Hi John, I’m really enjoying your content. As a new woodworker it’s great following your journey.
If you’ve got any time of compulsion for further prototyping, I had an idea while watching this video. If you replaced the tenons with some thick round stock (say 40mm) with a saw tooth pattern on one side and weighted or sprung locking piece, adjusting the jaw width would just be a case of rotating the arms 90° to disengage the lock.

Excellent design! I have wanted to build a Moxon vise for a while. Your design is beautiful and I think it’s an easy enough project that I could build. Thank you so much! Lauren

This is absolutely fantastic! I have watched countless videos on different moxon vice designs and builds trying to pick one that is a balance of functionality and affordability with no clear front runner for me. I really like John Heise’s(sp?) build as it’s beautiful and unique in design but the time it would take a woodworker with low to mid-level skills (such as myself) to build is daunting. Plus the fact that my workbench would have to be rebuilt to attach it. And here you come with a super functional, practical design that is not only affordable with minimal hardware, but straight forward and simple enough to make reasonably quick? And portable? With the option to attach it permanently to a suitable bench down the road? Outstanding! I’ve only seen a couple of your videos but this one made a lifetime subscriber out of me. Thank you and really nice work!

Very nicely done John 😁. You deffinatly applied the "it will be alright in the end" advice to that whole project. Well done for the final design, I'm sure there will be versions of this all over the world before you know it. Top job 😁. Stay safe 😁👍.

It just gets better, John. I'm slow sometimes, so I just realized (realised) that on board a sailing vessel this vise would be extra handy and durable because of no metal parts (well, maybe some SS screws). Raised on the Gulf Coast, I'm sensitive to stuff rusting.

Excellent idea my friend! I’ll be making one for myself as soon as I can get some more stock in.
The clamps you’re using to hold it down are the same as mine. I have used Paul Sellers advice for modifying them.
You can size up some wood to fill the gap in the bar, making them more stable as well as adding some strength.
Also some light file work on the threads make them run a lot smoother, and then some pads in the jaws to protect your work.
Have a look on the Paul’s channel for the video. 😉
Keep up the good work, I’m liking your style mate! 👏👏👏

  • @brettmciver432

John how about using the same clamp device to clamp the vice to the bench? Have the board that is the back bit go all the way down the wall of your bench and have a cam underneath the bench? Hope this is clear? Then it's easily removable and you don't need the metal clamps to fix it to your bench?

Awesome! I have no issue watching multiple times to be able to document what I need to do, but, before I do, I must ask, have you any print documents (or electronic) available? If not, could I send you some once I finish? Cheers! -woodprobie (Vancouver, Washington, USA)

So I'm sitting down to build this vice, getting my plywood ready, and looking at the plans and realize that I can't find height measurements for the vice jaws or arms!
Any chance you could share the height of the vice jaws off the table and the height of the arms?

@@JohnMcGrathManInShed yes, I saw the plans (you also included them in the description here and in one of the comments), and I've looked them over, but I cannot seem to find that measurement.
Sorry if this is out of the blue. If it's not something you can get around to, don't sweat it. I'll make an estimation based on other measurements.
