Two great decks, even though Joseph was able to cycle through half his deck in one turn twice over the duels the Vayu deck and what it enabled was so cool on its own and very consistent! Dupe lock failed twice off the rip and Alex always had the outs smfh. Games had it all though, sick OTK mega summons, tough decisions with the DM staples that forced interesting interactions, and of course missing the timing 😭 both decks looked super fun to play though and honestly might be one of the best history eps
I actually have to disagree on Vayu - Cimo made it LOOK consistent, but sadly (luckily) it is far from that. It's an highroller-deck for sure - i just now simulated some opening hands and, man, you brick hard like 3/5 games. You get some garbo like triple Vayu, Caius, MST and just watch while your opponent rams tons of synchros down your throat on turn two. The other problem is that DADdy (IF you manage to draw him) is surprisingly inconsistent with mass mill like Troop and Doggo. You have one dark (Sangan or sth) in Grave and swoop mill 3 dark, no Vayu target, and you have one more dead card in your hand.
@@darwinblau2127 gotta agree on the Cimo draws they were godlike and the ability to banish to get the grave where he needed to drop DAD (which he almost always had access to) was gross and enabled huge combo pushes and outs to everything Joseph could throw at him. Honestly if the Dupe lock even worked once I’m pretty sure Joseph immediately would have taken the game it worked in (cause his grave and hand was set to pop off the next turn). Three raiko first game immediately, and caius to immediately put it was gross as well. It takes a true anime protagonist to make the deck pop but Cimo is that, otherwise the fish deck has so much recursion and extension if any of those games lingered on any further Joseph for sure had it wrapped up. Cimo even played great tho when the odds weren’t in his favor, he would have lost the game if he didn’t book his own monster the one game and Joseph had the extremely hard choice to not get rid of Royal Decree that ended up backfiring in the end so it came down to Cimo having the exact outs to win it but still both decks worked extremely well. Was cool to see two massive combo strategies pop off and really showed the full power of both (except for the official fish OTK even though everything but the final OTK board itself was set up twice)
What I love most about this series is that it shows competitive Yu-Gi-Oh as it was at the time. It's quite literally telling the HISTORY of the metagame. For that reason I'd like to see a curated match between the two best decks of the format!
Except for the part where they don't know how the cards work because they didn't play during the time period, so they don't hit the series maximum potential. As someone already pointed out, freeborn frog and vayu could both repeatedly activate under royal oppression. Probably wouldn't have changed anything, but it's just one example of a cool interaction they missed the chance to give spotlight to.

to clarify on ryko vs. dupe frog: when it comes to ocg and modern tcg rulings, being destroyed by ryko does _not_ cause a card to miss timing, as the two effects _are_ simultaneous ( i.e. they're effectively "and if you do" / "and" effects that are independent of each other, hence why you can destroy when you can't mill and mill when you can't destroy ). as far as upper deck-era ygo, though, they ruled that it targets _and_ the milling happens _after_ the destruction. the dragon's collide ( feb 2012 ) reprint brought the targeting into psct, though its wording is identical to the ocg version otherwise. the premium gold one that followed ( march 2014 ) properly "canonized" the mill-after-destroy ruling, and it would effectively remain in that state until the link strike ( july 2017 ) reprint finally just made it work like it was meant to which, yeah, means the reason why ryko is so confusing is entirely because upper deck had no idea how to localize it, and konami decided not to correct it until several years later because ... everyone was already used to it, i guess. if you ignore all that, though, ryko is actually one of the _most_ straightforward monsters out there to use without advanced knowledge of ygo, because there's no issue of dependent effects or effect timing or anything like that

For the Raiko and Dupe Frog ruling, it wasnt until July 2017 that Raiko got errata'd to make the effects simultaneous. Before this Raiko's pop and mill were in sequence so Dupe Frog misses timing during Edison Format but not nowadays.

I think they touch on that in the video, of which cimo said it wouldn't help. Cimo will not opression the treeborn, but will opression the coelecanth effect
People tried to Oppression a Treeborn? That's hilarious. Is "During the Stadby PHase" really that confusing a statement? There literally isn't a "once per turn" clause on the effect.
No, how Yugioh should be is mill, burn, and other conditions to win, also there's a card that specifically coutners mill in an annoying way so people have no excuse not to run that if they're concerned about it. Fianl Coutndown, Destiny Boare, Exodia, and stuff of that nature are just a trifle harder to stop, although not so much Destiny Board. Although I guess your statement is true with SOME Archtypes, like Skull Servaqnts where there's no limit to how high their ATK can get.
