Shinzon (Tom Hardy) debates his shared identity with Picard (Patrick Stewart).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The tenth film in Paramount's highly lucrative sci-fi franchise is also positioned as the last for the entire original Next Generation crew. En route to the honeymoon of William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) to Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) on her home planet of Betazed, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise receive energy readings identical to those uniquely emitted by the positronic brain of android crew member Data (Brent Spiner). Upon investigation, they discover the disassembled parts of an identical android named B4, an early prototype of Data himself, now scattered on the surface of a remote world. As they reassemble B4, the crew receives word from Starfleet that a coup has resulted in the installation of a new Romulan political leader, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who claims to seek d

I recall seeing this movie in the day and thinking what a wonderful performance the young English actor had given. I never noted his name as I thought, as with most of these sci-fi movie actors, he would never be heard of again . I was surprised the other night when I decided to revisit this movie on Blu-ray that it was indeed Tom Hardy. Now I know why he stood out.
Its a bit strange, isnt it? Watching this movie for the first time back in Winter 02/03, I wondered: 'Who the heck is Tom Hardy?' Not much later, I learned that he had small parts in "Black Hawk Down" and "Bands of Brothers" but I didn't think he would become a big star. :D
Back then he had just recovers from a nasty drug and alcohol addiction and wasn’t very well known.
Same!
It's TOM HARDY?? I barely recognised him! :0
@@gokulkrishm51 i know right? i was mind blown how skinny he used to be lol
When Patrick Stewart said "What is all of this about?" he was actually asking about the plot of the movie and just happened to be wearing a starfleet uniform. The director liked it and used the take
It's still the best Star Trek movie.
@@mr.metamovies2419 wrath of khan and first contact
The moral is " who you become " when you walk another path" ....
dont care what people say. BEST star trek movie ever
I do like the conviction in his voice when Shinzon said "We will no longer BOW before anyone as slaves. Not the Romulans and not your mighty Federation." Appeals to my rebellious nature.
If Hollywood reboots TNG (like they always do) Hardy needs to comeback as Picard, his performance was amazing.
+Pontius888 They don't reboot franchises by replacing the cast anymore, they just bring the old cast out of retirement most of the time now.
Hardy's doing pretty good in his career. He doesn't need a comeback if he never left.
Cough, splutter.
No thanks, and Tom Hardy wouldn’t go near it for all the money in the world.
Picard the show was such an ugly letdown
If they make a series about the original Stargazer, Hardy could be brought back to play a younger Picard.
Tom Hardy was the glue that held this movie together lol
THOMAS HARDY in a 'Trek movie?
I didn't even know of it until today, just minutes ago!
I just found out today lol it made me lose my mind a little.
Just found about it.
tom hardy is one of the best at transforming himself for the character he plays
0:32 sounds like a younger version of bane in dark knight.
It kind of is.
+Tim Sarkar Shinzon and Bane - both Tom Hardy
Hardy was the best part of this film. He and Stewart deserved better.
I loved the Shinzon character and Tom Hardy as a result. He was fantastic as Bane, really interesting... Although sadly we only saw his face once. I thought with the voice modulation he actually sounded a bit like Patrick Stewart!
The conversations between Shinzon and Picard are the best parts of this movie. Shinzon is one of the most interesting out of all the TNG villains. If he was better written, he would of been one of the best Star Trek villains. Tom Hardy definitely did a good job despite the material.
I understand why people TNG fans hate Nemesis, but to be honest, I don't really hate Nemesis. It's a movie that is to be honest, is well intentioned, but makes very serious mistakes.
This movie needs more respect. The nature vs. nurture theme between Picard and Shinzon is really solid.
I love this Star Trek movie and Tom Hardy nailed his performance as Shinzon in Star Trek Nemesis and Bane in The Dark Knight Rises ! :)
"We both know that I have to kill you know...you'll just have to IMAGINE the Thalaron!"
Eddie Brock and Charles Xavier in space, awesome.
Don't forget bane
Sam Benjimen very true
Hellboy is in this movie too, he is Shinzon's vicroy
Clay was going into space too.
