This is one of the best ideas I have seen in a while. This is a quick, easy, versatile, and affordable solution especially for those who are not primarily woodworkers and don't need to invest in a proper carpenters vise.
the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Personally I think if you are on a budget, which to be fair most of us are these days this is a great idea and work around until you can afford the real thing. excellent idea. 👍
Oh very clever….I like it. Could also use metal box section with a lengthways slit. Thank you!😁 suggestion….on a long run, make exit spots to fit and remove the clamps without needing to run them to the end!
Sehr gute Alternative zum Schraubstock! Klasse Inspiration, vielen Dank. Hätte ich dieses Video früher gesehen, hätte ich den Schraubstock nicht gebraucht.
Great idea. It would be easy to mount a second unit lower down to add more clamping pressure on long boards held vertically; might also stabilize the workbench itself.
Brilliant! You can also reverse the direction of the clamps and have them hold table legs at either end if they are running a stretcher or apron between them.
2.0 development tip: Make a slot on the inside too! Insert the clamps with the stem inwards. Now they’re obstructing you. 2.1: instead of long handle to screw the clamp tight, have a fixed stop on the inside (= saw off the handle) and now drill a hole on the outer default fixed bracket and put an eccentric handle there. This will squeeze the part much quicker than screwing a handle and doesn’t take so much space. Simplest way is to slaughter two clamps and move the fixed brackets over to those two for the bench vise.
Been putting thoughts together for my first bench build, and this solves one of two problems, just need to make it with height adjustment above the workbench. Thanks for posting, without darft musical background, though showing the completed vise at the start would help explain. Love the version with the wide front jaw too, Cheers.
Not a solution I would jump at, but still a very clever solution! I'm sure I'll come up with an application of this technique that works for me some day!
@@franklloydwrong6997 Yeah I would definitely only use this with short clamps and I would add something at the end of the clamps (foam or leather or whatever) because I would also stab myself with this. But when you're not using it it's not an issue so I think it's still a decent cheap/easy alternative to a Moxon vise.
It's decent for some odd clampings. But the carpenters vice is better for clamping over and over quickly. As well as strong tight , no movement hard hitting needs. Still a very useful system.
That is a very good project table vice is good but sometimes gets in the way and the side table vice that people show simple to make are only simple to much qualified woodworkers with plenty of room in shop. Yours is simple to make and easy attach and use. I'm going to try your idea. It might not be good at first but it will certainly help me improve on my final make great job
For the investment, it’s a very good result. It is unquestionable that this ‘vice’ will hold things that a traditional vice cannot. Personally, I would use clamps with a bigger clamping surface.
@@mrniusi11 In American English, the noun 'vise' refers to a gripping or clamping tool. As a verb, vise means to force, hold, or squeeze as if with a vise. In both cases the 'British' spelling is vice.
I don't think it replaces a carpenters vice, but in conjunction its a great idea. Especially when you're working with sheet goods that don't particularly like staying put when held in a vice. You could even use some cheap quick grip clamps
Great idea, but a specialist carpenter vise will place the clamping force over a greater area of the workpiece, be stronger and less likely to damage the workpiece.
@velcroman11 you could always use some cauls or just add another piece of wood in between the clamps and the work piece if you are worried about marring it.
Excelente proyecto muy bien desarrollado y mejor ejecutado , una especie de guía para los sargentos magnífica , gracias por compartir tanto ingenió , un saludo cordial y por supuesto un gran like desde Narón (Galicia) 🤓 🔝
I didn't really like your idea on another video about the honeycomb top bench, but this idea is very clever allowing one hand to hold the project, and the other one to tighten the clamp instead of the requisite 3 hands otherwise. Very smart . . .
I was wondering how it would work out. That's a good idea and it could be made out of steel for welding which is what I'm already planning THANKS SIR. Now on the wood one you made what would be the weight limit?
Second viewing: This is so darn smart…and cheap. You can keep all those 120-200 USD Moxon hardware kits which are a shameless ripoff…I’ll go with this one thanks!👍
Good concept. Clearly it holds a piece of wood. But showing it's holding power as you did some actual work on a piece would have been helpful to your presentation.
New video th-cam.com/video/GtQIqM6CtMg/w-d-xo.html
😊👍👍
Every now and then somebody comes up with something actually useful. I truly give this a thumbs up!

