Storyline:-
One of Vijay Tendulkar's most controversial plays, Sakharam Binder was first staged in 1974. It tells the story of the book-binder Sakharam who takes home a series of women after they have been thrown out of their homes by their respective husbands.
In return for providing shelter, Sakharam exploits the women by getting them to perform household tasks and occasionally, for sexual favours. The play opens with the seventh woman Laxmi who is docile and timid by nature. After exploiting her for a few days, Sakharam throws her out and brings the next woman Champa who is flamboyant and head-strong. Things get complicated after a few days when Laxmi returns. What follows is a succession of unexpected events which culminate into a dramatic end.

विषय समजावून घेण्याची बौद्धिक ऐपत नसावी. आजपर्यंत खूप ऐकलं होतं या नाटकाबद्दल.आज पाहिलही. मी पाहिलेलं हे पाहिलंच नाटक.मात्र पाहिल्यानंतर इतके दिवस का पाहिलं नाही हा प्रश्न मनात आला. सर्व कलाकारांचा अभिनय उत्तम आहे.सर्व जण अक्षरशः भूमिका जगलेत. सोनाली ने साकारलेली लक्ष्मी कायम लक्षात राहील.

या नाटकाचे नाव लहानपणापासून ऐकत आले. नाटक कधीही नाट्य गृहात पहाण्याची सवय लागली. पण सर्व कलाकार उत्तम काम केले . सयाजीराव एका म्यानात दोन तलवारी कधीच राहू शकत नाहीत . पूर्वी च्या काळी ह्या अशा गोष्टींचा लोकांना सवय होती. काही म्हणा नाटक उत्तम 🙏🙏🙏

समाजात अश्या वाईट प्रवृत्ती आहेत हे खरे आहे मात्र या नाटकात अति अतिशयोक्ती दर्शविण्यात आली आहे बाकी सयाजी शिंदे, सोनाली कुलकर्णी तसेच सर्व सहकलाकार यांनी केलेला अभिनय उच्चतम प्रतीचा आहे असे मला वाटते!

I watched it on 21st February 2024 for first time at age 32. Hats off to all writers & negative role players right from REHMAN & co. of PYAASA & PRAN era stalwarts, till LEGEND NILU SIR & now SAYAJI SHINDE and many more. It's specially because of such incredible artists that protagonist's character becomes more heart-wrenching for the ages. Salutes to all negative role players in both reel & real world. But only REVOLT & STRONG RESISTANCE is the only way to end such corrupt minds of every era in this ugly world.
