For thruster clearance (with Build Info) you can do `ctrl-+` to toggle overlays, the first shows thruster damage zone and airtight faces. I never see it used in videos and it's very handy. You can also point a tool at a block and hit `shift-r` to lock the overlay on for that block. (point at air and `shift-r` to clear the lock)
For naming the new fighter, bullshark perhaps? Compact, tough and agressive, plus it fits the aquatic naming scheme. Looking forward to mass production! The monorail having issues is unfortunate, but rapid unscheduled disassembly is part of why we love space engineers, and it's fun seeing people work on new solutions to problems they weren't even supposed to have lol
Just finished rewatching The Martian with my father, and I'm glad to see my little trist with Mars is not over yet for tonight. You're my (second) favourite loner toughing it out on Mars.
Suggestion when building atmo fighter/gunships, Probably want the turret underneath not on top. Ground is down :) (also means you can armour up under to soak more return fire)
I think if you Right Click and drag the item into an inventory you should be able to select how many of an item you want to transfer. Keep up the good work!!
Great episode dude. It looks the Batteries/Armour blocks on the bottom are scrubbing against the side of the Blast Door blocks and taking damage when the Monorail crosses the track joins. You could try dropping the whole thing down using Half Armour/Half Beam/Half Scaffold blocks and place a set of tiny wheel directly underneath the chassis, so you can keep the whole thing level with the platform. Personally I'd try the Half Beams as they have a channel down the center. I'm not sure about block interactions, but I know player can easily slip into that gap so it might be more forgiving to the belly of your train. I've seen a few people doing Rail related stuff lately and I'm quite curious about trying it myself now.
Definitely got too close with my tolerances. I ended up replacing the 1x1s with 2x2 and using the half blocks. Working so far, should be a good next episode. I would love to see your take on a train!
20:43 Make the This Ramp (tm) on hinges and raise it up to form a railing when the train in not there. Maybe control it with sensors or do more elaborate system to see when the train is parked and it sends a broadcast to open the ramps and doors.
21:51 Make sure middle side-wheels are super soft on strength setting, to allow them enough stretch for front and back sides to keep tight! The middle is just for extra drive traction, not for staying on as much. 😱
17:45 Do you need a remote? If you just grouped the drive wheels / thrust, you could just put a button up/ down to change the override speed like a real train throttle. and sensor/ relay in bogies/ stops to sense stop and lower the speed (several timers staggered to smoothly decrease override to zero) at next stop. Then it will auto-stop, but you could set speed to go each time? 🤔 A console if you wanted to drive each time instead of automated stops. Reminds me of the Hanel train guys auto speed trains that what speeds for various locations/ turns, and that desert base that has a hanging auto tram as well as a ground auto train through the base city. 😃👍
The new fighter is speedy so maybe call it, the cheetah! Also, if you do another fighter, try for a railgun sniper so you can pick off the enemy turrets from beyond their range!
Worth noting, the vanilla spawns that are active like that regional HQ are associated with factions that have trade stations. So if you want to do any trading in the future make sure you pick a few factions whose planetary emplacements you don't loot! As far as I'm aware though, all the wrecks are owned by no one and are a free for all.
@EngineeredCoffee I know right? Why trade when you can steal? When I started playing the update I didn't think about it but by the time I actually got to space, everyone was an enemy XD
For the monorail, you could maybe try make the floor out of half blocks? maybe half a block clearance will be enough, and the doors would still line up
For the Lobster why not add that each time Ted changes and put the Grinder it automatically empty the Lobster storage and each time it put the welder to fill the storage with everything you need to build
I’ve never had luck with the 1x1 wheels when creating trains, I recommend you experiment with the 2x2 or 3x3. I know that it is possible to get one working with 1x1’s but wowee those wheels are janky
I think a cool aquatic name that would fit that fighter would be 'barracuda'? Or, if you want it to be less intimidating but still techncially a predator, how about "cod"? 😆
I think I've had a similar issue with MES where it would only spawn Trade Operators Coalition stations and nothing else. Also, in the past week on a modded game, without changing anything, and not having MES installed, ive been getting double or even triple the amount of vanilla encounters out of nowhere for some reason. Cargo ships crashing into the moon etc.
I don't recall what your suspension settings were, but perhaps make sure the suspension strength is turned up as well. You don't really want your suspension sagging. Also perhaps consider splitting your Mono-rail in two, have one Car/Engine on either end.
overall length of the monorail car looks fine to me, I think you might want 2x2 wheels for it at least, maybe 3x3s on the sides? Don't know for sure though, cuz I haven't ever built a rail in SE.
These first encounters you see at 4:30 are these mods or vanilla ? Cuz I never get any of these spawns in game, all I have is infinite empty planets with a couple of pirate only in space once in a while..
That is the vanilla encounter, I did edit the settings though to get a better spawn rate. This reddit thread was super helpful if you're on PC: www.reddit.com/r/spaceengineers/s/2QZCIykoX7
Shame for the monorail it was looking so promising. The fighter is pretty decent but your lift thrust are whats damaging your pad i think. 4k do be the killer of frames.
Question. How do you guys get the Store and contracts to work when starting a new game? I select the stars world and build my base, add a store and contracts thing and it's empty. What am I missing?
The store and contracts work at npc locations. Building your own doesn’t generate contracts. I think you could setup stuff, but have never done it. When you spawn, you should get a datapad with a gps to the nearest outpost.
No particular reason, except the battery is a big block that has a lot of mounting points. I may have ground them down on accident and dropped off sections more times than I'd like to admit.
If you click and drag with right click itl prompt you to pick how much of the stack to move, this lets you move 1 or whatever specific amount of soemthing. EDIT: also so you know, a PT assembler can A: only make PT stuff B: Panels are the only thing that can be made from raw resources with no PT scrap needed C: All the other PT commponnets can only be made if you have PT scrap (it also uses some toher stuff)
@@EngineeredCoffeethat is only possible within a plug in where you can press ALT to move around just one item. Tho, you would need to install and use se plugin loader. Probably not what you want 😉
@@EngineeredCoffee i honestly thought it defaulted to 1. ya i would agree its odd that we dont have a tool for that. I only just discovered double clicking moves whole stack regadless of size myself
You guys know by the time we get out to colonizing Mars etc. that AI corporate art is going to be a very common thing. EC is maintaining a sense of realism using it.
Well like I said on Discord. I view those station images as cheap decorative pictures from HomeGoods that just matched the room. If I were trying to sell merch or monetize off it, that is when I would commision an artist. I am not using AI to steal artists' jobs, just not making you all suffer throufh my lack of drawing abilities.
Oops all pirates mod will make the vanilla planet bases pirate instead of the trader npc factions. You can attack and loot without messing up npc trading.

