A simple list of issues from someone who used to be a gunsmith. The Star .45 and Makarov is a simple failure to feed most likely from excessively worn slide components. Simply re-racking won’t fix this. Desert Eagle: doesn’t look likes it’s been properly maintained in years if ever. Forcing it will only damage it further. Mac, Uzi: system seizure, again poorly maintained. Double barrel: somehow the lips of the shell’s brass have been sheered off and the rounds fallen into the breech. Simply stick a twig down the barrel and push them out. The ammo must be quite old. G3/AK/FAL. Excessive use and improper maintenance seized the bolt. As for the stuck magazines, I can only hypothesize that the excessive use has swollen the cheap magazines and locked them up. Ar-16: this is a simple failure to feed. Simply pull the charging handle back and the round will fall out of the magwell. Slamming the forward assist will either do nothing or cause further damage. MP5: Again, weapon not taken care of. System seizure. MGL: looks like the rotator spring has jammed/broken. Wrenching it around would only destroy the weapon. Despite popular comments, smacking it isn’t dangerous as the grenades have a distance timer before they are primed after launch. Homeland/SPAS/870: just plain stupidity. Springfield: locked up bolt. Again not taken care of. Wrenching it around would only damage it further. Dragonov/AS50: oil your damn guns, kids PKM/M249: User doesn’t know how to operate the weapon. Attempts to remove box while the belt is seated, improperly as the hatch won’t shut. Crossbow: good god man stop hurting yourself. String catch is damaged, even if it catches I would not trust it to hold and would treat it with extreme caution. The constant dry firing has more than likely severely damaged the limbs and thrown the weapon out of balance. Flamethrower: if it burns to simply touch the dials, slowly put it down and run far away. It’s shite. Dart rifle: appears to simply be a damaged mag or magwell.
The funny thing is that the jamming animations never stop until you tap the reload button. I got bored one time after I finished this game and walked through the whole map from North to South while the makarov jamming animation was on a infinite loop lol.
Magma Axis So if you press a button to unjam the gun, does that mean you have to wait a short time before doing so, or can you just press it right when it starts jamming
Why? Those things don't go off until they have travelled a certain distance after being fired. Unless you set the grenades on fire, it's safe. As for beating it being practical, well, I don't own a grenade launcher.

A crossbow can jam unless there's already an arrow stuck in it. Otherwise, you're just not pulling back hard enough or the mechanism that catches the wire is broken.
Alex G I actually PLAYED the game a while ago. Guns constantly breaking, ever present malaria you need to FIND medicine for or you slowly start losing control of your body, African soldiers at every fork in the road, constantly going back and forth between two organizations doing missions for each one against the rival organization until you feel like you've lost all sense of loyalty and honor, friends whom you work to save end up trying to kill you...so you kill all of them, at the end you finally break and go on a suicide mission and kill all of the leaders before offing yourself. Feel good game of the year

Unjamming the weapons is actually much faster than shown in the video, you just need to press the reload button. The person who uploaded the video purposefully didn't press the button for a few seconds so that we could watch the animation. You can see when they press the reload button to unjam, when the health bar pops up. It's quick.
I think a lot of people are missing the context of why these animations are like this. These jams usually happen in the middle of a firefight. Your mercenary is desperately trying to get the weapon to work just long enough to survive. They look careless because there is no other option.
Ok but every time you have at least a pistol incase if that situation appears, plus what he's doing is severely damaging the gun, and most of the jams happens because of improper care

The Metronome I know, this game is not meant to be super realistic, you shot an enemy on the head and they survive, a gun blowing up isn't a big deal, and it can happen but it isn't common, but still, cool mechanic.

Yeah. Hate the malaria. But gun jamming is truely the best system in this game. It makes me more engaging in trying to find replacement weapon on the ground. In farcry 3 they drop their cheap weapon, and i just stared at it wondering what was the point. They only serve bullet.
+Al Paca Because Far Cry 2 over did it and it was also plagued with multiple flaws, many of which weren't fixed (Which a majority of criticisms for the game come from) as a result it wasn't implemented again.
+Al Paca People found it very annoying. You see plenty of things in the two other games that people used to complain about in Farcry 2. I think the way they handled fast travel in Fallout 3/4 was pretty bad compared to Farcry 2. In FC2 you took buses to specific locations (9 on the entire map IIRC) then you had to drive where you wanted to go. In the later games you don't really have any significant travel time. In FC2 every car you met on the road was out to ram you and kill you. You had no way to fight back in the driver seat (and changing seat to the roof mouted machine gun took like 3-4 seconds). If your enemies managed to damage your car enough it'd slow down to a crawl which means you would have to stop and repair it. In which case you might run into more of them. So getting from one place to another could take upwards of 10-20 minutes (or even longer if you die and have to respawn at your latest savepoint, usually where you took the bus). That time really adds up. Couple that with guns jamming so you had to go to a gunshop (not safehouse like in FC3/4, these were special places) and you got absolutely massive travel time in the game. But all that stuff really added to the immersion in ways that FC3/4 didn't manage. You often used different weapons simply because your main gun was beginning to jam (unless you were ready to bite that travel time of visiting gun shops). In FC3/4 you usually stick to a weapon according to your range (you carry a shotgun/sniper/rifle/explosive). I personally frequently felt my arsenal was sub par for the job. I like that. Picking up an enemy weapon in desperation because your silenced MP5 blew up was a great experience.

