As a young sailor in the early 70's I had the priviledge of seeing CVN 65 ,CGN 25 and CGN 9 all 3 were tide up at North Island Coronado It was a sight tobe hold I will never forget.
It does hold that historical significance value in 1st nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Preserve it, and you can scrap the subsequent ones as they come off line. Lets see what happens. Museum wise would involve substantial costs, if looking at the Iowa class museums challenges and various cost issues are anything to go by.
@@DJP-ph7yj It would be much greater costs involved, since it has nuclear reactors that need to be removed first, and the ship would need to be half dismantled to access them. The previous CV-6 Enterprise even with its 20 battle stars from WWII, couldn't be saved, due to lack of donation funding, and it didn't even have eight nuclear reactors to deal with. They should just tow CVN-65 out into deep water and scuttle her so she rests upright on the bottom. Better than the scrappers.
This CVN USS Enterprise should be a museum, not scrapped. They shamefully broke up the Big E, from WW2, CV-6 Enterprise, the US Navy most decorated ship from that war.