Tom hardy is so much more then Eddie Brock. He's given a ton of great performances over the years
killer scene.. loved this movie.. one of my fav star trek movies!
This movie is still better then the Picard series 👍
"What... are you?" "I'm Starfleet's reckoning."
"What is all this about?"
"It's about Destiny, Picard!"
I didn't realize Shinzon was such a big fan of First Person shooters.
I’m the king of unpopular opinions but this is by far my favorite Star Trek movie.
It’s my favorite Star Trek movie
Shinzon reveals his Oedipus complex: 0:15 "My life is meaningless as long as you're still alive."
So typical. The 'son' thinks he must surpass the 'father.'
King Arthur vs. Mordred.
But in this case it's a cone vs. original conflict.
Awesome movie. I don't know why so many diss it. Tom Hardy is amazing in this role.
because it doesnt have the nerdy stuff in it.
he's overacting and chewing scenery
he disowned this after
My mother took me on one of our rare outings to see this movie some many years ago. A beautiful introduction to the actor that is Shinzon.
Tom hardy is one of the greatsst actors of all time
"There's over thirty decks on that ship! How are we supposed to find Picard?"
"Follow him!"
"Follow him?!" *Shinzon kills with a disruptor*.
"Picard! Take control! Take control of your Federation!"
Rewatching this clip, and it's shocking how Shinzon has more writing behind him than the last three villains combined.
The secret ingredient is making a Star Trek movie villain-centric and discard all the uninteresting supporting protagonists.
Alfie asking Xavier he could join the X-men?
You know, if they ever gave the next generation the same treatment they gave to the original series with the new J.J. Abrams movies, I think Tom Hardy would make a good Picard
I forgot how skinny Tom hardy was in this. But even in that goofy costume he gives a good performance and has some memorable lines
Oh my god a movie where Tom Hardy hasn't said "Fak off" within 2 minutes of screen time lol
great scene, very well written and directed
Seeing Tom Hardy in Nemesis gives me nightmares.
It's probobly the most underrated film in the Star Trek franchise, I'd like to see John Logan come back and write another script for a new Star Trek movie.
Professor Charles Xavier and Venom in Space.
I like this movie. Got to love Tom Hardy. Damn good actor. Ronald cray was here😉
I'd heard that most people didn't like this movie because it was apparently bad. But I watched it recently and I actually liked it. And I was actually surprised to see Tom Hardy in it but his performance was brilliant, as is to be expected because he is a brilliant actor.
Happy 20th anniversary, Star Trek: Nemesis!
Released 12/13/2002!
Venom vrs Professor X...
(LEGENDARY)
When the Enterprise is ashes, you have my permission to die.
Considering he was planning to literally turn them to ash this line isn't too far off.
"We will no longer bow before anyone...not the Romulans and not your mighty Federation."...My personal favorite line.
This movie definitely isn’t perfect, but I think it is super underrated. Very good film. I definitely wish they kept that one deleted scene with Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner in the film.
Ah, you think mirror analogies are your ally. You merely adopted my analogy.
Hardy was good as Shinzon, but the character could have been better written, because apart from him being a clone of Picard, there wasn't really anything memorable about how Shinzon went about his plans and sometimes his motives and strategies didn't really make much sense. Maybe I should have just started with Hardy is a good actor.
On the contrary. Shinzon was the greatest villain in the franchise! His motives were completely understandable. He wanted to take revenge on the slavers of the Remans and those who let the Romulans enslave the planet of Remus [the Federation].
This was the very first film I saw Tom Hardy in and I knew by the time it was over that this guy was going to be a star.
This movie IS a terrible send-off to the TNG crew... yet the more I look at it, the more I realize it had the POTENTIAL of being a GREAT movie. The idea of "what if Picard had a different upbringing" and having those two personnalities confront in a philosophical duel about it. There really are good fragments of Star Trek in this film, it's just exploited poorly.
