adam and Team share with us but I have to say that this is my favourite! I would love to see more of these as I find it fascinating. Great job everyone!!
"3/32 inch rod" and that's why I love SI units. :) It's so awesome to see how you guys and girls build this space ship. so much inspiration and motivation for my next build. THANK YOU!
After playing the game. Watching this series is even more fun because I regonize the small details they put in. Its wonderful work both by Bethesda and Adam and his team!
Adam Savage! I was a huge fan of yours when I was a kid! I love your craftsmanship and your enthusiasm. It's really great seeing you work with everyone on this project. Great work!!!
I love that Adam can, and does, whip out his one-of-a-kind movie/series props. And that so many of them aren't the obvious items, like hero swords or special outfits. A forward turret from the Mjolnir?! I love this guy. Thanks for the clearest and most hi-def Wilhelm experience I think I've ever had.
Sponsored content from various channels on TH-cam is generally tolerated; we understand that it can sometimes be a necessary evil. However, this is a great example of how you partner correctly. This slots wonderfully into all things Tested and Adam, and puts on display a part of Adam's repertoire that we rarely get to see; 90's Movie Model Maker Adam. It also gives him the perfect platform to impart some of that knowledge onto others; both the makers around him and us as the audience. Kudo's to the Tested team (I suspect a lot goes to Kristen!) for nailing this one down. It's excellent stuff!
Love this series and seeing the collective enthusiasm. It's been many years since I've dipped my toes into modeling but something I've tried in the past to help lessen random overspray was the use of masking fluid, commonly known as liquid latex. Apply a light coat to any irregular surface that may be a pain to mask out with tape, then tape over it. When you remove the tape the latex will usually, but not always, pull off with your masking. Any left over masking fluid can easily be rubbed off with your finger or the eraser of your favorite pencil.
This is a perfect smash of all my interests. Gaming, modelmaking, creativity, and machines. Also seeing Adam interact with such professionalism with other really talented people. Favorite series by far. Thank you Tested for this. Would be so awesome if Todd Howard made an appearance!
These big multi-part series builds involving everybody are my absolute favorite.... And honestly, this is my favorite build so far (sorry Dr. Jones diary. I promise I still love you).
I bought the game because of this series, and I am pumped. If the game has half the heart you guys are putting into building this model, than I believe it will be money well spent. I hope there is more collaboration between you guys in the future.
@tested PLEASE make vlogging work you do for your clients a regular thing! I feel like this series shows Adam and crew truly in their element and thriving. And I'm sure most would agree that we want more! :)
Every video is amazing on its own, if this were just something the Tested team were doing it would be incredible. But the way this gets me hyped for Starfield takes it all to the next level. Thank you guys for this partnership. Incredible work, incredible videos, can't wait to see the final 2 episodes!
You guys should continue this series on the most iconic spaceships in scifi films and re-create shots just like they did back in the 80's. I would watch this series forever.
Please can you do more of these, I'd love for this to be a series that continues with different IPs, models, whatever - I'll take whatever you can give! Also love the spray adhesive texture - that's a great tip! 🙌
I love watching this particular series. I build small models of narrow gauge locomotives (4mm scale on 9mm gauge track). Like this they are 3D printed and have micro LEDs for lightning and have tiny DCC decoders. I also build buildings. Its great seeing all the the same materials being used. Styrene sheet and rods, brass wire and tubes, and so on. Great build...
Man. You always enjoy what you're doing on this channel, but this.... This team working on a massive project with all it's layers and details. You are glowing in these episodes. Let's do more like this. Even if it's just one big project a year. Loving this!!
Can’t wait for the next Video… lol Savage is a Genius for making this into a series and the Gaming Studio is a Genius for contracting with him to make this Model… Savage is one of the best in his felid because he is always pushing to learn more and is never complacent…
30:53 I paused and just looked at that complex mass in front of Adam and realized this build would never have been possible without 3D printing. What an amazing technology, just makes awesome stuff like this possible.
Oh, it could have been done, but the sheer number of hours required would be so cost prohibitive that only the biggest big budget movies would have even begun to consider it.
@@Wyrnikh You're right, I should have said prohibitively difficult, not impossible. It's crazy to me how versatile 3D printing is. People are still coming up with uses for it too, it's really exciting.
@@tested it’s a part of the film industry I’ve always wanted to be a part of, but unfortunately where I live there really isn’t much opportunity. I am however going to be working on (and acting in) a horror short film here soon as a bit of a side gig, so that’ll be fun.
I think this video is a really interesting look at what good creative leadership looks like. Adam is enthusiastically saying yes to his team and their ideas early and often, and just using his experience, eye, and preferences to bring things into focus across a large team. The trust and encouragement seem so important to the process and his enthusiasm for people's work must feel validating in a way that is absent from a lot of work. He has been an important figure to me across lots of different chunks of my life, but as a person considering the possibility of becoming a leader in my workspace I think there is a lot of good to take away from this. Tested is a cool ideas lab, and those need the energy of someone like Adam.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and passion of the Savage team members when they discuss the build.
This video series has gone on a Starfield Hype list of videos I "playlisted" and also triggers my ASMR each video... SO GOOD!!!
