For those mindboggled by the Type III's (green cammies), they're the general working uniform for all Navy personnel on shore. No, they didn't phase it out for the blend-in-the-ocean issue; more so because the Type IIIs were lighter and more fire resistant than the Type IIs (blue cammies). Rather than remaking the blues with the more fire resistant material, the Navy just made everyone get the greens that were already stockpiled. Furthermore, they wear fire resistant coveralls underway (out at sea). That sub is most likely at port doing maintenance.

Why is everyone caught up with the BDUs? I am retired AF, but I have to acknowledge the Navy has the best training of all the services. After all what else are you going to on a ship for 6 months.

Very impressive! And, I mean that in a good way. I will also say that it is VERY expensive!! Which is why, I believe, Austria does not want to join NATO. They are landlocked and as a neutral country they do not have, need, or even want a navy. They have no problems with not having a Navy and not having to spend anything on such an institution. If they joined NATO then some of their annual dues would go to a navy.
I liked the utilities better than the dungarees, they were the uniform before the dungarees. The pants had pockets you could actually used and they didn’t fade after a few months. More comfortable to wear.

The guy is wrong when he says thay no one individual can be an expert on everything about the boat....if you don't then you will not qualify for your dolphins, and more often than not you will be transferred off the boat and the Navy will put you somewhere else. This will also go on your permanent record too.
No. Being an expert and knowing the basics about something are totally different. Compared to someone not on the sub, they might seem like experts but a nuke engineer isn't going to know a whole lot about torpedos.
I believe his statement is correct. Like a cook is going to be an expert on the nuclear reactor or the Corpsman is going to be an expert on firing torpedoes. Each member has to have a working knowledge of all systems onboard a Sub. Just like getting ESWS, have to have knowledge of the whole ship in order to qualify but you better be an expert at your specific job or others will suffer because of it.
@@okiesailor5417 ESWS doesn't make you an expert, though. You might know the types of missiles on board and their range but you wouldn't have any idea how they work or how to even fire one. There is no need to know that unless you work in that department. Lived it so I know the deal.
I also lived it for 20 years, so yes I also know the deal. I didn't say ESWS made you an expert, I said you better be an expert at your specific job. When I was in, our ESWS quals required some knowledge of all aspects of a ships operations from way down in engineering all the way to the signal bridge, not just your specific job.
@@okiesailor5417 I think we are saying the same thing. I didn't qualify ESWS but I did 99% of my qual card before I got out. I was a nuke engineer and had to qualify on every system in the engine room. The qual process for ESWS was a bit of a joke in comparison. The reason I didn't finish it was because I was uninspired by the symbol. I got 99% of my card signed just by walking around and talking to people. I wasn't an expert on any of that stuff but I could easily pass the board based on what others had reported. I only did the 99% because the XO required some percentage per week... then I got out. Anyway, if you were in 20 yrs you know that NO ONE on a sub is going to be an expert on everything. The sub is huge and no human can possibly know enough about everything on it to be considered an expert. Maybe an expert compared to some average Joe on the street. But, if you take 100 guys that work in the nuke engine room (who are probably the smartest on the ship) and ask them to drive the sub out of port and dive to 100ft I guarantee you they douldn't do it without crashing into something.
That's some balls. 1 month after 9/11 in Miami going out. Gave a thumbs up to a trooper/national guard. He came over and tried to accost me. Told him to call his sergeant. No Sergeants. And no orders. Just told to watch for "A RAB" looking folks. Plenty around. But, they pick the white guy. Ya know the current cancel culture thingie. You have to wear a uniform while on shift. The camouflage uniform is comfortable, has lots of pockets, is hard to stain, and. Does not need ironing. The tan shirt and slacks are made of polyester, stains easily, and is hot and not breathable, and requires ironing and starching. Now, what uniform would you choose to wear?

