Fully agree with the stance on the DLC. This is the sad point we've reached in gaming and frankly "early access". It's no longer a case of "help us make a game", but rather "here is your unfinished tech demo in the guise of a game, pay us to keep making it." There is NO VIABLE EXCUSE to have DLC for a game/program in early access, as there are only two feasible scenarios in which it would have been developed in. A: It was already initially a part on the game and you've merely cut the assets out and are now selling them as a separate add on entity. At which point you're cheating the consumer. B: You've deliberately pulled time, resources and man power away from development of an UNFINISHED GAME (which you've ALREADY ASKED MONETARY REMUNERATION FOR), and using it instead to build DLC. At which point you're still cheating the consumer, because they've paid to support early access development specifically for you to focus on FINISHING THE F-ING GAME! This is like buying a car and them telling you they won't turn on your AC, or access your radio unless you pay an extra fee. It's already installed and you've paid for the labor and materials when you initially bought the vehicle, they just won't turn it on unless you pay... The game stutter thing is a classic Unity issue relating to garbage collection I believe. You can see it in practically every game that runs on Unity. It can be rather annoying in faster paced games when it makes you freeze for a moment while in a fire fight or something lol.
It can be avoided by careful programming. For example, if you use object pooling and leave behind less garbage, the garbage collector will have less to collect. Also, you can turn off the garbage collector during gameplay
You can see it in any game that allocates lots of garbage to the heap. It's pretty a basic unoptimized programming method to be allocating to the heap often enough to see GC stuttering - not a unity thing, a developer thing.
interesting, ill wait though until the honeymoon phase is done to hear all the criticism of the game to see if i want to invest my time in this early access game
I’m glad to hear you are getting so much enjoyment out of this game. It’s been a loooong time since I was able to say that about a game. You’ve made me want to check this title out. 👍
Warning if you play this on pvp PLEASE expand your base to the end of the ramp. If you don't you can and will be building blocked. Basically your neighbor can build a wall right in front of your gate stopping you from having access to your base.
I was initially hesitant because of the day one dlc. But then I figured the base £15 game had more than enough stuff to do and things to make without bothering with that. Especially as I just intend to play solo on my own local server. I am up to gear lv 35 and am grinding the upgrades to the copper weapons etc. IMO it’s a damn good game for the price so far.
@@zippy2538 A lot of fun although I did tweek a few server settings to make it a tad more solo friendly (and because if I want to relax while playing!). You can tweek the bejezzus out of it when making the server and in the server config file afterwards to fine tune the difficulty. Be warned there is a fair chunk of grinding/RNG in recipe drops but overall it's certainly worth the money.
if devs/studios/publishers get away with charging money for people test-driving their game-in-development, they will do it. [x] check if they get away with charging full price for people doing that, they will do it. [x] check (looking, for example, at M&B2, "just" €50 after 2 years in EA). if people are stupid enough to pay for (pre-)release-day DLCs, they will provide those, with a grin on their accountant's face. [ ] check...?
Great game, and have nothing against to pick standard or Founders pack(DLC) for little more when you get it. Just helps the devs out. Fun and solid game even now and will be fun follow it and see how it progress. :)
Me too. there's SO little good vampire games nowadays, so I wanted to really help and support the devs with this one. the game is already super cool and it will grow even more for sure!
Been playing for a week or so now after buying it based on your review. I'm really enjoying it.. it seems to have a good balance of everything.. there are definitely areas for improvement from beta through to full release, but definitely "worth a buy" right now.
Commenting on the DLC part, you need to keep in mind that the artists that done main part of the game, have alot less to do, where the programmers still have alot to do...
I actually don't mind the DLCs. This dev has really been trying to launch a successful game for a while now. The first one was Bloodline Champions. I loved that game, it was excellent. Then there was battlerite. I loved that game too, it was arguably better than their first. It was kind of a sequel to their first game. They were all really great games but didn't really see great success. I can't imagine the resources they spent on their last two games that they really didn't see a return on. V rising is a clone in respect to its combat. If you played the previous titles from the dev, you can see some of the bosses have similar mechanics, and abilities and even sometimes look like the old characters you could play in those games. The abilities are somewhat identical and everything. What I'm getting at is they finally found a formula that will garner some success and they really do deserve the money they are trying to get with this release. With that being said, they still released the game at a respectable price. $20 is not much to ask for this game. If you want to though, you can spend a lot more. I really love these devs and the games they have made, so I am happy to get some extra cosmetics to support them. Support your A+ devs and let the AAA devs know where they can stick it!