The second - the precise SECOND - that I saw Oppression in Cimo's list, I knew how this was going to end. The universe would let things unfold in no other possible way.
Curated matches are by far the best content in this series. The wheel's funny but as the primary purpose of this series is to educate I don't think it fits the series as much as planned matches do.
Glad to see Joe has taught these fish to synchro summon. Im not saying this is a good Idea. But it might be cool to see the 1st place of the historic against the worst modern deck to see the amount of development the formats gone through?

@20:00 lol, with all the misplays in this series, you two are worried about missed timing? You guys are awesome. I respect the attempt to keep the series honest.
Love to see it Cimo! Please make sure the power of future fusion (prr-errata) and REDMD + 5 Headed Dragon is displayed. Ps Oppression doesn't stop Vayu bc banish is not cost, thus can trigger over and over till the opponent realizes they are burning themselves
I love when you guys mix it up and hope you continue to surprise us. That being said, my favorite moments from the series are the careful reconstructions of the moments and tournaments in Yu-Gi-Oh as it was. As a returning player, largely thanks to this series, I both enjoy this style of content more, and get a better grasp of how the game changed.
For all of us who haven't kept up with the game over the years and are using this series as a way to catch up, it would be nice if every new card to the History series (especially ones that are complicated or important to the deck's strategy) would be explained a bit more in depth. I feel like there were more explanations earlier in this series that made it easier to understand for viewers new to those eras of the game.
Somebody needs to make a gif of Cimo's confused reaction to MBT's monologue where he seemed to forget he bounced Vanity's Fiend back to his hand the prior turn lol
I would really enjoy more edison, this is my favourite format and I'm so happy to see it be so popular. I personally like the modern edison decks more, more of that would be great but in general I would welcome several weeks of this regardless definitely.

Super happy to see Dragons make the wheel that deck got me into the game and I played it and variants for years until rulers and now todays dragon link.
Feel like these Frog strategies would be amazing if they weren't being used against an Anime Protagonist who always has the right combos and cards to deal with it, on top of seemingly having "iconic cards" glued to his opening hand, and in this episode it was Reiko.
The frog strategys are yugiohs midrange, very consistent and versatile in the beginning very powerful in the middle, requires a ton of skill to play well late, and prone to Savagely bricking hard,
i loved watching this. i’m watching you guys to learn how to play Edison w a blackwing deck, going to play for the first time this week after building my deck!
I think it shows how important formula synchron was to further enabling fish OTK, as that card gave you a way to continously use blaster and synchro climb and lets not forget the infamous "opp turn" black rose.
I feel like you should have attacked his facedown monster with your 400 attack frog in case it was ryko g2 since you had the read it was probably something small (its the only card hes set in all games) that way he couldnt remake vanities potentially
TItans match has got to be the one! Always more fun to see you guys get to play something absurd against eachother instead of someone just losing based on a bad spin.
Edison format is so much cooler than I ever thought from someone that dropped out a bit into Gx Era, This is so much fun to watch would love to see more of both the event itself and the historic format the has come after!
started this because i saw Coelacanth on the screen; i PLAYED Fish OTK back in that format, instead of it being "made afterwards". Though, those days, the combos were Mist Wurm+Scrap Archfiend (Oyster, Metabo, 2 Royal Swamp), or Brionac+Ally of Justice Decisive Armor (2 Royal Swamp, 2 Oyster).
I will consume whatever amount of Edison format content you guys produce. You could make a whole other SERIES for all I care. I’m watching every minute. This format rocks.
I have really been enjoying Edison and I would be happy to see you guys do several more episodes in it! I think I honestly want to see all of these decks in action at some point
I personally would like to see some more episodes of both the historic and modern Edison formats. If I had to pick, I would say modern, since they are new decks. However, I don't mind watching multiple episodes in a given format. I love the slice of history you guys do. I would rather see as many cool decks as we can, rather than rush through formats. (especially decks that disappear) Best YGO series on the site by far, keep up the great work.