fake h it really isn't easy I'm a marine core and and with a homelands shell bullet has a trap lock. If I tried to do that the bullet will be shot out the gun as fast as a bullet. My marine friends got killed for picking the bullet out of there. Ahhh the Vietnam war times

Well think about it, when this happens most the time it would be in a gun fight, you think someone being shot at would be pretty frantic when it comes to unjamming their gun.
Frustration is using the Springfield 1902 and having it jam right when you have a ripe headshot lined up, and further, forgetting to zoom out and reload.
Actually, Meme Star, you can tell the difference from the Chinese Type 56 to an AKM from the sights. Type 56 rifles have closed-top round sights where as this one here is open. It is likely an AKM or AK-47 from that standpoint.

Black Baron The shells left over get lodged in the barell. But that is highly unlikely just like the ak. Don't know how you would ever manage to do that. Unless you do it on purpose somehow.
***** They had some pretty badass mercenary companions you could enlist to fight with you but they died so easy you wasted all your stimpacks on them, and then (it was an option not a must have) you just put them out of they're misery with a pistol shot the the head.
More like every 45 minutes of playtime. Malaria really isn't that big of a deal. the worst things about it are that it may come and blur your vision in an inopprotune moment, and you occasionally need to go on a sidequest to get more medicine. It wasn't THAT annoying.
Grenade Launchers are actually pretty stable. You could keep punching a fully loaded grenade launcher as much as you like, as long as you don't hit the primer. But in this case I wouldn't hit a shitty, rusty grenade launcher in case the firing mechanism slips and hits the primer

+Henry2962 Revolver cylinders sometimes don't line up with the firing pin/hammer. Its called the timing. Idk if that's really considered jamming, but it can cause the shooter to get killed.
Ace The shells have a ridge on the back that stops them from going in any further, same with any other cartridge. So how the shells get stuck in the barrel makes no sense. So...I guess Africa is right.
jaydubyuel That's the point, you are in Africa in the middle of civil war and most guns are old and neglected, that is why they jam. It says so in the beginning of the game ( if you played at all). You can buy brand new guns on black market that are high quality and don't jam ( spending in game money to unlock it at specific points).
That one was really funny. It didn't jam, but the rockets would start doing crazy shit. Like you'd shoot them and they'd just fly in circles or come back to hit you. Using an old RPG in that game was like playing russian roulette.
The misfire for the RPG-7 was the main booster failing to ignite, it just coughed the thing onto the ground in front of you and it spun around in circles and eventually exploded. "Coming back to hit you" was actually something else, the projectile weapons in FC2 have actual collision physics and deflect off angled surfaces. I discovered this when screencapping the game for IMFDB, when I managed to bounce an explosive crossbow bolt off a chicken.
Farlon Spookblade the first one and the second one do have gun jams because of course, its a save-load simulator (lets try to forget fallout tactics), but i'm suprised you never seen a gun jam in the other ones. I know that new vegas has gun jams when the gun is in bad condition, and i think fallout 3 has that mechanic too. never played fallout 4 though so cant talk about that one
No guns jamming in Fallout 4. They took that out because too many people were annoyed by the fact that they don't take care of their guns and it jams when firing and they get killed because of it. Sorry for the realism fellas.

Guns you buy from the store are in perfect condition and don't jam unless you use it for a long ass time, enemy weapons are in horrible condition and are much more likely to jam

I'll probably chalk it up to the guy accidentally using glue instead of any other cleaning material when cleaning the breech.
Old break action guns didn't have auto ejectors, and shotgun shells can become stuck, especially if they're rusted or paper shells.

Guns constantly breaking, ever present malaria you need to FIND medicine for or you slowly start losing control of your body, African soldiers at every fork in the road, constantly going back and forth between two organizations doing missions for each one against the rival organization until you feel like you've lost all sense of loyalty and honor, friends whom you work to save end up trying to kill you...so you kill all of them, at the end you finally break and go on a suicide mission and kill all of the leaders before offing yourself.

