  • The artisan, Uncle Koh, began his stint as a pastry apprentice at 12 years old. Now at the age of 76, he is a master of his trade who still handmakes most of the pastries sold in his shop.
For only once a year, Uncle Koh bakes the traditional Teochew-style mooncakes. His bakery greets customers with bright red boxes that spell of festivals. There are many varieties to choose from - the fermented beancurd mooncake, Teochew La Ko, and Lao Beng, just to mention a few less common ones.
It's a one-man show here! It's amazing that Uncle Koh does everything all on his own - from making to selling mooncakes.

Argghhh old man got a lot of power kneading that dough. I would just get a mixer to do the work. I find the dough a little dryer than I would like it to be and its so thick too but I guess everyone has their own taste rite. :D

Uncle Koh is the last of Sze Thye that produced value for money traditional mooncakes in town. Please support him for other pastries too in the shop.

The shop is not convenient as it just stuck in a corner of beach road. Do drop by to take a look of teochew traditional pastries shop.

I see you uploaded this video in early September. Was it during the Mid-Autumn festival, when mooncakes are traditionally sold?
Being a regular to Bangkok, I grew to love mooncakes, sold throughout the year in Chinese bakeries in Yaowarat, Chinatown. However, when I went around Chinatown in Singapore, asking for mooncakes in April, they thought I was crazy. The same happened in Macau too, in June.
So here's the million-dollar question: are mooncakes available in this bakery all year round? If so, I will certainly visit it the next time I am in Singapore.

Yes, we record heritage of food culture of Singapore. Mid-autumn festival is one of the festival we would feature its relevant food/snack! Thanks for the comments.
