    very helpful, thank you. I just watched a video where the girl kept trying to fit the cover on needless to say she didn't see the two arrows that are suppose to be lined up. Very informative especially about the arrows and having to line them up.

    My 10 y/o son watched the video with me prior to purchase. After we got our pot home, I was having trouble with the lid. This is when my son said "Mom, remember the video, match the arrows!" Thanks for the helpful video

    thanks so much! I bought an IP over a month ago, finally took it out of the box yesterday and there's no paperwork, no manual, warranty card, nada. zip. nothing. Folks in my fb instant pot community told me youtube was way more helpful anyway, lol! I appreciate you taking the time to share your insights :)

    i live in australia, i like the idea of the stainless steel cooking pot, many of the same pressure pot seem to have the teflon coated pots and many reviews complain about the inner coating peeling. i have used s/steel all my life, it is the most forgiving material over aluminium when i burn my cooking. thank you for a great video. roy

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Yea, I used Teflon my whole life and only recently started getting into Stainless steel. The other downside to teflon minus the coating peeling eventually is that you have to be really careful with what kitchenware you use with it. If you use any sort of metal (fork, spoon, spatula, etc) it scratches the teflon and ruins the surface. It also doesn't get as hot as stainless steel can get. The upside is that it is a lot easier to clean.

    *I love the instant pot so much! I have made quinoa, chicken, chili, asparagus **MyBest.Kitchen** and yogurt in it so far. The only thing that didn't work great was the asparagus. I cooked it for 1 minute and it was still overdone. It is a timesaver and uses much less energy than my gas stove.*

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that's easy. Just hit the button that says "Manual". It will go to a default number (I think it's 30 minutes), and then you use the Plus or minus buttons to add or take off more time.

    Considering on buying one and thank you for such a great tutorial. have you tried making yogurt? what is your favorite recipe to cook ?

  • @harryballz6358
    @harryballz6358 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    LUX is not only missing a yogurt button vs DUO the LUX only has high pressure cooking "only" and since many recipes call for "low" pressure cooking that leaves all that food out. That is the biggest difference between the 2.
    Also the high psi is only 11.6 vs 13-15 psi on other makes meaning less pressure equals less flavor.
    The intantpots are not high quality built either but should be for their selling price by all means but are starter pots simply aimed at beginners, in reality it's marketing at its best selling these, no doubt!!

  • @michaelkessler129

    I received my Instant Pot about ten days ago. I ran the water test and it worked perfectly. Next day I followed some TH-cam videos and cooked a pot roast that came out wonderful. A few days later I prepared everything, seared and started a beef stew but the pot wouldn't pressurize. I tried everything including making sure the pressure valve was clean and the seal was properly seated but nothing worked. I ended up finishing the stew in the oven.
    I should mention that when I received the Instant Pot I noticed that the cover over the pressure valve I'd seen in the TH-cam videos before I ordered mine was missing. So I eMailed the manufacturer who responded promptly and told me the design was changed and that cover was no longer needed. So it seems that problems with this pressure valve is not something new.
    Bottom line is the Instant Pot concept is very seductive and I'd really like to have one but it seems there is a lurking failure in the design that I'd rather not have to worry about. So I eMailed Amazon and they had UPS pick mine up today for a refund.
    I wonder how many others have had failures after initial success(es). Should I consider myself lucky that mine quit working early-on rather than after the warranty period expired.

      I ordered my 8 qt instant pot in July, but I just tried it out yesterday. I did the water test, it worked fine. When I tried to may pasta with meat sauce, it wouldn't pressurize. it took me about 15 minutes of removing the lid and replacing the lid...it finally started to pressurize. I don't know what I did, it just worked. Today, I tried to cook chili, same thing happened, took multiple frustrating times removing and replacing the lid. finally it worked. I think this one may be defective. I really love it when I can finally get it to pressurize, but it's way to unpredictable and again, I'm not sure what I actually do, to get the lid on correctly. Any suggestions?

