Every time when I listen to that song I've got tears in my eyes. I am sorry Derek that you do not understand Polish but the lyrics are timeless and still ... actual. Czesław Niemen is one of the greatest ICONS of Polish Music. Please, believe me, if not the Iron Curtain, the charts would've looked totally different worldwide. I am pretty sure that Czesław Niemen would be many many many times on the top of them. Thank you for your reaction.

I don't speak polish and I don't know this singer but his voice...there IS something. His voice reminds me Janis joplin's voice.
This song was first time public presented on Opole Festiwal 25.06.1967, a week after Janis Joplin on Monterey Festival.
This polish song from 1972 is much, much better - th-cam.com/video/A41PF4lUkrg/w-d-xo.html

Omg Polish song here? ☺️ Thats the honor 👍 thats very old but powerfull song
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Poles love this song for beautiful words. Translate the lyrics of the song and you will understand why we love it so much.
From what my father told me, the first recording of this song was at a live music festival, and the mic was constantly peaking there because literally no one expected him to sing like that (the audio engineers included) At that time, he was just a random dude that barely anyone knew, so when he just bolted with such a powerful and amazing voice, everyone was stunned, to the point that the audio team didn't even react for the full performance to change the settings.
Czeslav Niemen is the author of the lyrics, the composer of the music and he is also the singer himself performing this song. It was presented and performed in 1967 at the Music Festival in Sopot / Poland. In 1962 the Cuban Crisis showed for the first time that humanity reached the level of destroying a whole world, with one weapon (nuclear). Czeslaw Niemen died in 2004 in Warsaw for stomach cancer after fighting the disease for decades.
Here is the link u can watch him singing the song at the festival in 1967 (he wears stylised as old traditional Polish peasant clothes as a symbolic act). Remember it was an act of bravery as he lived and sang in cold-war times and it happened in communistic Poland....

autorem tekstu jest Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz - polski poeta i pisarz
Ważne jest przesłanie w tej piosence!!!!
In answering your question - yes, he played multiple instruments. He was also a composer, producer, poet as well as a talented painter and sculptor. Dabbled with carpentry at home. Great personality and a genius. I not only had been to many of his concerts in Poland but was lucky enough to meet him in person backstage on a few occasions and shook his hand. Exceptional person indeed. He was very humble. Glory to Czeslaw Niemen! RIP.

Lyrics:
Oh, strange is this world
Well, still it seems
There's so far so much evil
And strange it is that since long ago
Man despises man.
Oh, strange this world
Of human affairs
Sometimes I'm ashamed to be in it
Oh, so oftena man can kill
With a bad word or still a knife.
But most people are of good will
I - thanks to them - believe
That this world should never, never die
And now, the time has come
The final time for hatred, for hatred
To destroy itself.
Thanks !

