    Only the very best and the very respected receive the kind of reception given to Fred by the Maharajah and his servants. This speaks volumes for the esteem that Mr Bear has earned from so many, for so long. Fred Bear was a legend in his own life-time, and remains one still. Bravo indeed! What a man.

      @CLOUT Wrong! You ignored the part that the native Majaraja and his father had their skinner do over 800 tigers. Local rulers brought in white hunters when they needed a better hunter to rid them of a hard to kill tiger, or when they wanted to learn another method of hunting. But they controlled tiger hunting for the good of the people.

    • @pantherfelis6506

      Human expansion and poaching for chinese traditional medicine markets in China is the main reason for near extinction of Tiger form the wild.

    Fred bear not only hunted, but much like Teddy Roosevelt was a avid conservation advocate. He filmed hunt not to boast of his kills but to share with western "civilized" people that what he's trying to save. Most people then didn't care what happened in other lands because they where not globally into the economy.

  • @thelonerider9693
    @thelonerider9693 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    The comments remind me that many people do not consider things in context. Many animals considered endangered now were not always so. Moreover, in the past, predators like tigers and lions sometimes killed significant numbers of people in rural settlements. I understand someone arguing that one should not hunt a tiger today, given the current context (though as a thought experiment, if tigers were as plentiful as deer, would you change your mind and be okay with it? If not your reason is no reason at all). But what I cannot understand is people badmouthing folks from the past without spending a wit thinking about the context in which they lived or acted. This goes beyond the silliness of, if you are firmly anti-hunting, why are you even watching a video like this unless it is to vent your spleen. It is about intellectual honesty and fairness. From everything I have read about Mr. Bear he was not just a cool guy but a genuinely good man. Of course I'm biased because I shoot a traditional bow, but come on. If you are going to judge people based on one thing out of context imagine what equally ignorant and biased future generations might say about YOU?

    Honest question. Given that tiger populations have increased in recent years, should it be legal to hunt them again with a strict quota and a limited number of tags per area per year? In my opinion, if they legalize tiger hunting, the parts used in Chinese traditional medicine should be burned, only very old males should be bagged (leave mothers with cubs alone!) And the countries where the hunts take place should be northeast India 🇮🇳 due to high density of 🐅, Russia 🇷🇺 where tiger and Amur leopards have somewhat increased and Nepal 🇳🇵 where poaching of tigers and rhinos is low.

    • @nipponmukherjee8609

      If hunting starts hunters will sell the tiger products to China as they sells in thousands of dollars..and every so called brave man will try to hunt as much as they can...and govt greedy of money will allow that ...and the rest of the population will be wiped out within decades......there were 1 lakh tigers at 1900 and came down to less than 10,000 in India just because of hunting...

      And you are misguided. I suppose you can look the other way if a tiger or lion, or similar large carnivore eats a human being? That is what you get when you somehow equate that people are no better than animals. Of course, the whole notion of human "stewardship" isn't taught anymore in the liberal colleges because it's politically incorrect to inject that Christian notion into the dialectic.

    • @sunaJH

      I have to admit the same, being a traditional bowhunter myself-200 people to hunt this Cat, herded in front of Bear, who made a stunning shot btw-I was more impressed by the cat myself;
      takes real courage to hunt big cats for one, and knowledge, but its more like an army hunting the critter, now that I see it. Frankly its not possible to bowhunt a big Cat in the ordinary sense, without getting 'et, they can hear like no human can, walk silently and appear right before you in a blind.
      I was disappointed to see this magnificent creature get stomped by the elephant, but I suppose it is understandable from the locals who often live in fear, and the elephant.
      Personally I abhor any hunting that isn't carefully controlled by biologists-modern hunters are much smarter, and must not exert too much pressure on game herds, but if the herd needs culling then hunting is appropriate with a good kill, the fact that some of those hunters call it trophy hunting is irrelevant, even if many consider it distasteful.
      I don't think I would care to hunt any species that took a gang of people to hunt myself, that's not what bowhunting is to me
      Different times

Poundage is not needed as much as shot placement. P.S. I can't figure why anti-hunters watch these videos...do they really think their ranting will change any hunters minds? Do they think we will be impressed by their lack of understanding? They are funny.

