    Something I love about 70's punk is, besides the production and the dirty sound of the instruments, its mix between the rock n roll of the 50's, the British and garage bands of the 60's and the glam rock of the 70's with full distortion in the guitar.
    P.S: Sid Vicious may be the most remembered bassist of the band, but I think Glen Matlock, the original bassist, deserves great recognition: Many of the band's iconic songs had a great contribution from him, starting with Pretty Vacant's intro

    • @AJCzarkowski
      @AJCzarkowski 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree with all of that... Fyi, Glen Matlock plays bass when Sex Pistols occasionally have reunions.

    • @Wongwongwong10000

      @@0000song0000 I understand that Sid plays bass in "Bodies", and in some of his live performances; in others his bass was disconnected or someone in the background played for him (he was so stoned that he died without realizing it).
      Sid, in spite of that, is more admired than Glenn by several punks due to his self-destructive character, even though the second mentioned is one of the ones who composed the band's hymns (which made them what they are today).

    • @marcusbondi
      @marcusbondi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I saw them live with Matlock & it was then I realised what SP really were before the hype & Sid & fashion took over: they were a rough tough group of lads from the local pub with FU attitude - but most of all with GM on loud backing vocals you got a real DGAF bovver boy yob chorus going, that was really heavy. Cheers

    I like that you get right to the riffing. No ridiculous extended intro or wanking about. BOOM! Just face-melting riffs one behind the other. Ramones old-school style. Nicely done!

  • @derin111
    @derin111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +68

    Every one of those riffs is as fucking brilliant today as the day I first heard them in 1977. Jonesy did a great job on them back then...you’ve done a great job on them now young Sir! 👍🏽

    • @turntablesrockmyworld9315
      @turntablesrockmyworld9315 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, to be fair, I wouldn't call them "brilliant". They were very basic barre chord and power chord progressions with some memorable choruses and some Chuck Berry-copped flourishes, and together with the vocals made for some great punk songs. But the real star is actually the producer who really put guitars all over the record. Without the production, the songs would haven't have had the same impact at all.

    • @derin111
      @derin111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@turntablesrockmyworld9315 "brilliant" doesn't have to equal "complicated" and the fact that 47 years on they are still instantly evocative and recognised by so many people makes them brilliant in my opinion!
      If you weren't around in the UK when this album came out; where The Eagles (fucking) Hotel California had been number one for weeks and weeks then that's another thing that might make it difficult to appreciate the brilliance.
      I recognise every song, riff and chord off Nevermind...!

    • @chasbodaniels1744
      @chasbodaniels1744 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @derin111 Well said my friend! The Pistols were like a breath of ... fresh(?) air.

    • @turntablesrockmyworld9315
      @turntablesrockmyworld9315 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derin111 I was not conflating brilliant for complicated. I was commenting on your hyperbole. The riff progressions are memorable but not "brilliant". I am a child of the 70s and the record is one of my all time favorite records, but I know its limitations. There are creative flourishes, but Jones' has said most of his licks were rudimentary Chuck Berry, and even the memorable opening guitar of Holidays in the Sun was directly copied from The Jam. What I did say was that the producer is the real star of the record as he correctly focused on the guitars-all-over kind of sound on the record that makes the album what it is and was.without him, the other takes lacked the power of the guitar. It also came out at the right time for that kind of record to be made. It also had some clever, relevant lyrics from Rotten and Matlock. They were a group of individuals that came together at the right time, place, and era to make a great artifact.

    • @derin111
      @derin111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Perhaps you're American or something and don't use the word "brilliant" in the same way as we do in England?

    Did You No Wrong is a great riff, the little lick he plays in the verses is genius and makes a mockery of the “they couldn’t play” myth. That aside NMTB is probably the greatest rock album of all time.

    Steve Jones the real daddy of punk,, he done the bass arrangements too yet all the credit goes to John Lydon.

    Nice playing, you captured Steve's tone and feel well. I saw your guitar and pedal listed but what amp did you use?

    • @bloxsy_
      @bloxsy_  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I didn't use an amp on this. I just used a Joyo AC Tone pedal played directly into GarageBand but I've now started using a Boss Katana.

      Thank you. Only two knobs on this one - volume and tone. It's one of the cheapest SGs you can get.

    This is awesome... but if you want to feel true chills up your spinal fretboard, follow this up with the actual “Steve Jones plays sex pistols riff” - it has just 22k views in 7 years lol
