  • How To Adjust Head Bearings Motorcycle | Honda CB750 Loose Steering | Part 14
In this episode, I check and adjust the head bearings on my CB750 project bike. When I have been moving the bike around I noticed that the head bearings were very loose.
Here's what I used in this video:
    Bike Scissor Jack: ebay.us/6ibQdf
    Hammer: ebay.us/FMo4FX
    Punch: ebay.us/VdUnqW
This bike has been assembled from a variety of parts by the previous owner, but never to the point of it being a going bike. I am just solving all of the obvious problems at the moment to make it a rideable, not necessarily far, bike. So some of what I work on is just to make it useable, not a full repair, and certainly not a full restoration.
The head bearings are so loose that I was suspicious that parts may be missing! So I needed to get the front wheel off the ground so that I could check them. I use a new simple bike scissor jack, which I had obtained to use on my bike lift.
When I first tighten up the nut on the steering stem it seems that I may be right about parts missing. However, as I investigate further I find that things are better than I thought. As I prepare to strip them I find that there is still a lot of slack on the adjuster nut, and they do seem to be reasonably smooth side to side, so it doesn’t seem that there are parts missing. Once I adjust them up they do seem quite usable.
I know it would have been best to strip clean and regrease the bearings, but if I am keeping and improving this bike I will eventually replace the head bearings, but for now, they are good enough for the bike to be used. So this is a bit rough and ready, but if you have a similar bike adjusting the bearings like this will give you more time to consider your options while using the bike.

Hi . Great setup for working , I'm lying on or sitting on the ground . Would that adjustment improve the feeling of crab walking, I dont think my bike is steering true .?

Could help, but maybe the wheels aren't in line, or maybe the forks ar twisted. Good luck.

Thanks . That's what we've been thinking the way this bike has been from the start .
      Cheers .
