Building a Living Space in a Van For a Subscriber (Pt. 1)
I am building a Ram Promaster 2500 Cargo van into a living space for a subscriber who has been struggling to find someone to convert her van for her.
Flooring:
The flooring of this van was made with several layers. The floor was framed with 2x2 lumber connected together with pocket hole joinery. The gaps in the framing were filled in with 1.5 inch polyiso foam board insulation. The gaps between the insulation was covered with foil ducting tape.
The insulation is covered with waterproof cork flooring underlayment and then finished flooring was put down last. The finished flooring is lightweight water resistant laminate tongue and groove flooring.
Skylight & Roof Vent:
I installed a skylight in the back section of the van over the area where the converting bed will eventually be built. The roof vent was installed in the front section of the van near where the kitchen and shower will eventually be built. The skylight is equipped with a bug screen and reflective sun cover as well as several opening positions. When the skylight is open and the roof vent is turned on, it creates a wind tunnel effect, constantly pulling fresh air into the van and ejecting the current air. The wind tunnel also simulates the feeling of air conditioning.
Electrical System:
I mounted four 100Watt solar panels on the roof of the van and wired them together to create a 400 Watt charging system for the battery bank below. I built a battery cabinet to house the Ecoflow solar generator/portable power station and ran fuses for all of the 12V appliances that will be installed in the van. The electrical cabinet will also double as the support for the converting bed.

Love watching your builds. Just a thought, hope you don't mind.... maybe consider a rubber grommet in for the wires coming in from the solar panel. In time, they could rub and cause a problem.

Just some ideas, if you want them:
1. Stagger the joints when you place any type of planking - such as what you used for the ceiling. It just gives an overall, better looking job. And in some cases, it can actually add strength.
2. Titebond 3, the green color - offers a longing working time and is exterior rated
3. Label maker for wiring - that's how the Pro's do it . . . and it just looks cleaner than blue masking tape

Great work as usual, only thing that I would give some constructive criticism about, is, when doing the ceiling with tongue and groove, or shiplap, or whatever you want to use, it definitely helps to offset your boards, so that you don’t have one straight line across the ceiling/walls, adds a nice look to it, while also giving character to the ceiling.
Again, love watching your vids, only giving out a tip that helped me with wood working!
You upgraded your editing it’s really nice to see your channel getting better and better! Now you can focus on building stuffs and less headaches when editing 😂

There's a lot of things I need to think about for my bus. I love the pocket door idea! I was thinking no separation, but that's cool! My bus has unistrut and rails for adjustable seating. I'm trying to think about how many seats I want to keep. If I flip a pair backwards, I might keep them for a dinette with the back on the wall and legs toward the counter and put my bed on the other side. I bought a 36" Hart workbench tool chest for cheaper than a cabinet. Still thinking about the wheelchair lift.

Always enjoy your videos - Next time you do a T&G bead board ceiling stagger your cut ends so they don't all end up along the same "nailer" - Makes for a more pro job but you have to figure in a bit more waste