Djenkoje!
To jest niestety źle przetłumaczone.
His voice and music are amazing, but another value is the message. If you don't know the lyrics, you're missing out on 99% of this fantastic song. Everyone !!! - you have to read a lyrics !!!!
Nasz kochany Czesław Niemen, uwielbiam tą piosenke
His voice... incredible!
He's one of our Polish legends. Great compositions and execution! A true artistry!
Strange is this world. As current today as it was in 1967. 😥
Thanks for this reaction, it's is realy nice for polish people to see someone abroud appreciate out polish legend, Czesław Niemen.
Czesław Niemien to nasza gwiazda, pochodzi z Polski!!! :)
To ponadczasowa muzyka
His voice its beauty but very most importatnt to polish ppl its text this song and after 40 years old all the time its actuality i live wuth this
Zabrze pozdrawia 😊
Dziwny jest ten świat ("Strange is this World") is Czesław Niemen's first solo album, released in 1967. At 20 December 1968, as first album in Poland, "Dziwny jest ten świat" was awarded with Golden record (160 000 copies sold).
You probably translated it, found the text, However, you must remember one thing if you are interested in music, it was our greatest voice of POLAND, there will never be another like him, his voice and song lyrics were the greatest and touched our hearts. No one could compare with him, even at that time, no Russian or anyone from any other country, even to this day, none of the modern singers has or will have such a voice, pure and wonderful, if you really know how to sing and not scream like some singers do nowadays.
I ❤️Czesław Niemen,
F*ckin' good rockman. Authentic and unspoiled by money and cheap popularity. Of course we all love Bob Marley and Bruce Spreengstin but Czesiek was the best!
It’s so great that you had an opportunity to hear it, Poland has a plethora of great songs in store that no one abroad has heard and sadly, probably never will
If you want to react to more Czesław Niemen, I recommend his track 'Sen o Warszawie' (A Dream about Warsaw)
I'm so so glad, that you finally reached to this one. I was so excited waiting for you to react to this song 😁 I hope that you'll react to and also like other Polish stuff that I prepared for you 😅😁🥰
Czesław Niemen 'Wspomnienie". I love this song.
Nice discovery.
A good 60's ballad, soul/blues.
Interesting voice.
You should also listen to "Jaskółka uwięziona("Swallow trapped")" of Stan Borys. It't the same level as "Dziwny jest ten świat "- an emotional, strong voice, graphic and such a poetic, moving lyrics, immortality...You'll be impressed...
yeah, It's much less known but great aswell
I grew up listening to this song 🤩🤗
That song reminded me of a song James Brown-It's a men's men's men's world
La canzone fantasia Bello testo magico cantante polacca grande genio voce angelica bravi Czesław Niemen
Poles have artistic souls ❤️🇵🇱 It is worth listening to the lyrics of non-mainstream songs of Polish Underground music. Maybe we seem cold to Westerners. sad. closed. backward and, unfortunately, in your imagination we are only poor, drunks, thieves and racists. But to get to know who we really are, we need to get to know our culture and history through art in which we open our hearts, such as the beautiful music we call sung poetry. Greetings from the beautiful city of Wrocław 🇵🇱❤️
Goosebumps, grew up with this song! Great memories!
Meraviglioso cantante polacca Czesław Niemen Dziwny jest ten świat canzone fantastica bel testo unicata voce grande leggenda polacca.
If you're looking for other polish singers from this time, I advise you to go to listen these following artists : Marek Grechuta, Zbigniew Wodecki or Magda Umer. They really have a lot of great songs !
Yes, he played the piano, and organ and guitar, composed all his songs, wrote lyrics and sang in 7 languages in different styles.
He even designed covers of his albums. He passed away 20 years ago. He also performed with Silesian group SBB
Here he is in English in a more progressive style th-cam.com/video/2N8zv9tANSw/w-d-xo.html
He was also quite a romantic and sang a lot of poetry like this love song th-cam.com/video/7mVggh9IMyQ/w-d-xo.html
Piosenka powinna otrzymać ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love it❤
This song is really a testimony of freedom because of the iron curtain times unfortunately he did the song to show people that there are good people in the world that will make things happen and evil will not prevail gave people hope and basically was like a diss to Soviet Union 😂
Polecam też innych polskich muzyków, i zespoły. Ten utwór został napisany w 1982 roku, gdy w Polsce panował stan wojenny. Grupa "Lombard" , z wokalistką Małgorzatą Ostrowska. Pozdrawiam z Polski.

Masz polską duszę, brawo 🥃
Adding my translation (sadly not poetic enough):
Strange is this world,
still full of
so much evil.
And strange is that
for so many years
one human despises another.
Strange is this world
the world of human affairs;
Sometimes just shameful to admit.
Still how often is that
somebody with a bad word
kills as if with a knife.
But there are more good people
and I strongly believe that
this world
will never die thanks to them.
No! No! No!
It's about time,
the high time,
to destroy hatred in ourselves.
This song immediately makes me think of Zegarmistrz światła (Watchmaker of light) in the classic but not in the "we're all drunkingly singing after a country wedding" way category lol It's probably because of the philosophical tone. I'd recommend it (but not the official English translation which I personally find abysmal.)
he sings this song in English as well
Lirycs: Czesław Niemen music: Czesław Niemen performing: Czesław Niemen

Dereck you can find english in internet....what one person can do to another with Words ...somebody Say to you Words wich you can kill !!???You dont understend that????This is life and about that is song....Greethings from Poland
Niemen was born in Belarus, not far from Ukraine. He fled Soviet Union at 19.
Imagine being an immigrant in 1960s poland. That Niemen.
Remember, this song was created during the height of the Cold War and the Vietnam War, a time when people were killed simply for holding different viewpoints. The situation remains similar today. The song reflects the unsettling reality of a world where one person despises another.
Dziekuje
Czesław Niemen - Dziwny jest ten świat (Sopot 1967) - watch this.
You can compare the melody to James Brown - "This is a man's world"...
This song was made in 1967. There was comunist regime in Poland at that time and this song was an anti war statement. Polish artists had very limiter resorces at that time.

Another Polish artist suggestion: Basia.

Niemen was born on terytory of POLAND-on this time. Not soviet Union.History😊
This voice is not "good", this voice is amazing. And the composition too. Unfortunately, a Polish-speaking singer has nothing to look for in the world.
Do you know what he is singing ? i think that you have no idea about the lyric if you know you will understand the meaning
Radze przetlumaczyc slowa - warto
Its looks like "monky react to fire"
Żeby słuchać tę piosenkę trzeba rozumieć tekst, to nie rozrywka tylko czas do refleksji i przemyśleń. Powaga, zaduma ważne tematy.
Nie udawaj, że słuchasz tego pierwszy raz.
1967
Is this a cover version of James Brown's "It's Man's Man's World" ?
No!
not even close

Comnpare this song to James Browns "it's a man's world". I believe that Niemen was inspired mainly by this record :)
