I love that your inventory has a "Compulsive Counting" button, a somewhat lesser known property of Vampires in myths is that they will count things compulsively, so you can throw a pile of rice or coins to distract them as they must count the objects. The Count from Sesame Street is a play on this, as well.

Quick addendum to my statements in this video : There is indeed durability on gear. I got ahead of myself. However the good news is that the durability goes down incredibly slowly and weapons are repairable with simple materials so realistically it shouldn't be a problem unless you purely pvp a ton in which case durability goes down by a large amount per death. Somehow I missed the durability during my few hours. Sorry folks!
Kinda weird to put in a feature that doesn't really affect anything (since the effort and resources to repair the gear will be negligible), would've better to either make it harder to keep using the same weapons or remove it altogether.

I agree completely if you are buying something in early access you should be getting the founder's pack, because you are helping int the founding of the game, but also how come they already have extra DLC for a game that is not even out yet? that's just a bad sign.

@@swallowedinthesea11 with all due respect, you're 14. There are serveral areas of the world, even in the United States where a stable internet connection is not readily available where the only option is satellite or nothing.
On top of that, there are several instances where you experience interruptions in service, or the quality of service has degradation and interruptions due to line issues.
As someone who lives I. An area impacted by frequent blackouts and internet service outages, I enjoy games that I can play offline while spectrum fixed their equipment.
21:05 fun fact looks like it's not a popping issue but a line of sight one, the golem got out of your LoS and so disappeared, basically meaning that you can't cheat with your 3rd person view, pretty cool

you get roofs when you start building an actual castle... which comes after you learn to make buildings from stone instead of wood.. the wood fort is just your initial beginning... after that the mist things are for gardens and such which must be outside...

Day 1 DLC makes me automatically suspicious of their business tactics
Splatt, when you can see the "F for feed" alert that means you can actually execute your enemies you just cancel the channeling and kill the enemy without feeding off them.

The day 1 cosmetic sits really badly with me as well, since the reason Battlerite died was because they pulled somewhat of the same stunt. (they wanted to make an arena-gamemode, which they did, but it was supposed to be free, but then suddenly they wanted to charge for it instead.) So I feel like they're really treating their consumers like payers, more than players.
i didn't buy it just because of that reason also no offline mode for solo players is a shitty move...

In a movie you paid full price for?
At 21:00 it was not a glitch. He left your line of sight. He went behind the rock. You can tell based on the greyish fog that is behind the rocks that moves as you move.

The day 1 cosmetics, company being majority owned by tencent, and online solo are pretty big red flags.
That being said....
The game apparently can be played solo offline, and it really does look cool. ARPG with base building looks great and is done well. Really taking the vampire aspects into account and makes them interesting. I am really torn on whether to buy this game, or not.
Is it true you can play it offline? I find it hard to purchase because of the need for connection.

I believe the "Dedicated" server is what you are looking for. It'll create a custom server on ur local box. Then u can be the only one to connect to it... hence, offline solo, but it'll require a bit of Tech Savy ;-)

I gotta say, I was skeptical at first, but man am I having a good time on a PVE server. The PVP stuff seems to only be good with a group, lots of horror gank stories.
Kept getting jumped by the same group, couldn’t go any further so just jumped ship to PVE and it definitely changed that experience quickly !
Wait till you learn the combat mechanics and the rest of game before you go into PvP, it'll make the experience smoother. If you get good enough, you can 1v2 early on rather easily...And don't play on the hard core PvP servers, that's just a headache.
Destroying the environment is one of the most important things! Literally everything you hit gives you resources. I am not sure why you say there is no incentive to do so :O

I like the idea of this game, it feels kind of like the entire sidequest line of the Vampire part from Skyrim that they decided to just make the entire point of the game. The mechanic about blood purity and it's different bonus's is unique and it seems to have enough cool ideas to make itself special. Which I am totally here for. I'm gonna have to give this one a try.
I started on the PvE server to get a feel for the game and its mechanics...Definitely enjoyed my first day.

I have nothing against day one cosmetics, as long as it doesn´t interfere with power balance I am fine. One thing that could be said in a negative manner is that allowing one thing often leads to another, so I do understand the complaint.

I've bought this yesterday and already sunk a good number of hours into it... for those that are complaining about the 2 available dlc's - these are just cosmetic packs and have no real gameplay features... they do not make your character any stronger, just makes them look cooler... and the founders pack adds a bunch of different castle cosmetics, but you really don't miss out by not getting these... For anyone that is trying this out for the first time, I recommend playing the solo option, and going into advanced settings and increasing the resource drops as I feel that the crafting still needs to be balanced... it also pays to check the controls are to your liking - I know some people don't like to use middle mouse button/scroll wheel for some interactions... the tutorial gives you a good starter to get into the game, but as you get further along, you are expected to figure stuff out on your own to complete the tasks... if anyone is playing and gets stuck, get me a message and I will see if I can help at all... and I would recommend this game... 🧐🧐
I really enjoy the customizability the game gives you with the servers. Being able to tweak just about anything about the game is gonna make it a lot more enjoyable for a lot of people.
And i agree, the crafting cost for stuff seems just a tad bit too high, at least when playing solo. I assume it feels fine when playing as a group of 2-4, since i had the exact same experience with Valheim.