No way, not an excuse to use bad and greedy practice to run a game. Terrible way to look at it. “They failed before so now they have a decent game they are chopping up content to make the most money back” that’s actually disgusting more than anything. If a game isn’t completed, how is it expected to release dlc, when the base content isn’t even finished yet. People like you are the reason that this type of content even exists
@@a_turn_of_events8390 I didn't say they failed because they didn't. The games they made were great, they just didn't get the success they deserved. Plus the dlc is cosmetic bs you don't need. It's simply there to support the devs, which you should do if you enjoy the game. The only people being greedy are those expecting 100s of hours of game play without wanting to play more than $20. If you wanna be cheap, don't buy the dlc. You don't need it. If you wanna support good, hard working devs, get the dlc.

I practically hate survival games but I love vampire themed games (and movies) so I bought this and oh boy this is a good one. Survival done right. My only gripe is that bosses are insanely hard to solo and I lack friends to play with. I had to edit my private server specs and manually tweak boss values down to progress but its really good thing they included such settings.
Totally with you on the DLC thing. Buy the game for 15 quid, add (pre-release?!?) DLC, price suddenly doubles. You can probably guess what I didn't buy.
I've been waiting for a good vampire game for long time the last vampire game I have played was the legacy of Kane games and soul reavers which were excellent can't wait to sync my teeth into this game
I like the game but agreed 100% with you on early access DLCs - the means to fund the game's development is early access, that's the entire point. If people want to support the devs more they can buy multiple copies of the game. It's scummy to have such overpriced DLC on day one of EA.
I was quite intrigued with the game. Looks like a good early access game. Then you mentioned the DLC... and I was like c'mon. Pretty shady to push DLCs in early access IMO. Personally, I am going to wait this one out. Thanks for the review as always Mack!
The DLC is just cosmetics. It's like PoE. The game is super cheap compared to any other new game. I don't have a problem with them putting out pretty stuff to subsidize costs. It provides literally no benefit. I'd rather pay $20 for the game instead of 20+ for the game and cosmetics I don't care about. Let people that want to go above and beyond to support a great game buy the extra stuff to show support.
@@patrickv1080 This may have done it for me then! Is the DLC purely cosmetic as well? I feel like that's a dumb question, considering that is what it sounded like in the video.
Was on the fence about getting this, but if Mack likes it you bet your bottom dollar I'm getting it. and you know what, stuff it I'm getting the DLC to look cooler than all my friends.
Resource grinding gets better as you progress. I’m at the point now I send a servant out to raid the copper mine. He comes back with about 900 copper and random other loot from that area.
agree Mac, game has potential, but currently no single player offline or mouse sensitivity, I would play with you PVE if you want, just need to hunt for a good offer on the game ^^
So I'm hoping that in the next Dracula movie the count gives up pursuing his victim and starts chopping down a tree ;) This actually looks pretty damn fun but I'm still having a great time with Lumencraft. Vampires burning in the sunlight is the biggest misnomer there is, in the old novels they were severely weakened by the suns rays to the point where they become feeble but they never immolated in daylight. That's one of those conventions which has become long established which is part of the character traits of a vampire.
IMO the only DLC for an early access game that is acceptable is "support the devs" kind of DLC where you pay extra to support devs you like, and extras like OSTs, artbooks, etc. all "extras" that involve the game itself should either come in / with the base game while its in EA, or wait until after full release to offer more to the fans that want more. none of this scummy, shady back alley bodyshop shit that strips a car (aka the game) into its bare essentials and then sell the rest of it in pieces.
uuuum, gonna be honest, the ''DLCs'' are perfectly in line, they are literally just support packs to look cool and support the devs in developing the game, so I am gonna disagree on that front
The game becomes impossible around GearScore 35. You can't kill the bosses due to insufficient gear, and you can't get new gear without killing the bosses.
Mac, I've gotta say I've never gotten a bad game from anything you've said is "Worth a buy" . But I just couldn't get into valhiem. Looking forward to jumping back into v rising and giving it a go.
The only thing preventing me from buying this game is the lack of story, I am more driven by story telling than improving my character. Otherwise the implementation of the various mechanics seems really well done.