I would love to see both a curated match between the two strongest decks at the time and another episode where y'all just spin for the modern Edison decks, cause I honestly can't get enough of this format, it's so cool
To answer the Ryko thing, you're playing with Light of Destruction/Turbo Pack: Booster One Ryko - Gold Series 4 isn't out until half way through 2011, Ryko at this time Targets because the rulings say so, AND the mill causes things to Miss the Timing, also because the rulings say so. So MBT is correct here, Ryko makes Dupe miss time. Gold Series 4 (June/July 2011) does not change the timings, but it does say "Select". Dragons Collide (February 2012) sees Ryko with its first PSCT pass, specifying that it Targets, but it was before all of the conjunctions were codified, so it still causes timings to miss because nothing about this errata contradicted actual rulings, and TCG Konami got into the terrible habit of *pointedly* not answering ruling questions and telling people to read the card. Premium Gold (March 2014) updates the PSCT to have the "also, after that" conjunction Realm of Light (June 2014) uses a wholly new form of PSCT, specifying they occur in sequence as part of the same Flip Effect; it targets then sends. Link Strike (2017) is finally the current Ryko, which is listed on Dueling Book, which specifies that the effects are Simultaneous, AND Ryko no longer targets.

People tried to Oppression a Treeborn? That's hilarious. Is "During the Stadby PHase" really that confusing a statement? There literally isn't a "once per turn" clause on the effect.
These were such great matches with cool decks I can see why this is a loved format
17:10 think mbt forget to shuffle there when adding the monsters back to the deck with pot of avarice
Can’t MBT just continuously keep trying to bring back Treeborn in the SP in game 1?
Edit: Ah Cimo confirms he can in Game 2
treeborn is a once per turn so no
Back then it only required that you had no S/Ts and that you didn't control a Treeborn
Cimoo can infinity try to banish for vayu as well
26:27 Missed lethal, you had 3 darks in the grave, you could summon DAD, then summon another armed wing with the burial, 4600 more damage.
prob playing around gorz and fader
Games that use the extra deck and are decided by combat?
This format feels like how Yu-Gi-Oh should be.
More episodes of this please. Another modern Edison, another historic Edison, and a finale modern vs historic Edison.
Bro, I don't think i've ever said "Treeborn isn't once per turn" so enthusiastically in my entire life hahaha
Yeah, I was so mad a couple of months ago when we got mirror match after mirror match. I hope they’d just pick their fav deck of the format and play
Glad to see Joe has taught these fish to synchro summon. Im not saying this is a good Idea. But it might be cool to see the 1st place of the historic against the worst modern deck to see the amount of development the formats gone through?
oh you mean warrocks (worst modern deck)
@@mohamedahmed-qc1uf Definitely mean worst modern edison deck.
@@petergregory7177 oh ok idk about that
I fully support an Edison series, so yes extra episodes of any type are more than welcome.
there's SO many decks in this format we havent even seen at all so i'd be happy to spend an extra few episodes here tbh
What I want from the History of Yugioh series is literally just more videos. This series is so fun to watch and I'm always excited to see the next episode!
@20:00 lol, with all the misplays in this series, you two are worried about missed timing? You guys are awesome. I respect the attempt to keep the series honest.
Special summoning extra deck monsters (fusion monsters) to normal zones in MR4 is against the rules.
2:20 Wheel
5:05 Deck List / Breakdown
13:00 Duels
24:17 Invisible
Love to see it Cimo! Please make sure the power of future fusion (prr-errata) and REDMD + 5 Headed Dragon is displayed. Ps Oppression doesn't stop Vayu bc banish is not cost, thus can trigger over and over till the opponent realizes they are burning themselves
DO YOU THINK THAT IM IN-VIS-A-BLE
*electronic noises*
I think it would be good for the next match to be where you both get to choose your favorite deck so we can see Diva Heroes vs whatever Cimo chooses.
When the Oppression... is ROYAL!!!
As a strong 5Ds era fan I am very glad that I can see all these Edison decks. I remember this era with a bunch of love. 5Ds era is my favorite era.
The score is now
Cimo: 26
MBT: 25
I laughed so hard at 37:55 where Joseph thought that oppression would save him from vayu. #reading
31:27 both players activate simultaneously "sitting readjustment"
I'd love to see 2 things in this before you move on, a match between what would be considered the best historic deck and the best modern one, and a match between the two best ones of the historic format
Please do way more Edison, since we got so much DAD we need some more love for this great format!
I'd be down for more of this format, it's one of my personal favorites, and it rocks seeing you two enjoy it so much.
Edison format is my favorite by far! Thank you so much for extending it! Please continue on it for a while!