Unjamming the weapons is actually much faster than shown in the video, you just need to press the reload button. The person who uploaded the video purposefully didn't press the button for a few seconds so that we could watch the animation. You can see when they press the reload button to unjam, when the health bar pops up. It's quick.

I think a lot of people are missing the context of why these animations are like this. These jams usually happen in the middle of a firefight. Your mercenary is desperately trying to get the weapon to work just long enough to survive. They look careless because there is no other option.
Ok but every time you have at least a pistol incase if that situation appears, plus what he's doing is severely damaging the gun, and most of the jams happens because of improper care

+Al Paca People found it very annoying. You see plenty of things in the two other games that people used to complain about in Farcry 2. I think the way they handled fast travel in Fallout 3/4 was pretty bad compared to Farcry 2. In FC2 you took buses to specific locations (9 on the entire map IIRC) then you had to drive where you wanted to go. In the later games you don't really have any significant travel time.
In FC2 every car you met on the road was out to ram you and kill you. You had no way to fight back in the driver seat (and changing seat to the roof mouted machine gun took like 3-4 seconds). If your enemies managed to damage your car enough it'd slow down to a crawl which means you would have to stop and repair it. In which case you might run into more of them. So getting from one place to another could take upwards of 10-20 minutes (or even longer if you die and have to respawn at your latest savepoint, usually where you took the bus). That time really adds up. Couple that with guns jamming so you had to go to a gunshop (not safehouse like in FC3/4, these were special places) and you got absolutely massive travel time in the game.
But all that stuff really added to the immersion in ways that FC3/4 didn't manage. You often used different weapons simply because your main gun was beginning to jam (unless you were ready to bite that travel time of visiting gun shops). In FC3/4 you usually stick to a weapon according to your range (you carry a shotgun/sniper/rifle/explosive). I personally frequently felt my arsenal was sub par for the job. I like that. Picking up an enemy weapon in desperation because your silenced MP5 blew up was a great experience.

Actually, Meme Star, you can tell the difference from the Chinese Type 56 to an AKM from the sights. Type 56 rifles have closed-top round sights where as this one here is open. It is likely an AKM or AK-47 from that standpoint.

More like every 45 minutes of playtime. Malaria really isn't that big of a deal. the worst things about it are that it may come and blur your vision in an inopprotune moment, and you occasionally need to go on a sidequest to get more medicine. It wasn't THAT annoying.

They can do what's called a stove pipe jam. Also, surplus/old ammo can get stuck in the chamber.

jaydubyuel That's the point, you are in Africa in the middle of civil war and most guns are old and neglected, that is why they jam. It says so in the beginning of the game ( if you played at all). You can buy brand new guns on black market that are high quality and don't jam ( spending in game money to unlock it at specific points).

That one was really funny. It didn't jam, but the rockets would start doing crazy shit. Like you'd shoot them and they'd just fly in circles or come back to hit you. Using an old RPG in that game was like playing russian roulette.
The misfire for the RPG-7 was the main booster failing to ignite, it just coughed the thing onto the ground in front of you and it spun around in circles and eventually exploded. "Coming back to hit you" was actually something else, the projectile weapons in FC2 have actual collision physics and deflect off angled surfaces. I discovered this when screencapping the game for IMFDB, when I managed to bounce an explosive crossbow bolt off a chicken.

Farlon Spookblade the first one and the second one do have gun jams because of course, its a save-load simulator (lets try to forget fallout tactics), but i'm suprised you never seen a gun jam in the other ones. I know that new vegas has gun jams when the gun is in bad condition, and i think fallout 3 has that mechanic too. never played fallout 4 though so cant talk about that one
No guns jamming in Fallout 4. They took that out because too many people were annoyed by the fact that they don't take care of their guns and it jams when firing and they get killed because of it. Sorry for the realism fellas.

And seeing as crafting is a staple in Fallout 4, it's ridiculous that they took it out and didn't add repair kits to the game.

given the amount of dirt and sand mixed with the heat and sweat from the shooter im impressed with the number of ways guns jam in this game and how it ties into your weapon wearing out some what to quickly for some people
enemy weapons are also more likely to jam
Guns you buy from the store are in perfect condition and don't jam unless you use it for a long ass time, enemy weapons are in horrible condition and are much more likely to jam

As long as you don't think about the fact that this happens in real gunfight and in the game's gunfights and you have to pound the gun until it works again in a few seconds otherwise you'll be killed. :v But when just looking at it like this. It's actually kinda... Calming. Almost.
