The context of this old song, from the 1960s, is completely different than the songs in Western countries in these years. Because in Poland these were really hard times of communism, where people, like for instance in December 1970, were even murdered at the streets by communists sending army and tanks to shoot to the civilians. So without knowing the context, it cannot be really understood.

Before 1990 in Poland we had only one or two government own record companies . So the singers were on their mercy. Companies did not hurry. Their were not very professional. And the equipment they possesed was outdated. And the norm was that , the first record of the song was on the government own radio station , and after some time , 6mo , 1 , 2 or 3 years was the song done by a record company. Very nice of you to choose the song. It is practically impossible for you to understand the context of the song because it was written in a different era. The translation is not necessarily as impressive as the song really sounds to your fellow countrymen. Czeslaw was a musical genius and he knew very well back then that the music fits the text perfectly.

Czesław Niemen -" Bema pamięci żałobny rapsod" it has "music visualisation"; music geaves a sound effect to the lirics. Józef Zachariasz Bem (born March 14, 1794 in Tarnów in the Habsburg Monarchy, died December 10, 1850 in Aleppo in the Ottoman Empire) - Polish general, strategist, writer, military engineer, artilleryman, creator of the first rocket troops in the Polish army, commander artillery active during the November Uprising, political activist of the Great Emigration, founder of two emigre organizations: the Historical and Literary Society and the Polish Polytechnic Society in Paris (the first Polish engineering society in the history), participant of the Spring of Nations, actual but informal commander of the Third Vienna Revolution (Wiener Oktoberrevolution ) 1848, commander-in-chief of the Hungarian uprising of 1848-1849 (from August 1849), general of the army of the Ottoman Empire. It's hard to understand Poles because you have to know their history. We are specific but it's our history that has shaped us this way. watch the film IPNtv: The Unconquered
The lyrics are completely NOT the same as in "This is a man's world" ;) "TIAMW" is about the world being ruled by males, masculinity and how in the end it still would be nothing without a woman's touch. "Dziwny jest ten swiat" is about the world being ruled by the evil and the humans harming one another, but how the author still believes that there is more good people than bad and that thanks to them this world will not go to waste. :)
Listening to the song without knowing the words takes away 50% of the way you should feel it. Also you cannot expect super productions from behind the red iron curtain...
Hi Wes ! I recommend you listen to Boguslaw Mec song Jej portret. If it was an English song, it would have an international career. The melody is so lyrical, and the lyrics are just great, but hey, it's in Polish, which is a major obstacle! Thanks for loving my home country. Although I am living in another country now, my heart is still there. All the best to you!
Niemen wrote this piece while living in Wroclaw, Poland which was till WW2 Breslau, part of the German Empire. A stunning, beautiful City but in 1967 it still was mostly ruins as the priority was to reconstruct Warsaw and original Polish Cities. The conquered Cities of todays West Poland had to wait a long time to be restored to its full beauty. I think Czesław Niemen while walking the destroyed streets of Wroclaw/Breslau might have been influenced by its tragic history.
The English translation allthough accurate doesn't do justice to the song beginning with the title, 'Strange is the World', it sounds awful in English as a title of a song, it just doesn't sound right to English or American ear, I've never heard an English song with such a weird title. 'Dziwny jest ten świat' is one of those songs you must understand Polish very well to fully appreciate.
Yes there are 2 ways to translate a song : 1? You try to do word for word 2. You try to find words that have the best context to what the author wanted to say So I would say : Dziwny jest ten świat Gdzie jeszcze wciąż Mieści się wiele zła I dziwne jest to Że od tylu lat Człowiekiem gardzi człowiek Dziwny ten świat Świat ludzkich spraw Czasem, aż wstyd przyznać się A jednak często jest Że ktoś słowem złym Zabija tak, jak nożem Lecz ludzi dobrej woli jest więcej I mocno wierzę w to Że ten świat Nie zginie nigdy dzięki nim Nie! Nie! Nie! Nie! Nadszedł już czas Najwyższy czas Nienawiść zniszczyć w sobie Odd is this world Still full of evil And odd is that People are still against people Ignoring, despising Odd is this world Our human world Sometimes I feel ashamed That one spoken word Can cut like a knife So deep But there still people of good will And I believe! I really believe! The world is not forsaken yet! It's not! It's not! The time is now To fight the hate! To kill it from within Something like that is more accurate I think to the poetical lyrics
@@bobeczek01 I'm sorry to say but 'Odd is this world' sounds even worse then 'Strange is the World'. Imagine Taylor Swift singing odd or strange is the world. It just doesn't sound right musically in English. The problem is that people try to find the best words, which is wrong, what you need to do is translate emotion and meaning. To make my point translate any ABBA song into Polish, you'll understand what the song is all about but if you imagine any Polish singer singing it, it won't sound right to the Polish ear.