  • @dontwanttojoingoogle1799
    @dontwanttojoingoogle1799 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Much better than the manual. Thank you.
    Question: When you go from some cooking mode to the keep warm mode (so when the timer starts to count up) is the pressure fully released or partially released?
    How far into the keep warm mode is the pressure fully released? In other words, how long does it take for the pressure to be released?

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In response to your first question: The pressure is still unreleased, so at that point almost all of the pressure is still inside the pot.
      In response to your second question: If you leave the vent in the closed position while the pot is in keep warm mode, this is called "natural venting". The length of time depends on how much liquid is in the recipe you cooked. Generally speaking, if the pot is full, it will take 30-40 minutes to release (more if you had a pot full of liquid such as a soup). If you're cooking something with minimal liquid it can be as little as 10-15 minutes.
      Thanks for watching!

    Does it make noise while cooking?? It's in the sealed. Position but steam and a bit of water is spewing out. I turned it off to release the pressure going to check the seal and vent position and try again. I don't think it should be making noise

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it does make a little noise. Kind of like air blowing, or a whistling sound, but it shouldn't be that loud. When you release pressure it's going to shoot some liquid out, that's totally normal, but if you think it's making a funny noise you should definitely make sure that rubber seal inside properly positioned .

  • @LottieSue
    @LottieSue 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This video was only about the pressure cooking function and in that mode you have to add 30 minutes to the entire cooking time, 15 minutes to heat up and 15 minutes to cool down. Correct? How do I know which is that latest model. I went to the Instant pot site and there's not information on the release dates.

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      30 minutes is a good approximate, though it depends on your recipe. I've noticed that sometimes it takes longer than 15 minutes to heat up, especially if I have a lot of liquid in the pot. In terms of the cool down, most of the time you don't need a full 15 minute cool down (depends on your recipe). Once the timer is up, you can open the release valve and it's ready to eat once all of the steam has released. The time it takes to release the steam also varies. I've never actually timed it, but that's something I should look into.
      As far as I know, the 7in1 is the latest model, as all of the sites selling Instant Pots said that it was the latest model. However I just did a little more research today and it looks like they came out in 2017 with a newer version of the 6in1, which includes a larger display and a "cake and egg" cooking program.

    Would you still recommend the Insta Pot? I have been looking at air fryers, convection ovens, and the insta pots. I'm not sure which is best. I want to cook fast and healthy. Is there a tray of sorts that you can put in the bowl say if I wanted to cook chicken and veggies without them touching? Do you still use yours? Thanks! Also your video was very informative.

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I would definitely recommend it. I still use mine, and I think it's great for cooking fast and healthy. They do make steamer trays you can buy to steam things, though I'm not sure how it would work if you were simply trying to separate veggies and meat. I imagine you could put the meat at the bottom and your veggies in the steamer tray, but I haven't seen it done myself.
      Yes! I still use my instant pot. Granted, like any new gadget you buy it becomes less exciting to use over time and I don't use it as often as I use to, but it is a very useful kitchen appliance that I would definitely not want to be without.
      When it comes to convection ovens and air fryers, i think it really depends on what kind of food you want to cook. Instant pot is great for things you want soft. Soups, stews, meats, veggies etc. If you want them to be crispy or have a glazed covering (such as ribs or chicken wings), you can cook it in the instant pot but then you need to finish it in the oven. So I don't really think one is better than the other, it really depends on what recipes you plan on cooking. If I were you, I would look up some recipes for each appliance, and don't focus on which recipe looks the tastiest because some recipes are a lot of work that I would never actually attempt, but see which ones have the recipes that you would actually want to make and get you excited about cooking and go with that.

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Robert, yes, all of the cooking done on the instant pot is done with a self timer. If you hit one of the preset cooking modes it will automatically countdown and stop cooking, then go into "keep warm" mode once the timer is up. You can also manually set the timer.

    My pot says burn on the display although I used the recommended amount of liquid

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is there anything stuck on the bottom of the pot? Are you cooking anything thick? It's never happened to me, but I've read that sometimes if you're cooking with a thick sauce or gravy the bottom layer could burn and cause the "burn" notification on the display.