I was not aware, thanks for the tip! I just recorded some stuff yesterday where I could have used that!

Good to see you've joined the dark side. Piracy!
Garrrr!

Definitely can't compete with Andy Weir! But thank you!
Suggestion when building atmo fighter/gunships, Probably want the turret underneath not on top. Ground is down :) (also means you can armour up under to soak more return fire)
I think for monorail you need just to go one block higher to give it enough clearence, or try to lift middle part on rotor displacment
I think if you Right Click and drag the item into an inventory you should be able to select how many of an item you want to transfer. Keep up the good work!!
Yeah, I just want a quick shortcut is all. I was doing the right click thing while talking about it.
@@EngineeredCoffee Whoops, that'll teach me to try multitasking

Please Dread, I would LOVE to see a "You Train" with legs and a SHIT TON of subgrid custom turrets. That would just be,,,, SO unbelieviably cool
20:43 Make the This Ramp (tm) on hinges and raise it up to form a railing when the train in not there. Maybe control it with sensors or do more elaborate system to see when the train is parked and it sends a broadcast to open the ramps and doors.
Dead engineers backpack is always worth a check, I feel like that spawn has prototech bits there...🤦♂️😅
I did check it, just a datapad. I cut the footage. Don't need me attempting to be a voice actor 😉
@@EngineeredCoffee lol fair one matey 😅

Good call!
That's a great looking little fighter. I'm sure you'll figure out something for the monorail.

Woohoo! Artsy fartsy stuff!
I.... MIGHT... Be tempted to doodle something... Might... 😋
Great video and I love the design of the new Fighter. Looking forward to it hitting the workshop :)

Maybe raise bogie ride height so slope ramps 'glide above' step-out, by adjusting strength/ height offset?
The new fighter is speedy so maybe call it, the cheetah! Also, if you do another fighter, try for a railgun sniper so you can pick off the enemy turrets from beyond their range!
For small grid I usually rebate the docking cameras by one block

I should probably be more precise in my plundering, but that loot though 😉
@EngineeredCoffee I know right? Why trade when you can steal? When I started playing the update I didn't think about it but by the time I actually got to space, everyone was an enemy XD
Another great video!
For a planet based fighter I think putting the turret on the bottom makes more sense... Just a thought
Hype and Yes!
For the monorail, you could maybe try make the floor out of half blocks? maybe half a block clearance will be enough, and the doors would still line up
Good idea!
3×3wheels on bottom to ride on and 1×1 wheels to keep u on the track it works how everyone I see doing it
For the monorail, maybe do 2 small wagon connected via a thied boggie, maybe it would be less violent on the turn
For the Lobster why not add that each time Ted changes and put the Grinder it automatically empty the Lobster storage and each time it put the welder to fill the storage with everything you need to build
That's a great idea!
there is a inset camera availiable what i use great ship fighter the attack was cool but your guns did seem to miss fire a bit

Agreed, I switched out for 2x2's, stay tuned for tomorrows episode!

So you can connect small connectors to large connectors
No, but in the upcoming update they are making a large grid block with a small connecter inset.
I'm anti-AI art too but fake-advertisements in a game is perfect for it, it's supposed to be peripheral fluff.
Shame for the monorail it was looking so promising. The fighter is pretty decent but your lift thrust are whats damaging your pad i think. 4k do be the killer of frames.
Yeah, 1440 but ultrawide. I think I may be able to salvage the monorail, just need more time.

Done, changed the billboard for next episode! Not sure why it shows the other name in TH-cam studio, and this one on actual TH-cam.