Congratulations to you. It's by far the cheapest and best solution in place of a vice.
Ingenious! I need to install this on my bench for when it’s needed, it’s needed! Thanks for posting you video!
Personally I think if you are on a budget, which to be fair most of us are these days this is a great idea and work around until you can afford the real thing. excellent idea. 👍
If you're on a budget you probably won't have a table saw for starters. Most people get a vise long before that.
It isn't often that an idea is so immediately useful. Thanks.
This is amazing! Its even better than a vise, because you can adjust this to any size.
Just made one from scraps in the shop, works great! Thanks for posting this.
Great idea! I'm going to make the clapping vise tomorrow for my bench.
What a money saver thank you. Great job. That’s what I call thinking outside the box.
Absolute genius. Now on three different bench/work areas.
Oh very clever….I like it. Could also use metal box section with a lengthways slit. Thank you!😁 suggestion….on a long run, make exit spots to fit and remove the clamps without needing to run them to the end!
That is a very good idea. You could refine the idea and make the vice out of steel (making the vice stronger) for a very reasonable price.
We humbly bow our heads to the Master of Ingenuity! Good, no, correction, VERY GOOD job. I even would prefer this in stead of a vice.
Excellent idea! Very cheap and effective clamping method. Thank you for sharing!
Top 😊😊👍
No es muy útil, sobre todo si tomas en cuenta que ésta posición solo es útil para depilar, entonces estorban las prensas.
What a brilliant idea, this is going on my workbench today! Thank you sir.

Thank you. This is brilliant. I have scraps and I have clamps just like that. I might return the vise I just got. I haven't mounted it yet.
OMG!! So simple, yet ingenious!! Must have!! I'm gonna borrow the idea and add one to my bench today!!! 😁😁😁
Fantastic innovative ideas. Your Idea implementation is super. You have perfect brain. Keep innovating and post it.
Brilliant! You can also reverse the direction of the clamps and have them hold table legs at either end if they are running a stretcher or apron between them.
Thanks for the idea. I built this today. Works Great!!!
I like this idea/concept, you could also make a holder for your shop vac hose and many other attachments.
GREAT job! !! !!!
😊😊
Brilliant, off to my wood hoard, next project, thanks, this fits my setup perfectly
Awsome idea. Thank you. I am just getting in woodworking this adds an extra set of hands. Thank you.
Very nice, I'll have to make one of those. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas.

if nothing else this is a great way of making your own T track. nice one. never thought of this.
Great idea! Much better than the 4” bench vises that the big box stores offer.
Been putting thoughts together for my first bench build, and this solves one of two problems, just need to make it with height adjustment above the workbench. Thanks for posting, without darft musical background, though showing the completed vise at the start would help explain. Love the version with the wide front jaw too, Cheers.
Wow never to old to learn, great idea 💡 👍 👏 😀
Fantástica idea y muy práctica. Permite no sólo apretar, si no también ajustar la distancia. Es un gran aporte ! Gracias, desde Chile 🇨🇱
Amazingly straightforward & practical!
Thanks for sharing. Making the T-slot removal from the table would offer additional functionality for clamping.
Excellent ! Simple ! Efficace ! Économique ! Bravo et merci. Je vais faire ça sans tarder
Not a solution I would jump at, but still a very clever solution! I'm sure I'll come up with an application of this technique that works for me some day!
The minute I rip my thigh open on the clamp ends is the time the whole table gets tossed in the burn pit
@@franklloydwrong6997 Yeah I would definitely only use this with short clamps and I would add something at the end of the clamps (foam or leather or whatever) because I would also stab myself with this. Pretty cool. I’m making one for my outfeed table tomorrow! Thanks!

