- Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), hosts a burial at sea for Lt.j.g. Marc Rockwell-Pate while underway in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations, Sept. 30, 2024. Rockwell-Pate served aboard Ronald Reagan from 2006 to 2008 first as a Journalist, before merging rates to Mass Communication Specialist, and then commissioning as a Public Affairs Officer in 2015. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

I was honored to work with Marc as his supervisor aboard USS Ronald Reagan. When he first considered pursuing a commission, I was the first he reached out to for an endorsement which I was more than happy to give and followed his career as it progressed. RIP Shipmate.
What happened to him?
@@stilliraise9201 He died during a mountain climb
Thank you for your service
@@usnchief1339I read that he had went missing on his hike and sadly was found dead but never read anymore , did he have a heart attack or something?
Such a healthy person and worked in a dangerous job , kind of feels unfair that he’s taken that way. I’m glad his wife was allowed to be there as apparently even for a burial at sea family aren’t allowed on the boat but I suppose maybe because she is also in the navy.
So sad losing someone so young really . Rest easy soldier
That is a sad moment for someone who gave the ultimate sacrifice
As a U.S. citizen, please accept my condolences to Marc's wife, family, and friends. I am so grateful for his service.
As a 20 year US. Navy Vet, RIP Marc, WE NOW HAVE THE WATCH.
My husband served 31 years as a Chief Air Traffic Controller with the US Navy. He passed 4 years ago, fortunately because of his military record, he was able to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. The service that he received was a wonderful honor for the life he chose in serving our Country. What a wonderful service this man also received at sea.
I am honored and humbled getting to watch this video. My sincere condolences to Lt.j.g Rockwell-Pate's wife and family.
Rest easy sailor 🇺🇸
RIP sir.

When the ship's CO gave the flag to LTJG Rockwell-Pate's widow, he said to her, "On behalf of the President of the United States, the United States Navy and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one's honorable and faithful service." I was next to my wife when she received her father's flag. It's a powerful and valued moment for the next of kin.
Sorry, could you tell me who is LTJG Rockwell-Pate’s widow in the video as I am unfamiliar with the rites of a naval sea burial?
@@man-kitli1572 She is the lady in uniform to whom the ship CO gives the folded flag. See 10:51 in the video. She is a lieutenant commander.

As a ex Australian Navy Veteran, R.I.P mate ❤

I knew this was going to wreck me, but I watched it anyways. My father was in the Navy. I was the one who officiated his funeral. God Bless Marc's family.
Wow,I did not think it would bother me. I officiated my father’s funeral, he was a Corpsman in the Navy… this bothered me. Releasing him for his duty and taps for me.
@newlifecentere God Bless; You Sir !!! 🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I'm honored just being allowed to see this. Tears are flowing. God love our military for the continued safety and freedom. A debt I can never repay.

i am sorry…but protecting the free world? Seriously? How about protecting the women children, reporters, teachers, medical staff and aid workers in Gaza first before they’re all slaughtered by the idf bombs? 100,000 dead and rising.

I am humbled and honored to have witnessed this video. My heartfelt condolances to his widow. Thank you for your service. RIP
To the crew of the USS Ronald Reagan. Thank you for the support and supplies you provided during the Great East Japan Earthquake. Thanks to you, Fukushima is slowly returning to its original state. As a Japanese, I wish you, your families and friends, and the United States of America all the best. Thank you so much.
Beautiful, your comment brought tears to my eyes 😢
My cousin kory served in the navy and was stationed in Okinawa when that happened.
Glad to hear Japan is recovering. I hope to visit where I landed on Kesennuma-Oshima one day.
I love Japan, it's one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been, but the Japanese people were the true highlight of that trip. They are probably the kindest and most thoughtful people on earth. Mam, thank you for your kind comment, it just proves my point. 🥰
My nephew was stationed at camp fuji in the Marines and spent weeks driving his wrecker around cleaning up - Glad he could help!
As a former Sailor, I would LOVE to be buried at sea, for I have always loved the water, and which is why I chose to be a Sailor in our U.S.Navy.
I just watched one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen.
Who are these simple Americans who dedicate their lives to their ship, shipmates and their country.
I just watched one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen.
God bless Lt.j.g. Rockwell-Pate, his wife and family.
God bless Marc and his family. I spent the major part of my life in the US Navy and then the US Merchant Marine. A Burial at Sea would be such an honor to any Sailors family. Thank you for sharing this video.
10:50 made me cry seeing his wife shaking and crying. That hurts and I hope the loss doesn't hurt that much anymore with the time. RIP and much respect from Germany.
Fair Winds and Following Seas God be with you.
What a beautiful, respectful and emotional service. I wish his wife peace in the days to come.
Thank you all for your service. *salute*
As a former sailor and veteran of the Royal Australian Navy please accept my condolences on the loss of your loved one:
They have no grave but the cruel sea,
No flowers lay at their head,
A rusting hulk is their tombstone,
Afast on the ocean bed.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget
Wow Bro, I just had to screensot your comment so I could keep it. Very cool poem. And thanks for thinking of my brothers over here from that side of the pond. We are brothers everywhere, my friend.