This recording is from the live concert in Opole festival 1967 that's why it sounds like this. Like people said in comments, there was soviet occupation in Poland during that time so equipment was not the best considering even that period.
in fact, this song was a polish version of James Brown "Its a mans world". In fact, the american music was kinda banned in communist block, so Polish performers were trying to bring those songs somehow "under the radar" as their own compositions... Its one of many western songs that sneaked into Poland this way
You are right about sound in this version. I dont really have ear to that. But i think that version tittled "Czesław Niemen, Akwarele - Dziwny Jest Ten Świat (HQ)" sounds better.
th-cam.com/video/dsgcE1wsGP0/w-d-xo.html Hi, here is a HQ Stereo recording of "Dziwny Jest Ten Świat" made in 1979 in Opole, Poland. This is the song sung by Czesław Niemen.
I’m half Polish/half British. Born and raised up in Sweden, though so definitely I’m influenced by not so different cultures, yet still varying in so many ways. It’s my mum’s fave Polish song. I do love it, to put it straight. Since my mum has been telling me so many stories about people, atmosphere in Poland at that time. She also explained a lot about circumstances in which it was made and meaning of this masterpiece for Poles. For I’m trilingual so it’s pretty obvious I think Polish-like listening to it and it …kinda stroke me as you said it’d be perfect as a car or perfume advertising. No offence but thought like; what the heck. A lawdy mama, ‘Dziwny jest ten świat’ is an ‚anthem’ and linking it to any commercial would never cross my mind. But then I shifted to English, trying to loose this emotional connection with this track and even though it seems weird to myself I hear ‘ya. When you don’t think of its background nor consider the lyrics it has this positive hype or should I rather say vibe of an epic commercial ✌️😄🇵🇱🇸🇪🇬🇧
th-cam.com/video/dFpcbnP50CU/w-d-xo.html Hi, here is a recording of "Dziwny Jest Ten Świat" made in 1990 in Sopot. This is the song sung by Czesław Niemen
Hi. This is not Polish rock. It's the big beat era, 1967. In this song, the lyrics are important. Here is the translation of the song: Strange is this world, Where there's still so much evil. And strange it is, That for so many years, Man despises man. Strange is this world, The world of human affairs, Sometimes it's even shameful to admit. Yet often it happens, That someone with a cruel word, Kills just like with a knife. But there are more people of good will, And I strongly believe in this, That this world Will never perish thanks to them. No! No! No! No! The time has come, The highest time, To destroy hatred within ourselves. But there are more people of good will, And I strongly believe in this, That this world Will never perish thanks to them. No! No! No! No! The time has come, The highest time, To destroy hatred within ourselves. Nice day! Ux6six
Hello, I think that choosing only music in the case of this song is a mistake... because it is impossible to understand what you are listening to without understanding the words. In the case of this song, the performance is wonderful, but the message is the most important. Regards
I mean... No wonder you don't like the mixing, the song was recorded in the 60's with limited technology XD Even still, you'd be pleased to hear that there's an urban legend from the time that Niemen could walk into the studio and check the hardware calibration by hearing alone

It's hard to understand Poles because you have to know their history. We are specific but it's our history that has shaped us this way. watch the film IPNtv: The Unconquered
Podsiadlo "Nieznajomy" live ze Stadionu Narodowego ❤
It has vintage vibe because it an actual, genuine vintage song recorded almost 60 years ago 😁
Poland vois genius 💯‼️🇵🇱💪
this song was released in1967
You should check ,,Budka Suflera - Jest taki samotny dom" or if you'd like a little "lighter" song try ,,Lady Punk - Zamki na piasku".
Listen to “Zegarmistrz Światła Purpurowy” by Tadeusz Woźniak.
Woźniak died recently, RIP
The lyrics are completely NOT the same as in "This is a man's world" ;) "TIAMW" is about the world being ruled by males, masculinity and how in the end it still would be nothing without a woman's touch. "Dziwny jest ten swiat" is about the world being ruled by the evil and the humans harming one another, but how the author still believes that there is more good people than bad and that thanks to them this world will not go to waste. :)
This is the purpose to move the audience, the lyrics are so important! This is big beat music that`s why it`s so messy. I love it.
Następna, "Sen o Warszawie"
Która wersja? Są co najmniej 2, różnych zespołów ;)
You know what? Czesław Niemen has perfect hearing. Perfect hearing. This song IS perfect.
Absolutny klasyk. Thank you ❤
Niemen, song words....
Strange is this World, if it still has lots of Evil
And strange it is since many years ...
😋👍
Prosze posłuchać- Lubię wracać tam gdzie byłem i zacznij od Bacha Wodecki Zbigniew
1967 ❤ Great song, I love Czesław Niemen ❤
I think it’s time for „Granda” by Brodka 😊
Droga do gwiazd, i W kolorze krwi - Zdzislawy Sosnickiej
You should react to the performance of his daughter "Opole 2013 - Natalia Niemen. She sings the same song.