You should give it a try. What you said is completely valid, but most people who do not normally play this type of game is having a blast. For me it is the community building, rivalries, and the gameplay. It all comes together has smooth experience that was not expecting.
Let's hope you make there all in one piece... I wouldn't bet on it ;) Well, it's 2022 and I'm still playing "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly", how much low can the gaming industry fall to? Who knows, but the lows keep getting lower and lower. This V thing looks interesting, I hope it doesn't disappoint as everything else, Cheers.
i was really interested up to the point of learning they had paid DLC while being early access. i refuse to give them my money i don't care how good it looks
Optional skins, which add nothingnti the game other than to support the devs for this cheap and amazing game. The skin team doesnt slow down coding and gameplay its an L take

If you spent 2.k hours you got your moneys worth . Are they supposed to keep doing update after update with no income ?
Have 70 hours in v rising . It’s a complete game . Still trying to figure out what the early access tag is about , seems pretty complete to me . One area is blacked out , for future updates I’m assuming but it’s fine where it is honestly
@@redshift912 Fully agree with this in my first 5 hours of gameplay I was already like "Wtf how is this an early access, like animations are done, music plays when it has to, icons are all done and done well at that nothings incomeplete"
Tarkov is the perfect example of unity shitting itself
was some lag but they fixed it
Wait till the Godot Engine 4.0 comes out. Unity is going to get shrekt.
Borderlands 3 is free on the Epic store until 5/26/2022 at 4:00 PM.
BL3 is wank
@Roenie Gaming I bought it for PS4 physical copy but never got round to playing it. I just downloaded it and will give it a blast in next few hrs. 🥰👋
Let's hear the words, the words....
interesting, ill wait though until the honeymoon phase is done to hear all the criticism of the game to see if i want to invest my time in this early access game
Love how you made me into a servant , some things ever change eh ? 😂
lol
I’m glad to hear you are getting so much enjoyment out of this game. It’s been a loooong time since I was able to say that about a game. You’ve made me want to check this title out. 👍
Warning if you play this on pvp PLEASE expand your base to the end of the ramp. If you don't you can and will be building blocked. Basically your neighbor can build a wall right in front of your gate stopping you from having access to your base.
its been a very long time since i've sat down and actually enjoyed myself playing a game and not just looking through my steam library 24/7
How is it playing solo dude. Thinking of getting it.
LOL, Count Mackula.
So glad Mack is back up and rocking. Soon you will hit 300K subs!

If they keep adding new types of content, like player interaction, quests, etc, it's gonna be perfect
Happy birthday old mate. Cheers to hanging out with you for many more
if devs/studios/publishers get away with charging money for people test-driving their game-in-development, they will do it. [x] check
if they get away with charging full price for people doing that, they will do it. [x] check (looking, for example, at M&B2, "just" €50 after 2 years in EA).
if people are stupid enough to pay for (pre-)release-day DLCs, they will provide those, with a grin on their accountant's face. [ ] check...?
SLS are a scam & spy business. People will do anything to feed their addiction and developers and publishers are well aware of that.
I'm really enjoying it.. it seems to have a good balance of everything.. there are definitely areas for improvement from beta through to full release, but definitely "worth a buy" right now.
like what?
Mack will you review Old World? It dropped on steam after being an EGS exclusive.
Great review Mack, helped me make my decision. Can see I don't need to get any DLC to enjoy the game.
Can you review Arma: Reforger?
Are you planning on doing the new Arma Mac?
They are on dodgy ground releasing paid DLC in an early access game, it's a mistake I hope doesn't come back to bite them ;-)
@@a_turn_of_events8390 I didn't say they failed because they didn't.
@@Dragoninja833 This 100% What's disgusting to me is the greedy f#$(*s complaining every time a developer asks for money - they're not donating their work to charity - this is thousands and thousands of hours of passionate work - there's nothing wrong at ALL for providing an option (this is the key word) to support them if you enjoy their work. Jesus f#$(*ing christ
I was doing decent solo until that faewalker boss. She's giving me a run for my money. This is an amazing game though!
Bosses scale harder with additional group mates. Found bosses between lvl 60-70 that are much easier solo.
Totally with you on the DLC thing. Buy the game for 15 quid, add (pre-release?!?) DLC, price suddenly doubles. You can probably guess what I didn't buy.