Beautiful poem. God bless all!
You stand relieved, Lieutenant. We have the watch.
I hope the family, friends, and comrades of LTjg Marc Rockwell-Pate, USN, will accept the regrets and condolences of an old cavalryman. A sincere tip of the Stetson to his memory.
Thanks brother.
A very very strong Woman, seeing her shaking...yet she maintained!
Both my spouse and I served in the U.S. Navy as well. This is a beautiful and honorable ceremony, and so meaningful that Lt Rockwell-Pate served aboard this very ship. It's just very profound that the ship he found his sea legs on, is the very ship that is his final disembark of this world. My uncle served 33yrs in the U.S. Navy, retired and found out he had cancer just a couple years after and passed away in just a few months. He was also buried at sea, he was always happiest when he was underway, and struggled when he was on shore duty, always wanting to get back out. I guess they're both were they love to be. RIP Lt Rockwell-Pate
I’ve participated in one burial at sea aboard the USS MIDWAY in 1981.
There were two differences. Our 19 year old sailor was lost at sea while we were working together at night and myself and three other guys tried to save him but we couldn’t and watched as he fell overboard and disappeared under the waves. We searched for his body for two days but he never resurfaced.
The other difference was we used an actual empty casket, weighed down, that was dropped from the fantail (back of the ship) into the ocean. An experience I will never forget.
I'm so sorry that you had to experience your crew mate being lost to the sea. I pray that the years since have been kind to you 🙏⚘
@ thank you Michelle. Losing a fellow Sailor at sea is an experience and a memory that you never forget. Forty one years later I can still see the expression his face and the fear in his eyes as we lost our grip on him as he disappeared into the night under the waves of the sea.
@@blackpatriot1962😢😢 I’m so sorry

As a disabled retired Army Veteran, this crushed me to watch this, that wife is ao very strong, GOD BLESS HER!, AMEN.
I just ran across this channel and it captivated me. How amazingly beautiful. My Dad passed away last December, which was his birthday AND it happened leaving the building where his grandson had just graduated from college. I mean not even 10 minutes after taking a picture with him. I come from a mostly Air Force family with some Army mixed in. The amount of respect that was shown at the cemetery was amazing. I wish I could reach out to the gentlemen that were there from the Air Force to say thank you. Dad’s friends from the legion did the gun salute. Oh my. I just cannot express the gratitude, respect, pride of the “WHOLE” of our military! Thank you all for so much but mostly for protecting myself, family, friends and in a nutshell? Our beautiful country. God Bless You All! Kim
Fair Winds and Following Seas Shipmate. It was an honor serving onboard RR with you.
My Uncle was buried at sea - day 3 Iwo Jima - his landing craft was direct hit - remaining body parts unidentifiable - honor those who serve
@mediamagikgroup honored to watch this. I’m a us army combat veteran and that was a great send off that’s how I’d like to go my ashes released into the sky
I served four years in the US Navy and I experienced a number things that I consider a major honor to have been a part of. But being part of the rifle detail for burial at sea ceremonies ranks pretty close to the highest honor of all. I participated in at least three or four of them. It is the most solemn, humbling, moving things you can possibly experience. Have a cold one and rest easy, Lieutenant, we have the watch....🙏
His wife was extraordinary. God bless her and his family.
I had the Honor and Privilege to participate in at sea burials when I was stationed aboard LHD-3. I was part of three different ones between 2004 & 2005. Was part of the rifle detail. The second one I was able to lay one of my uncles to rest at sea of the coast of the Carolinas during that ceremony and the third one we laid my dad to rest at sea on the way home from our deployment in the middle east of the coast of Italy.
I'm a Civil War reenactor in the Pacific Northwest. You'd be surprised at how many Civil War veterans came out this way.
I've been privileged to be part of the color and firing party for four Civil War burials, and in two of which these men were 'unknowns' where research has discovered who they were. It's a special thing to give a man his name back in front of his descendants.
And, as you and I both know, as veterans 'There, but for the grace of God, go I'.
Sir Thank You so much for my Wife and Me with my two Daughters. May Saint Michael be With you forever. Amen. Gory
God bless
