I remember seeing space harrier in the arcade before 3D games were much of a thing. it was so wild, threw me off balance practically the POV was so cool.
Thanks Mark! Yeah, I think f we're not going to see any more new titles, then seeing new XL with proven titles like STAR WARS and MKII makes a lot of sense... At least to us it does!
You gotta be able to walk before you can run! Most people simply want some form of the "Big 5" classics, and A1up gives them that. Hopefully we'll some new titles or at least XLs of current releases.
I saw some good deals lately but no room, Time Crisis was really the lowest I ever saw it but once I figured out how much it would cost to upgrade I decided to pass.
I have six(2 countertops) but haven't bought anything new in 4 years. Pricing went nuts and quality such as it was dropped. Only ever had one issue and support help fix it.
Nothing wrong with the Walmart versions, they are great for those who don’t want to spend $400-$500, and then they can just upgrade over time. I bought my first cab at year ago at Walmart, it was a Ms Pac Man with WiFi leader boards and a coin door. I’ve since added a lit marquee that I picked up off of eBay and i just got some lights for the coin door. I also bought a peasant version of Yoga Flame from marketplace new in the box for $200, great cab and easy to add a lit marquee as well.
That's exactly what I was talking about! Super easy (and even fun) to upgrade those peasant-cades. And at $299, there's a whole lot less risk in doing so.
I was happy with my Ninja Turtles machine at full price and my Mortal Kombat machine on sale, even though it only has two sticks and more than one three-player game on it, but I'm extremely disappointed with the Class of 1981 machine ... the lag on the display is so bad IMO it's almost unplayable, and there's no way to fix that with software updates or a new stick (as Arcade1Up recommended and provided for free) since it's purely due to cheap laggy hardware. I wish I had just saved my money and bought a real Class of 1981 machine with old-school hardware that was at least responsive. My advice to any of them is to try before you buy whenever possible.
Did a joystick replacement reduce lag in any way? I do feel there is a dead zone. I assume it is mostly in the screen processing. I just got this from my wife's dad as a Christmas gift so I never even researched it. I really appreciate it and I can get enjoyment from it, but there's incredible frustration in attempting any serious high score attempts. The lag is unacceptable. Having played these in the arcade in the 80s as a teen makes the lag feel that much worse.