  • @reginamcloughlin3614
    @reginamcloughlin3614 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watched this video. I put all the stuff in the pot and put it on pressure cooker. Manually tried to put it on 10 minutes as recipe called for. I couldn't get it past 4 minutes, as it would jump back to zero. (Not sure I'df it should be on low or high pressure.). So I cancel and try again. Same scenario. Then I push pressure cooker again and just let it do its thing on the "on" position. I can hear it doing something. Next thing it says is "burn". Turned it off. This thing is scaring me, what should I do?

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, first thing I would check is that the sealing ring is in place, and that all of the wires are attached properly. Next I would check the manual to make sure that you're properly setting the manual time. But if all that is fine, it sounds like maybe your instant pot got damaged at some point, maybe during shipping. Contact the manufacturer and get it replaced. I've honestly never heard it say "burn" in all the time I've been using mine, that is really scary. Let me know how it turns out, I'm curious to know what the problem was.

    I don't understand the heating up process? I thought the whole idea of this thing was that you could cook something fast but I turn it on and chose my setting with the time only to wait 20-30 minutes for it to heat up. This seems like I could make things faster another way. So I must be doing something wrong. Or is this right? Thanks

      Unfortunately if you're cooking a large pot of something, it does take quite some time to heat up. You are not doing anything wrong. The speed of it is that you can do so many functions in one pot, and because it is electric you can just push the button and let it cook without having to worry about it as you would on the stovetop. You also get results akin to a slow cooker minus the 4+ hours that a slow cooker would take. Also, if you aren't cooking a full pot or something with too much liquid, the heat up time is much faster.
      With that said, if you are just cooking something simple with a lot of liquid such as a vegetable soup, it would in fact be faster to just cook it another way. While the instant pot is great at making meats tender or infusing a broth with many different flavors, when I am not cooking anything that would be helped by the pressure of the instant pot I just use a regular stovetop pot and that ends up being quicker and easier.

      Let's say you want to have 'beans'.
      Well, with an InstantPot you do NOT have to soak beans (but do wash them) and two hours later, dinner! Just one example of a timesaver by SEVERAL hours.
      The InstantPot can do a lot - it's a tool with a certain purpose, to pressurize foods from plants to meats and does it well.
      What the it does not do well is pasta, but it's really not meant for it even if some want to keep trying to do what is meant to boil openly...

      Can you make a video on how you use many functions in one recipe? I'm not really understanding this concept.

    i just figured out to put the lid on upright on the handle now i need to figure out the spoon holder and on another site someone said some thing about a cord holder and i have not found that. no one ever shows these features.

      Spoon holder and cord holder?? I didn't know that those existed, let me know when you find out how it works.

      the spoon holder is the little notch on the right side towards the bottom but the spoon they gave me is to big to fit in it.

    Hi, is the Instant Pot a suitable size for single serving meals for one adult?

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a little bit on the large size for making single meals. I'm typically cooking meals for just myself, but I always have a lot of leftovers. I'll usually refrigerate one or two servings to eat the next day or two, and then freeze whatever is left. Makes for a great easy meal to just heat up the frozen servings on those days you don't have time to cook.

    Manual sucks...no where does it mention on how to set the Vent/Seal gadget when making soup. I hope i can get that from you as i am making Lentil soup at this moment with the vent sealed.

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea it's pretty easy all you need to do is make sure that the seal is turned to the right direction.

    • @noel888
      @noel888 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That answer is vague it could mean to the right or what is suppose to be the 'right' direction..sealed? Are we losing something here by "lost in translation>"

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at the nozzle from the top, there are two markings. One says "sealing" and the other says "venting" If you want it to be sealed, have the nozzle pointing toward that direction.

    It's NOT Everything! What does the display say after "on" is Done? Hoe do i know when to press "pressure"? Gotta head to another tutorial now.

    • @TheInstantPotWayofLife
      @TheInstantPotWayofLife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      After "on" is done the display will show a number. That number that will show is the number of minutes of cooking left on the timer.
      The "pressure" button just switches the setting between low or high pressure. You basically never need to press it, I've never pressed mine once. The only time you need to press it is if you're cooking with a recipe that specifically tells you to use low pressure.