Remove the stupid Argo scene, the mind raping, the boarding action scene, Riker/Troi's marriage, Picard's escape in a fighter and you get what ? About 20-25 minutes of extra film time to set up the characters, their motivations and their relationship to one another. We had a Khan-like villain, brilliant, devious, arrogant yet likable and a really deep question that would haunt even the most convinced man (AKA Picard) about how much good and evil might the same person be in different circumstances. Frankly, that's potential right there.
If they had spent more time on developing Shinzon's obsession about not being an "echo" and Picard trying longer to explain that he is a person in his own right, seeing that moment where both recognize each other a bit, then Shinzon's megalomania would be so much more understandable and much more interesting/tragic.
Frankly, if I could turn back time, I'd cut those 25 minutes, talk to Jonathan Frakes and say "Here's the unfinished product, you have 25 minutes of screen time to make a potentially good story awesome. I have faith in you." I'm sure it would have been wonderful.
This movie had a seed of genius in it, but sadly once it sprouted they gave it to someone who used a chainsaw to trim the branches, which killed it completely. THAT is the real sadness.
Jean-Sébastien Trudel The worst part is, about 90% of what you were saying to add are in the deleted scenes. There's a lot of stuff with Data interacting with B4, Worf expounding on his views of Romulans (which comes up later as character development after he sees the two warbirds in action). And finally, most poigniantly, there's a deleted scene where Geordi is looking through Data's quarters and finds his emotion chip. Think about it, Data said "goodbye" *AFTER* Picard beamed out. In a way, he had discovered true human emotion, without a modchip hacking emotion into him, thus completing his quest to become human at the last moment.
Side note: I didn't have a problem with B4 existing in the canon. If you watch the TNG episode "Inheritance", the Juliana Soong android mentioned that there were 3 prototypes that were created prior to Lore and Data, so B4 works in quite nicely.
Honestly, if Frakes directed this, it would have been the best Trek film ever created. Too bad they didn't. We would have kept the TNG films rolling, and we could have avoided the JJTrek mess. Might as well call this "Star Trek: Lost Potential".
+Cheaptastic Productions I don't think Nemesis would have fared better, even with someone else than Stuart Baird at the helm. By 2002, the franchise itself was slowly dying down. "Enterprise" was losing its audience at an alarming rate, even as early as Season 2, and would be cancelled after Season 4. Don't get me wrong, I love "Enterprise" (and "Nemesis" is a better film than many give it credit for (it would hugely benefit from a Special Edition, though)), but in the early 2000s, most outside the hardcore group of fans were simply tired of Star Trek.
If there is one good thing about the JJ-Films that they brought ST back on the mainstream map again and make money. If their success leads to a new TV-Series, I'd be content.
+Cheaptastic Productions JJ frist ST movie was awful (though many would disagree but we agree its just a mess, like it had to be a time warp???) but the 2nd movie was good for 2/3s (Khan was imho better in JJ, not by much but better) until they had to redo the infamous death... that and what follows is pure crap.
Jean-Sébastien Trudel
They could do a Star Trek Next Generation REBOOT...
Hardy and Stewart's performances apart from the SFX/VFX were by far the best part the film. I remember actually enjoying Hardy's and Patrick Stewart's performances in the cinema in despite the film being a bit bit muddled The script and direction was a mess. The good thing that came of this movie is that thanks in large part to Stewart(and a good audition) -Hardy got noticed for future reference as a clear talent and got to be part of better movies than this.
And Patrick Stewart said Tom would never be seen again after working with him on this. All because he would not "hang" with the crew and spent his time in solitude between filming.
Look up his film 'Bronson'. You'll see he was ripped way before Batman.
I'm here to see Tom Hardy doing some ACTING!
He’s 24 here. Incredible.
He looks like a teen
Underrated villainy here on full displacement. That scrawny little nerd trying to play up semantics against Captain Jean Luc-Picard, he grew up so tough he was a Bane and has venom still. My respect to sir Patrick Stewart, still has a commanding presence even after all these years...
It took me until now to realize for years I had a crush on Shinzon and here it was Tom Hardy!!!!
Shinzon-Tom Hardy's Acting Reminds me of Andy Serkis Face Movements...
So picard had even less hair when he was younger than he does currently lol
Prof X vs. Bane
Professor X vs. Bane
Tom is an incredible actor. And i still don't understand how this skinny little bastard became Bane haha.
