From a punk that played in former bands, I think what's lost in this is the vocal melodies that followed all of these progressions. It's not necessarily the music, it's the message. Whether it's political, heartbreak, or everyday life... that's what has always resonated within punk. It's why I fell in love with it. Same as 50s rock & roll. Keep the music simple but write and sing with purpose.
I usually see Blitzkrieg bop or I wanna be sedated on the Ramones section. Seeing I dont wanna go down the basement was a pleasant surprise. Or should i say dream hehe And also Cretin Hop
That was fun.... as a guy from the era, one of the hallmarks of early punk were chord progressions (if you will) that never resolve.....the Agent Orange-Bloodstains is a perfect example... while you are waiting for the resolve, the drums kick in, pogo ensues.... LOL... everybody knew that it was hysterical, but put on a face of deadly serious, after all across the street was Disco and we had already lived through harmonizing geeks like Boston and Styx.... punk rock put the danger back into rock....... great times....
Just so you guys know, that walnut sg is a Epiphone. You dont need a Gibson to sound great. Tone is in the fingers! (Edit: i have nothing against epiphone, i have 2 of them and there great)
Absolutely true. I feel tone is 93% your hands and 7% gear. I've never had a Gibson because, well - they are too damn expensive. Since the 90's I've had squiers, knockoff budget guitars and then epiphones. Epiphones are great for the price and easy to mod if that's your thing (for me, yes). I can't say that I've ever had a bad one.
Not only an Epiphone, but a $150 bolt on. I have the same one, and while it doesn’t take on any of my Gibsons, the only thing I’d change about it are the tuners, if that says anything. (I’ve changed all of the electronics, but not out of necessity.)
Man, you achieved the perfect tone for every song, the playing is flawless, the guitar sounds amazing, the songs chosen are great... 10/10! Thanks for this!
Bloody marvellous! Looking forward to the second episode of ‘proper punk’ riffs - The Ruts, The Skids, The Adverts - could be a very long series. Cheers, mate!

I'm a big Bloxsy fan but hadn't seen this one. Gonna jot all these down for a punk playlist. Awesome stuff. And you got a guitarist from Stiff Little Fingers commenting! Leyenda.
Great work! Long time punk fan and have at one time of another been into 90% of the bands you covered. Your tone was pretty spot on. The sound you had on hybrid moments sounds sounds very accurate. Pretty vacant as well. I like technical guitar playing as well but there is just something about the buzz saw sound of distorted down picked Barr chords 👍🏼🎸
Great Video! I really like all your choices especially songs from classic punk groups such as the Ramones, and the Clash, and not some 90's pop-punk groups such as Blink-182, and Green Day!
Finally a punk guitarist on youtube who plays barre chords and has a tone that actually sounds like a punk tone. So many guitarists on here only use power chords and shitty metal-distortion.
As original Stiff Little Fingers guitarist, great to see us represented!