I don't think I would make it on a sub. No 55 inch TV, Home theater, cramped sleeping quarters, no Tim Hortons for my coffee. lol.
Oh, you are so wrong. Stay off Sea Wolf subs(They HOT rack). But, the rest are like staying at a Holiday Inn.
The rest are really nice. available
Subs get the BEST PAY, BEST BONUSES, BEST FOOD, BEST COFFEE, They even figured out how to do air drops by the US Air Force. YEA! Making the Air Force drop goodies for SUBS.....
It's so weird that so many people who are far more knowledgeable than I am about nuclear power persist in saying "nucular". I understand the natural inclination, since it's two "u" sounds in a row, but not why people keep saying "nucular" after being informed.
My great uncle was in a nuclear sub back in ww1....nothing but respect for these guys!
Your great uncle was in a NUCLEAR SUBMARINE during WORLD WAR 1?......
Yep I don’t see anything wrong with that statement.
Seriously, the 1st nuke sub for U.S. was USS NAUTILUS in 1947. Put the crack pipe down dude. A diesel sub is more like it. Guess someone skipped History class.
There were no nuclear subs in WW1 dim troll, lol.
I wonder why the Navy coveralls are not blue like they used to?
2:22 min
Did he say nukular?
Jungle camouflage in a sub?
Why is everyone caught up with the BDUs? I am retired AF, but I have to acknowledge the Navy has the best training of all the services. After all what else are you going to on a ship for 6 months.
Not BDUSs, as these are not the "battle dress" uniforms, but these are NWUs, Navy Working Uniforms. Theyre designed to be able to hide dirt or grime or grease.
And yeah, the training never stops, even on mission >.>
If we towed behind the sub a mini shopping mall and farm and living quarter then we is scare of 5 star war
That's why France quit NATO and kicked US Troops out of France.....1952-4???
no jumpsuits anymore???
Still don't see what was wrong with the old denim uniforms. But I'm a retired "Chair" Force, what do I know.
Yeah, the Navy shouldn't be wearing Army-style green camo on a submarine. That's just wrong on so many levels. :D
@@tyranusfan it's to save the taxpayers money---something we can all agree on!
I liked the utilities better than the dungarees, they were the uniform before the dungarees. The pants had pockets you could actually used and they didn’t fade after a few months. More comfortable to wear.
Why do submariners refer to them as boats versus ships?
@Stop Racism Thank you for the explanation. I think the Coast Guard refers to their vessels as boats.
Because you can put a boat on a ship, but cannot put a ship on a boat.
I went down in a submarine deeper than that thing goes. 😛
I love subs and kudos to all you sailors, but you’d never get me on that tin can. Nope.
A 'tin can' is actually a reference to the older Destroyers.
Clearly there's a lot of bumming going on
0:13 feels like Apollo 12 Pete Conrad calling "I got three fuel cell lights, an AC bus light, a fuel cell disconnect, AC bus overload 1 and 2, Main Bus A and B out."
@Barry Obama nope. The quote refers to the light strike during 12's
lift off. It also works with Swigert's call.
@Barry Obama berry soetoro is the grand kid of the wealthiest female VP of the Bank Of Hawaii...
@Barry Obama YEA! That's berry's mom.
berry's grandma was the richest female on the West Coast of the US.
She beat out poor queen nancy, por diana feinstein and por barbuba .....
"what do carry on board?". "blah blah blah NARCOTICS IV SOLUTION" "Lemme stop you right there. Hook it up"
Medic/corpsman reminds me of Edward Norton lol.
Whenever I see a serviceman wearing camouflage in the airport I have an urge to shout "I see you." 😄
That's some balls.
Even in 2001, LIBS in charge are trying to make nice to islamofascists. Told them both to back off....
Man, boomers have sooooo much space compared to the attacks boats
Is that Windows 7 on the medical PC? Thats not good.
If any of you experts can design camo that blends in with missile tubes I'm sure our gov't is all ears.
Thats cool
Pretty radical
And they’re camouflaged, lots of shrubbery in subs.
And they wear camouflage why exactly?
It's so the DEMS in Govt, git their kick backs. And make the Sailors SWEAT Their ass off..
"50% Nylon just creates "HEAT EXHAUSTION"!
And you sweat twice as much. Makes you more conductive in an "ARC FLASH" somewhere on the boat.....
So guys in a submarine under the water wear camouflage. Okay. Makes real sense
No they were coveralls, like it makes any difference.
... so necessary to wear camouflage combat clothing when you're on a submarine
Look out Army and AirForce. The Navy is looking to eliminate both of competing branches.
Hmm my.entire family are all military going back centuries my dad wanted me to go into military but i actually did a greedy thing I found a way to avoid going into navy at 17 and in testing class I allowed myself to wander off in my minf and fail that test to.stay out of military its called "you know" what I mean after i left i said yes yes i did it told my friends about it they said uh oh trouble..
So i kind of did a bad thing now i am 61 I was laughing about this that they can't say anything now hmmm i love this video
1:04 2 Motrin for everything
You're joking me, right ? 😬
*Rating* not rate, Skipper.
Something weird about being underwater in a sub with bunch of dudes for months at a time 🙄
Not to mention the incentive pay they get for being on a sub.
Btw. They don't allow socks on submarines...promotes master baitin