Thx to you guys I got interested into Edison Format, played it with my friends and they find it cool too. Now we at locals play just that format. We love it
Also Frog Monarch good deck
Super happy to see Dragons make the wheel that deck got me into the game and I played it and variants for years until rulers and now todays dragon link.
Legit so happy one of you played value turbo. This is my favorite deck of all time
37:45: THE BANTER OH MY GOODNESS.
・THIS IS PEAK YU-GI-OH 🔥🔥🔥🔥
More Edison format pls. Maybe diva hero vs dandy QuickDraw
Can't wait to get here in history of jank. Keep up the Edison content. Literally everyone wants more.
I'd like to see a game where Cimo gets triple Kaluted for his entire life savings.
I would love to see a lot more about Edison, this was at the time that I started playing yugioh seriously and I remember I loved this format
Feel like these Frog strategies would be amazing if they weren't being used against an Anime Protagonist who always has the right combos and cards to deal with it, on top of seemingly having "iconic cards" glued to his opening hand, and in this episode it was Reiko.
The deck probably would've worked better for MBT if he had access to Ronintoadin.
The frog strategys are yugiohs midrange, very consistent and versatile in the beginning very powerful in the middle, requires a ton of skill to play well late, and prone to Savagely bricking hard,
@@NickWuebker yeah but then it's broken lol
i loved watching this. i’m watching you guys to learn how to play Edison w a blackwing deck, going to play for the first time this week after building my deck!
I'd love more matches with the decks on the wheel. You could end the series of edison format with a curated match between finalists
I think he would have if he hadn't decided on the attack with Unifrog. He'd already declared direct attack, and Joe tends to not redo moves.
I don't understand why Joseph didn't keep summoning Treeborn Frog.
I love how at 31:27 they both readjust their seating at almost the exact same time
Loving this, stay in this format as long as possible!
When the OPPRESSION IS ROYAL!
started this because i saw Coelacanth on the screen; i PLAYED Fish OTK back in that format, instead of it being "made afterwards". Though, those days, the combos were Mist Wurm+Scrap Archfiend (Oyster, Metabo, 2 Royal Swamp), or Brionac+Ally of Justice Decisive Armor (2 Royal Swamp, 2 Oyster).
Fun fact about RO:Royal Oppression Guys; It can't stop Vayu from the graveyard, so Cimo was in the total driver seat in game 2.
Dude, that was so awesome to watch. I’ve been putting these on in the background, but this one had my full attention.
I will consume whatever amount of Edison format content you guys produce. You could make a whole other SERIES for all I care. I’m watching every minute. This format rocks.
bruh these edison modern format games are so good ! you can see the quality and time it took to make this meta. Def we need another modern format ONE!
(especially decks that disappear)
Best YGO series on the site by far, keep up the great work.
I would love one more episode of this format like history of jank. Not everyday you could see this many decks in a format
More of both! Please stay in Edison for a long time, and cover every deck! This format looks so fucking awesome!
I love how they are describing these deck as noone played these, but I can show you almost that exact deck list on Tag Force 4
definitely gonna be fun to see more Edison format- no preference as to what approach you take to showcasing it
couldnt treeborn just activate after oppression resolves? since its still the sp
Yeah I was thinking that too
Thats exactly how it works. These misplays
I would love to see both a curated match between the two strongest decks at the time and another episode where y'all just spin for the modern Edison decks, cause I honestly can't get enough of this format, it's so cool
Im so down for more of this format....amazing match both of you gg guys
Yes, give more episode if Edison. Lots more.
I'd like as many weeks of this as possible please
You guys got me into Edison, i didnt know this was a thing and i loved this format.
Can't set off Swap tho. xD
This series is great. Love the set up. I'm so excited for the dragon ruler vs. Spellbooks episode
A curated match sounds awesome. Actually some of my favorite History content is when you guys have specific formats.
MOAR EDISON. I like this format alot.
These were both actual decks I ran back in the day, no idea when but they were such blasts.
Premium Gold (March 2014) updates the PSCT to have the "also, after that" conjunction
Realm of Light (June 2014) uses a wholly new form of PSCT, specifying they occur in sequence as part of the same Flip Effect; it targets then sends.
Link Strike (2017) is finally the current Ryko, which is listed on Dueling Book, which specifies that the effects are Simultaneous, AND Ryko no longer targets.
Last episode was weird but this one got me excited about this format, so cool to watch
Two more episodes, two more episodes! I don't even care what decks, Edison is just a fantastic format.
This was a great episode. A true treat indeed.
