Final Chase and White Jungle are probably just the stages that were rushed at the end cause Shadow originally wasn’t going to be playable. These are the only 2 stages that repeat assets from another speed stage (Final Rush/Green Forest). And Sky Rail was originally a Sonic stage before Shadow was planned to be playable
White Jungle is the second stage in the game's files after Green Forest so it was likely created pretty early in development. There's no concrete evidence that Shadow was added late into development.
SA2 has clever asset reuse everywhere in that there are only a few unique environments and some levels share "pieces" with eachother. There's City, Jungle, Dessert(egypt), Halloween, and Ark themed levels and that's pretty much it unless you count the green hill easter egg. Dry Lagoon is the only level I can think of that kinda breaks this mold by mixing egypt and jungle together.
@@GoldenGrenadierI think you could throw GUN in there as a level theme; Iron Gate, Prison Lane, and Security Hall each share a lot of assets specifically between the three of them. Metal Harbor and Weapons Bed could also be thrown in there, but they also only seem to share between each other.
I'm not surprised seeing a second Goal Ring in most stages. Because those rings are always where the original stages rings were. For the 2 player mode, if they moved the ring back a bit, they usually go something like: "well they're never gonna make it past the intended goal for the multiplayer stage so ehhhh just leave it there". Just a game dev thing
I can imagine there are action scenes that trigger at those particular locations with the intention of only ever 1 player reaching them, thus the change the level layout/dynamic and cant be easily reset. When the game was ported to gamecube i imagine the developers didnt get much time to find a way around them so just moved the goal post earlier otherwise player 2 would be locked and couldn't continue. Maybe a good way to test that theory is have 2 tails get to the parts where the action scenes play out and the layout shift happens and see if the other player can then progress normally afterwards
You can actually get to the firey running part on Final Rush without hacking. You have to stand outside on top of the arch and spin dash down and then move up (it's really hard to explain). Metal Sonic can make it too with enough speed :)
Nice, did all of this using the super sonic/shadow mod in the steam version obviously. I always wanted to know *everything* about the multiplayer stages also in the final rush stage there's a way to get passed the first goal ring without mods or anything. Found it out years ago but if you jump on top of the tunnel thing, go as close to the wall as possible then spin dash to the side (I always did the right side) if you time your jump properly after spin dashing off you can use the homing attack jump (or whatever you'd call it when you jump and then press A a second time) you can land on the path that leads you to the end
Fun fact: There's an invisible platform just past the goal in Sky Rail that you can actually stand on without cheats. It should show up if you turn on collisions. Also, you should try poking around in the Treasure Hunting stages. There might be some cool out of bounds things in there, such as the upper area of Security Hall or the hidden rooms in Wild Canyon and Dry Lagoon
I discovered that you can still trigger the falling debris in final rush multiplayer on my own. I just clipped through the floor using a cheat as Sonic. Was hoping there was a goal ring down there.
They did something similar in Sonic Heroes for the Team Rose stages. If you manage to get past their normal goal rings, the stage continues as normal. In fact Team Rose even has dialogue for parts of the stage they normally can't access. That seems to suggest that the change to the stage layouts was very late in development for Heroes.
Yup, I was gonna say this as well. I once got past the regular end of one of their stages and was able to play it pretty much normally and find the Goal ring for Team Sonic/Dark.
Wait....the Tails thing "time to Jam!" and getting his plane, was this part of the game?? I've never seen it before. I know you modded it, but it looks like a lost legit thing...

That would make sense! Thanks for sharing :D

I was literally going to comment this. All im thinking is “It has to be because shadow wasn’t planned properly for the game”

The game really just went, "You don't deserve those. Give them here!"
It’s cool to see what corners the developers had to cut in order to release this game
A little funfact. The Cutting Room Floor also shows all of this.

I don’t know why this was so funny to me 0:20 but Amy just gave up on chasing him😭, great vid tho
Interesting, reminds me of the extended goal rings in Team Rose's stages in Sonic Heroes!

Used to do that all the time for no good reason😂

this was dope! Good content
Thanks man! Glad you liked it :D

would've been 100x easier if you used the Debug Mode mod and just nocliped over 😭
Where’s the fun in that? Flying in a plane with tails is much more fun
@@DawsDawsit was definitely more fun to watch

I wonder what would happen if you have both characters touch both goal rings at the same time.
I tried testing this off camera, it just seemed to have played out like normal but maybe with specific timing something else could happen lol
I've seen 2 goal rings in the same stage in colors

Perhaps it was a line from sonic adventure dx since the voice sounds different, that’s my best guess anyway
gg good video
No city escape or grind race from pyramid cave
nah I didn’t find much of a reason to include them in the video
@@DawsDaws my bad I saw that you already did it in a previous video
@@4evaUncooked lol no worries
God, this game's a mess... love it-
