Thank you so much, I opened mine w/a small straight screwdriver. Found the terminals jumped them 5seconds each press the reset and I got lights! Charging now. Thank you!
Yeah, that was a good idea. Homedepot has a non-profit group that handles their recycled batteries up to a certain weight and size. If you haven't gotten rid of that one then you can call them and they can tell you what to do with it.
Jeff, I have tried this method a few times now and nothing. Does the jumper just have to make contact? Or does the jumper have to enter into the holes?
Thanks for the info. Did you test the voltage before you reset? Most of the videos say the charger won't recognize the battery if voltage is below 30v. Just wondering if reset does any good until voltage is brought to 30-35v?
I have an older style 5ah 40v pack that only shows 1 LED for charge. Put it on the charger and it immediately shows it as full charge, no red error LEDs. wonder if it has a similar problem. Any thoughts?
Hi Jeff, I have a Ryobi 4Ah 40 volt battery and I watched your video for the 6Ah. I found the circuit like yours and tried jumping it like you did 3 times and it did not work. I noticed the configuration is different on my battery and there is another set of connections right next to the 5 set. It also says ground and reset and has 6 tabs. I tried to do the same with that one with no success. Any suggestions? Do you have a video for the 4 Ah? Thanks for any help you can supply. These batteries are expensive.
It might be that the battery is toast. I will see if I have time to put together 4a battery video for you tomorrow, otherwise I can do it one on Monday.
Great video! I have a ryobi mower. The batteries stopped working after just a year of use. I saw your video and thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately it did not work for me. The batteries light “fuel indicator” are lighting up in just the 1st and 3rd marks. Do you have any experience with this?
Have you ever successfully reset the “four flashing lights“ on a 40V 6AH battery model OP40605? Or a 40V 4AH battery model OP40404? I can’t find anyone who’s documented a working procedure for either. These boards have two sets of reset pads lined up side-by-side. I’ve tried various permutations of jumpering one, the other, or both, with and without pushing the test button, all to no avail.
I have had that issue before on one of my batteries. What I did for that was follow the reset process with a jumper and at the same time I pressed on the battery's power level indicator button on the side of the battery. The issue was resolved after that.
That only works for the single-reset-terminal boards. Have you ever successfully reset the type I mentioned in my original comment? If so, can you share the procedure?
My battery is an OP40602VNM, 40v 6ah, bought in 2001 (past warranty, alas). I had charged it to full two months ago, but now it is dead (stored in garage). The voltage between T1 and T2 is 0.0v, between T3 and T4 it is about 0.15v. On the charger, I get the alternating green/red flashing lights. Clicking the battery test button gets no result - no LEDs alight. I have tried shorting between RST and GND with no result; also between RST and 3.3v with no result. Putting it back on the charger just results in the flashing red/green again. Any ideas?
With the results that you have had using a voltage meter there is a high likelihood that that battery will not come back to life. The flashing green and red on the charger says that something is defective, either the battery or the charger. I am sure that you tried another battery in the charger and tried the battery in a different charger. If you haven't then give both of those a shot to see which one is the issue.
@@JeffSeetonLawnCare Yes, I have tried another battery in the charger and that one charges correctly. Do you have any opinion on which secondary market battery is the best to get, as I do not want to spend $280 on another Ryobi battery? Thanks.
@@rhurkens I haven't used any aftermarket batteries with any of my tools so I don't have any personal experience. I have had people tell me that they bought generic 40v batteries from amazon. They reported that the 6a generic gets about the same run time as a Ryobi 4a. That is all I got, nothing on the life of those batteries or even safety. I would say that you might want to keep an eye open as the fall takes hold; Ryobi usually has fall deals where they through in batteries with the purchase of a tool. I do know many people that jumped at those deals and then sold the tool only at like a $50 to a $100 dollar loss, keeping the batteries and the charger.
Good video! My battery appears dead. I opened it - jumped it - no power once I put it back together. With it open I can press the tab to show battery and it's 4 bars. But once I put it back together insert in charge it just looks dead. Any ideas?
The first thing I would do is try it on another charge. If it fails then there is a method where you can jump it and follow that by immediately pressing the battery power level button on the side of the battery. It it flashes and then drops to a single bar then there is a high chance that it will take a charge. Keep me posted.
Yes, I had a battery show that it was fully charged but then wouldn't run a tool. I fixed it by using the reset method that I used in this video but at the same time as holding the jumper I pressed the charge indicator button on the side of the battery. The power level dropped to the lowest charge level and when I put it on the charger the battery took a charge.