Built one this afternoon to aid in a cabinet project. Love it.

I just made one based on your design. Great Vid, thanks!!
Great idea, I'll definitely put this on my workbench. Thanks
Good idea. Double purpose; also extends the table somewhat

Gotta have it ! That is the "bee's knees " for certain !

Cheap and practical, it can be made from scraps and placed anywhere!!!!!
Great idea, but a specialist carpenter vise will place the clamping force over a greater area of the workpiece, be stronger and less likely to damage the workpiece.
add an extra strip of material to spread the pressure.
And less likely to damage your clamps. It is a good idea for quick setups though
Yes, this method could damage to work piece BUT, “beggars can’t be choosers”, right.
@velcroman11 you could always use some cauls or just add another piece of wood in between the clamps and the work piece if you are worried about marring it.
@AdrianWilliams763 to each their own
Usually I scroll past these things, Seen that, been there, bought the T shirt
I got to say though, that's clever.
You might want to add a few holes on lower side so dust doesn't bind the clamps😊

Wow! That's a great idea. Thanks for posting.
Nice! Very nice! Perfect for the mobile bench set up...
Another, Why didn't I think about that? Inexpensive, quick & easy to build.
I didn't really like your idea on another video about the honeycomb top bench, but this idea is very clever allowing one hand to hold the project, and the other one to tighten the clamp instead of the requisite 3 hands otherwise. Very smart . . .
Come to think of it, can you make a version that is detachable? That would be soooo SuperDuper Nice! 😁
I was wondering how it would work out. That's a good idea and it could be made out of steel for welding which is what I'm already planning THANKS SIR. Now on the wood one you made what would be the weight limit?
For sure need to make this for my workshop 👍👍👍👍
Good idea, but I’m making one with wider boards, two slots and four clamps for more stability if needed. (And who doesn’t need more stability, eh?)
Хорошая идея. Дешево и сердито. 👍👍👍👍
what is this little drill bit? which to drill in front of the screw
Second viewing: This is so darn smart…and cheap. You can keep all those 120-200 USD Moxon hardware kits which are a shameless ripoff…I’ll go with this one thanks!👍
Bravo non sapevo come fare ti ringrazio con le tue idee geniali
I’m going to build one this afternoon.
Thanks!
Very creative and easy to make! Good job!
Brilliant idea and execution
Might try this in place of a Moxon vise for dovetailing, kit prices have gotten outrageous ….
Simple, dynamic, cheap, brilliant
Hello very interesting video can you give the dimensions of the pieces of wood thank you for the answer
You, sir, are a 'kin genius!!
You have a gift, very nice.
Genius idea, will make one
You should demonstrate using a hand saw or chisel or plane on something in your vise to be sure it will hold up.
Super Idee, werde ich auch so umsetzen 👍
I really like this idea. Thank you!
superb simple and effective, What do you want for nothing, your money back ?
Really cool idea. I will make one like that.
Super, genau das nach dem ich gesucht habe.
Danke. 🤗🤗🤗
Top marks. Simple yet very effective.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Complimenti veramente un bel progetto
Very cool! Creative and simple!
Superb, absolutely great idea!
우와 생각도 못한 클램프 사용법이네요 좋은 아이디어 감사합니다
Genial felicidades por compartir saludos desde México 😜🖖
Il fallait y penser. Trop génial. Merci pour ce partage
Wouldn't it be easier to use the clamps with the overhanging edge of the table?
Top of the class - 10/10
Excellent Idea, thank you for sharing
Brilliant - I'm going to make one of those
Una sugerencia poner las madidas buen projecto y tambien algo util en la carpinteria saludos
Nice idea thank you you just got a new subscriber!!
Are those sheet rock screws?
Nice idea and obviously works well. But having those clamps stick as far as they do would be a PITA and so I’m Out.
Excelente trabajo, funcional y simple......mis felicitaciones
Simple but ingenious.

Great idea. Thank you for the instructions.