GuerillaGrodd Ya gotta tease the muscles :)
witness me!
+Jose Paredes :'DDD
Shiny eternal and chrome!
Yeah its 2021 and I can honestly say I never knew Tom hardy was in a star trek movie lol great performance though
hanlon family goes undefeated
I LOVED this movie. LOVED it.
WE ARE VENOM!
And 10 years later, he was Bane!
This was a far better movie than people give it credit for.
Your opinion yes. My opinion no..
YES FINALLY someone speaks the truth!
Nemesis was far better than Generations and Insurrection!
An awesome film for it's time. The 90's and early 00's was a good time for films in my opinion, Todays films like avatar don't even compare. I prefer films that are 20+ years old if not more!!!! My favourite film came out in 2001, AI!
Pro. X vs. Bane
this was 10 years ago and Tom had undergone a strict weight lifting training just so he can fit to the Bane character.. To Tom, Bane is a threat to batman both physically and intellectually..
I remember this part
It's incredible to think how Tom Hardy would transform into the mountain that is Bane - and then back again. Is he made of clay?
Tom Hardy is like soo unrecognizable here, he truly has come along way since this dire movie. He actually plays a good part here, but Nemesis was just tiresome, apart from the sfx, it all just felt abit like a 2hr special episode, rather than a fresh solid sequel.
Raiken Xion Not his fault though. The directing was terrible, even the TNG regulars hated it. And it killed Hardy's career until Nolan came around. With proper directing, Hardy is a highly-desired commodity through the 2000s.
Cheaptastic Productions
Well I did say he plays a good part in the movie, I was not saying that Hardy was the cause of Nemesis badness. It was the tired plot and story.
Anyway he will make a really good Bond villain one day, either that or atleast a seriously badass henchman, like a modern Jaws or something.
oh, story itself wasn't necessarily bad. I thought the thing between Picard and Shinzon was great overall, but like someone else in these comments, could still be a lot better, if they cut a few dumb scenes out and added more to these two.
He bulked up.
I enjoy his face.
Was an incredible movie. A fine end for Piccard, as the series places him as an ill-favoured, idiot.
"Popular Director
John Carpenter"
... what?
1:11 somehow this situation would not work with Jim Kirk
20 years...
Man, Wars ain't got nothin on Trek in terms of drama and suspense.
His better than Nero.
Everthing is better than JJ Trek...
The boy Bane!
If James McAvoy played Tom Hardy's role in Star Trek: Nemesis, he would be better than him, since he played the young Charles Xavier.
Omgosh Tom Hardy is so tiny here and doesn’t even look like himself wow
Somehow he escaped the explosion, and later changes his name to become Bane and Batman's nemesis.
hanlon go undefeated
If I was Picard, I would’ve been talking to Shinzon like a little boy.
Get John Hurt vibes off Tom here. Cool.
They should have just let him go full Alfie. I think Mr. Solomons would be a great intergalactic adversary.
Data
oh wow, somebody started working out..
Why do people say Nemesis is the worst Star Trek film Star Trek 5 The Final frontier is the worst Star Trek film and Insurrection is the second worst film both of them were terrible at least nemesis had an interesting plot and villain while Final Frontier and Insurrection did not
Patrick Stewart just turned 200 :)
Venom does stuff to you man!
I think nemesis would have been a much better film if Sela returned in this villain as the main villain and Shinzon was the pawn in her game and bringing back Spock who continues the reunification process and is kidnapped.
Nah, the Remans deserve the main spotlight in this movie.
This was only one year after he (hardy) was boning some random fraulein in Band of Brothers lol.
I'm not a Trekky, and I pretty much disliked anything past the original series, but I actually thought this movie was pretty cool. It was a million percent better than the previous movie, and the first new gen big screen flop Generations.
Ronnie and Reggie Kray were in Star Trek?
I would agree with that, if only for the fact that Patrick Stewart is fucking ageless. :D
Tom Hardy is skinny here. He really bulk up these years.
Tom doesn't fit into that suit anymore.
