  • Head Bearing Replacement & Adjustment, Motorcycle Steering Notch Fix - Honda CB750 | Part 25
    Here's what I used:
    Bearing driver set - ebay.us/tzFClU
    Long punches - ebay.us/Nhh3jI
    Ball pein hammer - ebay.us/FDivNc
Steering head bearing kit - ebay.us/bj5KIF
In this video, I take you through the replacement of the steering head bearings on my CB750 K0 restoration project.
The head bearings on a motorcycle only move a little bit, so when the wear it is usually felt by them becoming notchy and rough when you are turning them. With this bike it felt like the steering wanted to self centre. Whenever the steering got near to straight ahead, it felt like the steering wanted to pull itself to the middle.
I wondered if this was because this bike had been used on very straight roads so that they head literally only worn in that one very specific position. Typically when I stripped them out they looked fine. This is usually the case with head bearings, the wear that causes them to be rough isn’t visible to the naked eye.
I replaced this set with tapered bearings instead of the original ball bearings. They are supposed to be better in lots of ways, but for me they are a lot less fiddly than playing with ball bearings :)
I use a bearing driver to replace them, and explain why the freezer is an important part of your toolkit.
Whenever I am playing around with one of my projects, I always try to wear good overalls like these ebay.us/2LOCDG and gloves ebay.us/gcA4XD
