    Hi I have a couple questions. So can you audition for Julliard at any age like if you’re a 12 year old can you audition and if you do, do you just go school there now or something? My second question: Is the Julliard acting program mainly just about theatre or do you learn about Acting in screen films and acting in TV shows/movies because I just want to act in shows & movies, not really theatre?

    Hello, I had a question. I am 21, and I have done some college before but nothing to do with acting. I don’t have any sort of acting experience. I was wondering how much time do you think I should spend getting training and what not in order to then have a good shot at getting into Juilliard. Would it be enough to if I started now and applied this fall to hopefully get in for the 2025 school year? Or is that too short notice? Thank you

    • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can get into top drama schools with no experience. That being said, you should do everything you can to grow as much as possible between now and the audition. That means align with mentors you trust and are inspired by, dive into the craft and take advantage of opportunities to learn! If drama school in Fall 2025 is what you want, you can have it. My advice is don’t hold back, it starts now! If you’d like to get a head start on discussing schools and monologues, I’d love to hear your story and provide guidance on your best next steps. • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I explored many choices related to my entire instrument. There's no formula or shortcut about "how much to move" or "how much to emote." Your job is to bring truth to the imaginary circumstances and tell the most interesting story possible. That's only possible when you come into every rehearsal, coaching session, and audition with a sense of play and a willingness to work. If you have a strong PROCESS, you will DISCOVER the optimal amount of body language your piece requires and you should trust that. Good question! Are you planning on auditioning for drama school?

    Hello, I have a question. How do you get scholarships for Juilliard? Cause even if I ever got in (which would be really hard as well) I'd have to pay the tuiton since it's a private school, and it's really really expensive, so is there a way to get a scholarship?

    • @convergenttheatreco
      @convergenttheatreco 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes Juilliard offers scholarships to students it accepts. So do other top schools. It, of course, varies based on many things including artistic merit, financial need and more. It’s good that your aware of the impact of tuition, but to be honest, I would apply regardless. If you get accepted to a top drama school that only accepts 18 students a year, that means they want you!! If you have concerns about finances, they will provide the resources that help you accept the offer!

      @@convergenttheatreco Thank you for your help. One more thing, are all auditions face to face? Because, you see, I live in Argentina so there's like absolutely no way I could have that kind of audition. And if not, how do I apply for it? Is there like a website that tells me when they're holding auditions or something? I'm totally aware that there's no way for me to get into that kind of school, but at least to know and maybe even try, just because I could say that "I had a Juilliard application", or perhaps (in a million years) maybe even get in, haha. And no, I'm not a pesimist, it's just that I have no idea how I would even do it or if I would be skilled enough, so I think that I'm more of a realist but still a daydream, haha!

      If you love to act. I encourage you to dive into the craft, spend time growing as an actor, and DEFINITELY apply to drama school (including Juilliard and others). Each school’s website has Audition Requirements. If the school is outside your country, you want to look where it says “International Students.” Expect to send in a prescreen as part of your application. The thing is I am from india and do you think that will affect my chances of getting selected.
    I have combed the internet but i cant find how i can apply and audition as an international student I obviously cant go there in person to audition and i want to ask if i can send them video ?
    also the website says that SATs and GPA is not required but is it applicable to international students as well?
    do i have to write TOEFL exam?
    i reallly hope you guys answer these questions

    • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sisira, yes you can apply to drama schools (including Juilliard) as an international student and get accepted! Typically, audition requirements for international students are found on the same page as audition requirements for domestic students. Here's the Juilliard page for example - www.juilliard.edu/arm/drama/college/acting/bachelor-fine-arts. If you have questions beyond what's on the audition requirements page, I recommend you call the Admissions Office. They are the resource you want to use to will answer application questions. As far as video...most schools require a prescreen be sent in. If you pass the prescreen, they will invite you to a live audition (except this year with covid where everything's over Zoom), but if you can't make the live audition for some reason you would have to communicate that with the school and see if there's anything they can do. But usually an in-person audition is required to get accepted to a school, so start saving for the trip! Lastly, as far as SAT/GPA and TOEFL, go with what the website says. Again, call or email the Admissions Office. If English is not your first language, you will likely be required to pass the TOEFL exam. Studying at drama school in America requires complete fluency with the English language. Hope that helps! And make sure to spend this next year growing as an artist and gaining as much as experience as you can!

      I’ve supported myself in a lot of ways. Artistic projects, education projects, corporate projects, and more, all of which I’m doing right now. But the degree didn’t make me the money. You should know…Career success is much more about your personal philosophy than your degree. You can see this from the stories of successful people everywhere - they have a WIDE range of backgrounds and education. I’ve always brought my full self - including my unique Juilliard training - to various opportunities I’ve been interested in.
      To be clear, these schools do not provide career success, they provide artistic training. How you use that training is what shapes your career, and every career is unique to the individual. I will never know what gave me bonus points in the eyes of the school, but as an actor you want to be sensitive to your imagination. So when anyone offers you an adjustment (like Juilliard offered me the graveyard adjustment), you should have the ability to really go there imaginatively and allow whatever comes up to come up. Does that make sense?

    Should i write my own monologue for the audition?

    • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Nour, my recommendation is no. Drama schools will definitely want to see how you handle scenes/moments written by others. Some schools even specifically request that you do not bring in material you wrote. However, if you’re inspired to write something and you want to work on it and the school allows it, why not? The bottom line is what the school require and you’re allowed to audition within that framework! If you want to talk further about this, email me. Anthony@howtogetintodramaschool.com

    did you have to actually go to the school for the audition?

    • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kristopher, the school holds auditions in 3 cities. So you can audition at the school in NY, or you can audition in Chicago, or San Francisco. Whatever works best for you. I auditioned in San Francisco because that worked best with my audition schedule. I didn't think much more about it. Hope that helps! Are you thinking about auditioning? Email me, I'd love to hear your story! anthony@howtogetintodramaschool.com

    Does grades effect your chance of getting in?

    • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RTS. Official - If you have to submit grades as part of your application, then yes schools do take a look at them. But each school is different in how much they care about grades. I obviously can’t answer and would recommend you call each school you’re applying to get the perspective of that particular school. In general, universities (like University of Minnesota Guthrie program and Boston University) care more about grades than private schools (Juilliard, CalArts etc)

    If i sing good are there more possibilities to get in?

    • @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool
      @HowToGetIntoDramaSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Margot angulo Yes if you’re auditioning for a musical theatre program. Not so much if you’re auditioning for an acting program. For acting programs, it matters less about how “good” you sing and more about your ability to tell a story and commit through song.