I suggest listening to some Lady Pank songs! Its an old rock polish band
Maybe Grzegorz Turnau - Cichosza
Kwiat Jabłoni - "Dziś późno pójdę spać"
Niemen to klasa w sama w sobie❤
Zbigniew Wodecki - Zacznij od Bacha
You try to find words that have the best context to what the author wanted to say
So I would say :
Dziwny jest ten świat
Gdzie jeszcze wciąż
Mieści się wiele zła
I dziwne jest to
Że od tylu lat
Człowiekiem gardzi człowiek
Dziwny ten świat
Świat ludzkich spraw
Czasem, aż wstyd przyznać się
A jednak często jest
Że ktoś słowem złym
Zabija tak, jak nożem
Lecz ludzi dobrej woli jest więcej
I mocno wierzę w to
Że ten świat
Nie zginie nigdy dzięki nim
Nie! Nie! Nie! Nie!
Nadszedł już czas
Najwyższy czas
Nienawiść zniszczyć w sobie
Odd is this world
Still full of evil
And odd is that
People are still against people
Ignoring, despising
Odd is this world
Our human world
Sometimes I feel ashamed
That one spoken word
Can cut like a knife
So deep
But there still people of good will
And I believe! I really believe!
The world is not forsaken yet!
It's not! It's not!
The time is now
To fight the hate!
To kill it from within
Something like that is more accurate I think to the poetical lyrics
Like people said in comments, there was soviet occupation in Poland during that time so equipment was not the best considering even that period.
this is very very good Polish song old time
Bro complains about the sound quality while this recording was recorded on outdated equipment even in those times.
❤❤❤
Stan Borys "Jaskółka uwięziona" - naprawdę utwór z przeslaniem
You should listen Ewa Demaryczk - Groszki i róże. Its very beautiful polish song. To this day, no one can sing it like Ewa.
He was a genius
I don’t think I can forgive him the talk about this classic best Polish song ever being suitable for some commercial shit. No way 😢
It is blended very well , the problem is you don't understand Polish language , it is very clear for us Polish speaking listeners .
Just FYI, the version you're reacting to is converted from the original first edition vinyl record.
Doceniam, że od razu połączyłeś kropki do It's a Man's Man's Man's World.
The US band Blood, Sweat and Tears wanted him to sing in the band
I like some asian songs as well, good work
You could also listen to “Winda do Nieba” by 2+1, or any piece by 2+1.
there was no stereo recordings in 1967 ;)
in fact, this song was a polish version of James Brown "Its a mans world". In fact, the american music was kinda banned in communist block, so Polish performers were trying to bring those songs somehow "under the radar" as their own compositions... Its one of many western songs that sneaked into Poland this way
My propositions:
Coma - Leszek Żukowski
Czesław Niemien - Wspomnienie
Sanah - Siebie zapytaj DSCVR at home
Sanah - Invisible dress DSCVR at home
If you are a pianist, listen to Niemen's "Bem's Funeral Rhapsody of Memory"
You are right about sound in this version. I dont really have ear to that. But i think that version tittled "Czesław Niemen, Akwarele - Dziwny Jest Ten Świat (HQ)" sounds better.
This is live from 1967. Pls, check the meaning of this song too
Karakowski spleen by Mannam is what I recommend
th-cam.com/video/dsgcE1wsGP0/w-d-xo.html Hi, here is a HQ Stereo recording of "Dziwny Jest Ten Świat" made in 1979 in Opole, Poland.
Here is the translation of the song:
Strange is this world,
Where there's still so much evil.
And strange it is,
That for so many years,
Man despises man.
Strange is this world,
The world of human affairs,
Sometimes it's even shameful to admit.
Yet often it happens,
That someone with a cruel word,
Kills just like with a knife.
But there are more people of good will,
And I strongly believe in this,
That this world
Will never perish thanks to them.
No! No! No! No!
The time has come,
The highest time,
To destroy hatred within ourselves.
But there are more people of good will,
And I strongly believe in this,
That this world
Will never perish thanks to them.
No! No! No! No!
The time has come,
The highest time,
To destroy hatred within ourselves.
Nice day!

Daria Zawiałów - Freddie, Szarówka, Winter is comming oraz Kaonashi i w ogóle ona ma super te utwory, sporo
Hello, I think that choosing only music in the case of this song is a mistake... because it is impossible to understand what you are listening to without understanding the words. In the case of this song, the performance is wonderful, but the message is the most important. Regards
I mean... No wonder you don't like the mixing, the song was recorded in the 60's with limited technology XD
Even still, you'd be pleased to hear that there's an urban legend from the time that Niemen could walk into the studio and check the hardware calibration by hearing alone
