The ULTIMATE guide to Liquid Screen Protectors! Are they worth the HYPE?

- So I’ve spent the last few months using several liquid screen protectors and here’s the bottom line:
Liquid screen protectors are not a complete replacement for traditional screen protectors.
With all that being said, liquid screen protectors are pretty cool. I’ve come to this conclusion after using three different brands of liquid screen protectors on a variety of devices. The questions I personally had about liquid screen protectors and will answer in this video include:

And after I go through all that, I’ll tell you whether or not I would actually recommend using a liquid screen protector (00:11:44).

*What are liquid screen protectors exactly? How do they work?*
Liquid screen protectors start off as liquid glass. The base compound that’s used in every liquid screen protector that I’ve come across is Silicone Dioxide.
Every product I used had the liquid screen protector in a wipe form and takes a couple of days to dry completely.
*Can you really re-add the oleophobic coating back to your device?*
I stripped 1/2 my iPhone X with a Magic Eraser and added a liquid screen protector to that stripped side. I performed a water droplet test on both sides of the iPhone and the side with the stock coating out performed the liquid screen protector side.
The only thing I noticed throughout this process is that the screens on my older devices definitely felt smoother.
*Does it add to the scratch resistance of the device?*
It does but unlike regular screen protectors, you can't take it off after it gets damaged. The damage is going to look permanent which isn't great.
*Will it fill in cracks or scratches?*
I was really hoping that it would. It doesn’t. I applied a liquid screen protector to a cracked screen protector to see if it would fill in the cracks and it didn't.
For scratches, I wiped my beat up Apple Watch Series 3 with a liquid screen protector and the giant gash across the front of the device didn’t look any better. Or worse.
*Does it really make the screen tougher?*
In short, yes it does. I took three identical screen protectors and applied a liquid screen protector to one of them. I used the first two screen protectors to determine what height they would break by dropping a 200g ball on them. It was between 9-10 inches. The screen protector with the liquid screen protector applied broke at 16 inches!
*Can you use it with a screen protector on top?*
Yes you can! Since it’s just glass on top of your smartphone screen, there’s no reason why you can’t add another layer of glass on your screen. Or plastic, depending on what type of protection your are looking for.
*Can you use it with a waterproof case?*
This is the only type of screen protector that would work well in any waterproof case since it doesn’t add any thickness to the device. From my perspective, it’s going to work with any waterproof case out there.
*So would I actually recommend using a liquid screen protector?*
In short? Not by itself on a smartphone. I think it's a good accessory if you're REALLY paranoid about your screen breaking and you use it with other accessories. Our smartphones go through a lot of wear and tear so the tiny bit of protection the product will offer won't be enough.
However, I'm not as against using liquid screen protectors on tablets. The screen on my iPad feels like new and since I don't take my iPad much, having the tiny bit of extra protection isn't a bad thing.

Buy the ones that come in a little bottle of the liquid, then just dump it on and spread it evenly. You get a nice thick coating and it fills In all the scratches and divots in your screen. Works great.
Hi... what brand you bought.. I used crystalusion wipes which felt great but that's because it was 50p each when they were discontinued. I want to see scratch test on phones not using gorilla glass (motorola).

I am so glad I found this video. This is the 5th review I've watched for liquid-glass screen protectors and the only one so far that provided independent test results. I really appreciate all the work you did putting this video together. I didn't trust the CellHelmet video where they dropped a pinball on a phone since it was a video from the maker, so seeing an independent review is worth a lot. Seeing 16" compared to 10" is significant enough for me to buy this.

I've used a liquid screen protector on my Samsung phone. I put it on as soon as I purchased it nearly 2 years ago and its as good as new and still nice and smooth to use.
Same here... I have been using the Qmadix products for years on my entire family's devices with no issues after much abuse.

Hey Aaron, your videos are awesome. I wanted to add to this liquid screen protector thing, while I learned a lot from this video and it did change my mind on the protection they provide. The first time I used a product like this was on my new S10 and the back is also glass. I'm not one for bulky cases, so using this liquid on the back glass (seeing as they don't make "back glass protectors" lol) did very much help the scratches from normal ware that I noticed with previous phones. Just a side note pro that I haven't heard anyone mention yet.
P.S. I don't think the factory (Samsung) protects the back glass the way they protect the factory screen.

Would you recommend buying a liquid screen protector to coat a tempered glass screen protector? How well does the Bertha Test translate into drop tests? Will a liquid screen protector coating on my regular tempered glass screen protectors give me a noticeable increase in durability against drops?

No, with the edge it's really hard to find a good one IMO. What did you end up getting? I did a glass wipe, dropped my phone, and was glad to have the coverage to get a new phone screen through Qmadix

Actually your review helped me on my note 8. I can apply this nano screen protector, then add a cheap but effective film screen protector to resist scratches, and voila! tempered glass really suck against these samsung edge devices...
Is there any harm reapplying another liquid screen protector? I obviously can't see or tell if my original coating is worn off or not.
Finally, good test. Not just smashing with hammer or dropping your phone.

I'd love to see you do this test on the tempered screen protectors using BlackFire's SiO2 automotive spray!! It would be awesome to know if it provides the exact same protection as the small quantity you get in these packages for mobile devices or not. I've done a lot of research.. but I can't get the answers I need from people on these products.

So I have a Motorcycle Z2 Force and want to put on a liquid screen protector, then a gorilla glass, followed again by liquid. On the Moto screen there's a very small "pinhole" towards bottom of the screen, which I believe is the microphone. So,I was wondering.... is the liquid glass going to cover it or seal it off, which would block or muffle the output after application?
Nope. It does not effect the microphone camera or speaker

Isn’t oleophobic coating applied to resist fingerprint(s)/skin oils? Wouldn’t the water drop test prove its hydrophobic properties?

So I have an s9+, which is glass on both sides.. I don't use cases! And I don't want a lip on the side, or anywhere, from a tempered protector.. If I use a liquid protection, do I have to be careful not to touch the metal around the edges, and if I do, will I be able to feel the glass over the metal??
will this kind of liquid impact protection work on top of the shellrus sapphire glass to increase its impact protection? Since the steel ball cracks the sapphire glass at 80-85 cm, maybe putting this liquid coating on it could provide your phone both high impact and superior scratch resistance?

I've just got myself a Samsung s10 and after watching your video I decided to buy and apply the liquid to my screen plus a gorilla glass on top of that, now I'm thinking if I should I use it on the rest of the phone too? (the back of the phone and both front and rear cameras)

amazing im impressed since you shared exactly my taughts and i research when they first came out but didnt have your tools to colaborate my theory. Your level of communucation felt like a lecture from a PHD profesor and i agree my theory was nano on phone, nano on glass protector ultimate mix... but why dont manufatctures implement it on new devices. based on your review I'd say if you don't want a good protective case with raised edges to protect the screen, this screen protector is a must.

Can you use on Zfold? I took the inside screen protector off because this is the second time it bubbled up. Its out of warranty because it over a year old.

Would dropping the phone on the ground, face first (like, sidewalk cement), be different impact than a ball on a certain area of the phone? Would the ball test actually be comparable to real life drops in terms of protectiveness. Also what breed is your dog?
The dog appears to be a Schnauzer or a Schnauzer mix, recognizable by its wiry coat, bushy eyebrows, and beard. Schnauzers come in three sizes (miniature, standard, and giant), and the dog in the pictures seems to be a smaller variety, likely a miniature Schnauzer

RhinoShield should release an ImpactProtection protector fused with a tempered glass one. It will feel better and have better scratch resistance. I guess it’ll be really thick though.
Can you add the liquid glass to the ImpactProtection protector?