If you didn't realize stone golem is a stone, so using a sword is ineffective but using mace will be very effective
It wouldn't have mattered. The stone golems are level 36 and should just be avoided at low levels. You can use them to farm resources if you're feeling brave.
I love Splat. Talks constantly with both useful and ridiculous commentaries then "I like to let the game speak for itself". That is not who you are and we love you for it!
26:08 Oh, good. You actually upgrade your gear instead of replacing it. I always hated survival games that use the replacement method and will not allow you to break the equipment down. I end up with boxes of useless equipment or have to figure out how to destroy it.
it's 50/50 upgrade/replace, but old gear is good for followers.
Later on you can break down the old things too.

Yea, cosmetic DLC on early access release is a bit questionable, I'll give you that. Like, your game isn't even done and you're already starting to nickel and dime people.
I like a certain amount of supporters packs. Like, I bought the packs for Shortest Trip to Earth. BUT. I hate exclusive ones. It's demotivating to not be able to buy them after the game has launched. It's like going into it knowing you are missing out on something from the start. Cosmetic packs are kinda hit or miss. I usually have to be really enthusiastic about the game to pick those up at all.

Additional Weapon Info:
There are Swords, Dual Wield Axes, 2 Handed Maces, Spears, Scythes and those anime-like arm-blades every 2nd asian MMO seems to have.
The weapons all get up to two weapon skills that dramatically change how you fight compared to each other.
Combined with up to 2 magic abilities from the Blood, Undeath, Chaos, Illusion and Frost schools as well as one of the two ultimates each of the school has you can actually customize your playstyle rather extensively.
The thing is:
First Weapon Skill comes with the Copper tier of weapons I believe and 2nd Weapon Skills on the Iron tier. And upwards of course.
Likewise you don't start out with all the magic skills and vampiric powers like Wolf Form or Charm... you actually earn them by beating bosses and then draining the life out of them like the good lil' blood-sucker you are.
So, YES, at first it plays very similar to Conan Exiles, Valheim and the like. Basically crafting survivial game.
But once you start progressing the game turns into an actually decent vampire experience with occasional bouts of "Gotta hit the cursed iron mine for half an hour to fill my inventory with ores".
Also the game has alot of nifty little vampire details for those that like vampire stuff.
Like actual garlic and silver allergies.
Not even kidding, carrying silver coins will damage you if you have very low or no resistances to silver.
Garlic exposure weakens you considerably if you let it stack up to 100 and then decide to fight. You will get wrecked like that.
Likewise fighting during the day is dangerous as you have to stick to the shadows while dodging attacks and if the shadows are cast by that tree you just accidently cut down as collateral, well there goes your safety from the sun. Stuff like that.
$40 worth of day one DLC in an early access game is insane. But as much as I'd love for Steam to implement an "EA games cant release DLC" rule there are legitimate times when the devs need more money for a project. It's a tough issue to handle.
Yeah that was actually one of the things that made me keep away from the game for now. I'll wait till it's fully released.

@@GameTimeWhy Nope, they're both skins/cosmetic. The founder's pack has gargoyles in addition to cosmetics, but they're just aesthetic pieces. Nothing related to gameplay.

When I first saw the game, it gave me the Blood Omen vibes and I was really hoping the game would be similar...

Really like the visual style of these, and I love what they've done with the Blood mechanic. But Day 1 DLC for an early access title is pretty gross and, aside from the blood mechanic, it's pretty bog standard.
I think the problem is calling it dlc... plenty of early access titles sell cosmetics. Not saying its good or anything, but people are getting the wrong idea about what "early access dlc" actuall is.
I absolutely love this game and have put a lot of time in it already. I can't wait to see what the future holds for it.
a little coment about the first 8 minutes. there's more then 4 types of weapons. you unlock more when you reach iron.
and another difference between them is the weapon skills you get starting at copper tier.

The same thing happened to me with competitive shooters, I began to turn into a very agressive person and that agressiveness lingered until today. So I avoid them at this point only indulging when I'm with friend playing for laughs
If there's anything in the whole video game industry that can turn you into a frustrated, stressed-out maniac - it's competitive shooters, and it gets even worse if you're good at them. It was different when I was a kid playing CS during high school breaks, nowadays my whole body's shaking while I'm playing FPS PvP games... That shit just can't be healthy.
I really get the multiplayer turn on to this game, but i truly hope they make an offline mode, the solo private server is ok but hate logging off when i need a break. This game would easily be an outstanding standalone solo RPG.