      Mike Misch the 105# he was referring was a restriction for dangerous game in Africa. These restrictions have changed over the last few years with advancements in the technology of today's compound bows making them much more efficient than those of the past. Now, it is mostly based on kinetic energy rather than draw weight. I'm not sure how recurves factor in since I have only used a compound in Africa and never taken a recurve out of the states.
      This link has all of the restrictions for several countries in Africa:
      www.bowhuntingsafari.com/Africa.html
      You can click on the individual countries and it will give you each one's restrictions if you scroll down and click "Gear Restrictions." Zambia still goes by draw weight but with arrow weight factored in.

    • @paulkersey2424
      @paulkersey2424 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Misch I don't mind hunting animals which we eat, but we don't eat Tigers. And mostly hunters are old men who are not functional in their bedrooms anymore. They have to compensate somehow by trophy hunting. Can you stand face a Tiger or a Lion inside a cage and hunt it coward. You hide, bait the unsuspecting beast, then shoot with a rifle, there is no honor in that. Trophy hunters should be hunted. Go see a doctor and stop killing innocent animals. Again I am talking about Trophy hunters not hunters who kill to eat, much respect to them.

    Nothing wrong with tiger hunting, or any sport hunting, for that matter!If you take a selfie with your kill, that's called trophy sport hunting!And who wouldn't like to bag a tiger with a bow! The ultimate sporting adventure!You get the head and hide, and the villagers get the meat!Everyone wins, even the tiger, since hunts like this are necessary to keep animal populations manageable and healthy!Believe me, tigers are no where near extinction, and that's because of hunters!Like the man said, hunters are the conservation movement, and that includes trophy hunters!

    Sports Hunting in India has been banned since 1972, due decades of unregulated and unsustainable hunting done both by the British raj and Maharajas from the princely states of India to the wildlife and tigers. Fun fact There are many different types of Maharajas like Rajas, Shahs, Nawabs and etc... All from 500+ different princely states of India. Keep in mind each of the Maharajas have names based off of what state or region their from in India.

    People who troll these video's and spew venom and hatred about hating tiger hunting......always live in safe places where tigers don't kill their family members. Ask some of these people who have tigers hunting their village area's about how they feel?? Same in Africa. It is easy to sit at starbucks in los angeles and whine about hunting. Yet when a cougar or bear wanders into the suburbs they are the first to cry for its removal............

      The requirements for Africa actually vary by country and have changed a bit in the last couple of years. It's not so much based on draw weight as it is kinetic energy. Some still use draw weight but have reduced the poundage. This link should provide some examples...
      www.bowhuntingsafari.com/Africa.html
      You can click on the individual countries and it will give you each one's restrictions if you scroll down and click "Gear Restrictions." Zambia still goes by draw weight but with arrow weight factored in. They require a 70# draw weight with a 550 grain arrow for leopard and lion,and an 80# 700 grain arrow for buffalo and hippo. The reductions are to accommodate today's modern compound bows which are much more efficient than compounds of the past and definitely more so than recurves.

    While their was a mass slaughter with a mix of poaching and unsustainable unregulated trophy hunting, there was also rapid habitat loss of wildlife. It was mostly large and vast tracts of forests in India that were being cut down from colonial forestry practices imposed under the british raj. Because of mass deforestation, forests were cleared to make way for commercial reasons used as cash crops such as tea plantations or the expansion of agriculture that had more land needed to be cleared for cultivation. Infastructure expansion of railroads, roads, and the demand for wood that had to get met in England, because they had already depleted their natural resources all contributed to shrinking of India's forest cover from 50% to a ridiculous 24%, Sadly.🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🧐😲🙁😔