Thank you Adam and Tested team for making these and thank you Bethesda for partnering with Adam and the Tested team to make these videos possible! (love that Bethesda has been putting these videos up on their own Starfield page as well!)
I love this channel and all the things you do so much and your enthusiasm for every project you do is such a great feeling, keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for your kind words … and thanks for taking the time to tell us.
Sometimes I forget how talented and capable of a maker our bearded talking head is.
Doing dishes is actually my stress relief for those particularly bad days.
It allows me to zone out and detach from the grind of the work day.
With the ships in game being totally modular i think differences in their paint choices for each module of ship would give the feel that each module was added, or from a different manufacturer, time period, company, or even planet. The one thing people will be doing in game is changing and rebuilding their ships.
Early release of the game at 10am Australian Eastern Time, I've preloaded the game and day one update ready to go! I can't bloody wait!!
To watch someone who is full of passion and excitement for their craft is a joy , even if the thing they are doing is not in your usual circle of interests.
Two videos about Starfield in 5 min.
Thank you!
I love how Adam talks to and interacts with him team. Seems like a fantastic guy to work for.
Love the series. I already have my Starfield game downloaded and ready for day 1 access.
Make sure you've got the update!
Same
This is by far my favourite Tested series to date, absolutely fantastic!
Gorgeous! It's a beautiful ship - reminds me of a lot of a bunch of predecessors - the drop ship from Aliens, Serenity, the Earth 1999 transport...
Star bug from Red Dwarf comes to mind as well.
You mean the Space 1999 Eagle transport?
This is the correct way to do advertising in the modern era. Not by forcing people to watch commercials.
So true. And makes the virtual ships so much more real! Itching to play!
This serie is amazing and is among the best content the Tested team as uploaded since the start. I really love to see the team effort in this lovely project. Nice filming and editing as well :)
Love the design of the ship 👍😍
Thank you for your hard work! Love to see creativity and joy out of this amazing partnership.
I wish i could build stuff in my garage this is too cool.
I just love this workshop. There is always something to spot in the background. Something from some facet of the nerdom world. Its like a treasure hunt going on in while the video is playing. Even when washing his hands at the end, boom, a random picture of the Zorg Zf-1. Just awesome.
This series is so good, I don't think I've ever been this hyped for anything on TH-cam. Every new episode is a must-immediately-watch
I love seeing Adam going back to his roots.
I love everything that Adam and Team share with us but I have to say that this is my favourite! I would love to see more of these as I find it fascinating. Great job everyone!!
"3/32 inch rod" and that's why I love SI units. :)
It's so awesome to see how you guys and girls build this space ship. so much inspiration and motivation for my next build.
This is the best series. Please more like this. I love the Razor Crest vid series too from Adam and team. Kudos to you all.
This is a perfect smash of all my interests. Gaming, modelmaking, creativity, and machines. Also seeing Adam interact with such professionalism with other really talented people. Favorite series by far. Thank you Tested for this. Would be so awesome if Todd Howard made an appearance!
Mel comes across as just absolutely awesome. Gorgeous and smart! Seems like a fun person to work with.
The spray glue effect. The getting his hands dirty is great. That reflects Adams work ethic and enthusiasm. I like it
This so far has been awesome, you have a great crew and I am so looking forward to the final model and how it looks during filming. Fascinating,
@tested PLEASE make vlogging work you do for your clients a regular thing! I feel like this series shows Adam and crew truly in their element and thriving. And I'm sure most would agree that we want more! :)
Nails are the hardest to clean when you are deep into the grease-type work. I love this series!
So so happy with this colab.
Everyone is so talented. I always feel like I'm watching a show rather than a TH-cam video.
Every video is amazing on its own, if this were just something the Tested team were doing it would be incredible. But the way this gets me hyped for Starfield takes it all to the next level.
Thank you guys for this partnership. Incredible work, incredible videos, can't wait to see the final 2 episodes!
So amazing watching this come together!
Adam and the team are awesome! I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to do something like this.
I love printing things just to ad details after, it just makes it look so much better in the end.
What a treat these build videos are. Outstanding work, thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you so much!
Great creative job. I cant wait to see for the ready ship model.
And i can imagine, to work like this.
This is my favourite current Tested series. Love watching the process and taking away tips and tricks for my own builds! Keep it coming!
I would watch this channel just for this type of content. This ship is gonna look so good, can't wait to see it finished.
Thank you to all of the Tested team for these videos I personally have loved the hell out of them😂😂
Can’t wait for the next Video… lol Savage is a Genius for making this into a series and the Gaming Studio is a Genius for contracting with him to make this Model… Savage is one of the best in his felid because he is always pushing to learn more and is never complacent…
This series has been a treat for me. As an animation/game development major it's always a treat to see film-grade props being developed.
So glad!
I'm freaking loving these videos! Watching this whole thing come together is super satisfying!
Ngl, after watching this series and getting all hyped for the game, I just got chills walking up to the ship for the first time, haha. I feel a whole different appreciation for it. You guys are doing a stellar job, I must say.
Releasing this series part by part until the final release of the game is brilliant marketing. I was already sold but watching them build this ship so meticulously makes me want to get my hands on the game even more.
These long-form videos following the entire process is awesome!
I frigging love this series!
I'm really enjoying this series! Following the growth of this model and everyone's different contributions to it is really interesting