Well, the game is certainly starting strong, on more than one account...First, the survival A-RPG with vampire system looks neat and engaging, I like the living castle heart mechanism and I hope it goes beyond the decay system and you can "feed" it different kind of blood for various effects in your castle. Then there's the day 1 dlc and forced online single player, for one, I think the day 1 dlc should have been at least split, with some included for the early access buyers/supporters, and single player should allow in the options to host yourself on your own rig. If somehow you can switch a save from single to multi then I guess the online has a value, idk though.

Personal preference, I just check out of anything to do with vampires. Anne Rice and Twilight have both contributed to the general eye rolling I do when anyone brings them up.
Not a fan of day one DLC either, cosmetic or no.
I've been playing it solo on my own hosted server (apparently offline is coming), and having fun with it. I really like how my vampire is animated, especially how her hair moves when she runs. It's been a good time but needs some QoL changes (like a vanity cam for zooming into our character for screen shots).
It is not even day 1 DLCs.
It is day -500 DLCs as they sell DLCS to the game that is still not completed and in early access and while they have no complete game they already got complete DLCs for that game - a HUGE RED FLAG.

I definitely want to be able to wake up like that. I want to rise on vortex of power and land gently on my feet all dressed and ready for action. My way is the exact opposite and it sucks.
Devs actually just posted about offline play on reddit. It should be added in a couple of days.
I played a decent amount of this game through beta, I would say the comparison to Valheim is pretty accurate, actually consider this more polished. I like the combat, crafting, and the blood system. The special mobs you briefly mention give you access to different things. The first one is an alpha wolf that gives you access to a wolf form that you can use to get around the map faster. The next is a guy in the mines that unlocks the stone crafting system and a couple combat abilities, there was I think 8-10 on the list when I last looked at it. Eventually you can enthrall slaves which you can send on missions in your stead. I think it's a steal at $20 for everything that is in the game, but the cosmetic dlc's are shocking expensive. I have a decent system: GTX 1070 (8gb) , FX-6300 (6 core 3.5), and 24gb RAM, I haven't had any issues running it but I also haven't spent any time on a private server yet.
TL;DR: 20 hours or so in, I think it's well worth $20. If you like Valheim you will probably like this.

28:01 I don't mind it initially. What drives me nuts is being hours upon hours into the game, and I am still doing the stuff I was doing at the start. If the game will require me to still use the starting resources, I would like a way to eventually automate it.
There are servants you can unlock eventually, I haven't unlocked it yet but I'm on the verge. I just have to figure out how to craft or collect an item.
Get the correct flooring, it helps a ton.

The essence you can craft at the blood squeezy machine you unlock pretty early on, and the unsullied hearts "can" drop from any humanoid enemy, altho they seems to drop more from larger than normal humans and bosses.

Some enemies will actually fight each other, like golems, undeads or creatures vs humans. Some attacks like the golems can actually destroy rocks and trees so they will farm those for you if you can dance around them.

The whole stake thru the heart thing was to just hold the vampire down to the ground in thier grave, if you're up and running around it's really not going to do anything.

I wish the map could be randomized. Open world crafting games like this really benefit from not being able to muscle memory everything.
2:45 it's the same in Conan exiles as well. Or used to be at least. Haven't tested it lately. But you need internet to start the game even in solo mode. It does continue without any problems though if you lose connection

So I am not totally sure about the game but I am a little conflicted on the whole, first day DLC thing. I can see the argument being made that they are using the cosmetic DLC revenue to offset the price of the overall game. Like they may have had to charge $30 for the game but instead brought it down to $20 so that more people get to experience the game and the people that have the money and that care about appearances, can pay the higher price for the DLCs. It does make for a more questionable future for the game itself though. Especially if they start making DLCs that have an impact on gameplay. Again, I don't know much about the game itself, it certainly looks good though.
Oh man, i really want a vampire game with character creation, but as u said, i'm also more of a solo or singleplayer person. Guess ima go back to Vampire Bloodlines or Code Vein again or any of Elder Scrolls games since u can become a vampire there.
This game has a lot of promise to it.

Man. This looks cool. Alotta possibilities with the concept. Like a human faction. That can't tell if you're a vampire unless combat has started, with a setting to limit pop numbers of each faction.
And an option to convert defeated humans to vampire with player consent or their human character is Perma death...
There is a human form, where npcs will trade and interact with you and you can convert/thrall human npcs to serve as base defense/hunters for items

Glad to see you cover this. Let's just hope the devs stick to their game for once and do not focus too heavy on sellable DLC items. The game needs a lot of items that you can acquire by playing the game, as it is no f2p title.
I don't mind day 1 cosmetics because they likely weren't made well in advance. They were made by the art people while programmers were polishing up the product or doing final touches. It's basically a way to pay your art team instead of letting them go near the end of a project. And before anyone says it no, just because they can create cosmetics doesn't mean they can code, bug fix, and/or beta test. Some can, alot can't.

There's no offline play... some said it's on the way, but unless that's implemented, especially since some will want to play solo, it's a dealbreaker.
This game is awesome, I've been playing PVE, but PVP will be epic when I get to it.