What about strange west are you going to do a review on that?
I've been waiting for a good vampire game for long time the last vampire game I have played was the legacy of Kane games and soul reavers which were excellent can't wait to sync my teeth into this game
The words the words the words
I like the game but agreed 100% with you on early access DLCs - the means to fund the game's development is early access, that's the entire point. If people want to support the devs more they can buy multiple copies of the game. It's scummy to have such overpriced DLC on day one of EA.
Why would someone buy multiple copies of the same game?
@@skalapunk If their goal is to support the devs and nothing else, why not? They can gift it to friends so the game has more active players too.
Took me a moment to connect EA with early access. But not finishing the game and asking more for DLC is totally EA 🤣🤣🤣
What's sold should be way cheaper. If it's just cosmetic, it really shouldn't cost half the price of the game itself. Terrible value.
The only review of this game I have been waiting for.
you had a stream of this! Wherre did it go??!
What is the outro music for this vid?
Bought it after this review. Thx for the find
I love your honesty! the only guy I trust for reviews!
It's sunblock.
Happy 102nd Birthday Mack! :) Just had my 71st last Sunday.
No offline mode for single player has killed this for me.
Hope this is rectified and soon, then I'm in.
they are planning offlien mode for singleplayer its on the roadmap and one of the wisches from many users
@@patrickv1080 This may have done it for me then! Is the DLC purely cosmetic as well? I feel like that's a dumb question, considering that is what it sounded like in the video.
I love how this game is basically just copy pasting various genres we have seen million times already, but somehow this feels fresh.
Was on the fence about getting this, but if Mack likes it you bet your bottom dollar I'm getting it. and you know what, stuff it I'm getting the DLC to look cooler than all my friends.
So how did you get back without burning to death?
Are you doing a review of Arma reforged , if you are I’ll buy you some more bells
I got this last night and im so glad i did. I really Enjoy it
"That's a man trap attacking a moose."
I always thought that this would be a great concept for a game. However, in my imagination, there was a lot less tedious micromanagement.
its not really too tedius. Gathering is, but you can change the settings to make that go faster.
Resource grinding gets better as you progress. I’m at the point now I send a servant out to raid the copper mine. He comes back with about 900 copper and random other loot from that area.
@@digitalbathrx4529 That's cool.
agree Mac, game has potential, but currently no single player offline or mouse sensitivity, I would play with you PVE if you want, just need to hunt for a good offer on the game ^^
Mack Tepes ,or Mack the impaler. lol
It's amazing game!! Developed by indie developers, I'll support them and play!!
Awesome video sir. Happy Birthday!
This really looks like a good and fun game. Thanks Mack!
This looks great but one question, does it work with a controller?
It's coming to PS5..So it will
Because of the DLC i'm not even going to bother purchasing this game, such a shame really that the Devs took that approach in 'early access'
Can u play offline like on a laptop on the road?
Get matching floors for your crafting stations for more efficiency ;)
I’m sensing a major castelvania influence and I love it.
The game becomes impossible around GearScore 35. You can't kill the bosses due to insufficient gear, and you can't get new gear without killing the bosses.
Hu? I killed all bosses till lvl 40 with no problems,
Wiped once because we got ganked by enemy pvp team
Soloed all except of bandit king
@@da.de.7915 The bear is complete BS. Can't dodge his attacks and he kills you in a few hits.
Is this just a sandbox or does it actually have a campaign and quests?
Hearing you say its a great game, that is enough for me to buy.
Please consider making a PVP review. Some of us would like that before we decide about this. I would watch it despite I'm disappointed by Day 1 DLC.
This game is fantastic. Got a 100 slot PvP server running and the few players so far have been friendly. Building an arena would be cool.
@@Mieru13 No, it's jigzy.
Interesting, I saw this came out but wasn't sure but looks like I will end up grabbing this after checking out what Mack had to say (as I often do).

Mac, I've gotta say I've never gotten a bad game from anything you've said is "Worth a buy" . But I just couldn't get into valhiem.
Looking forward to jumping back into v rising and giving it a go.
I actually really enjoyed this review style with you kinda playing the game and showing it,
The only thing preventing me from buying this game is the lack of story, I am more driven by story telling than improving my character. Otherwise the implementation of the various mechanics seems really well done.
You should give it a try. What you said is completely valid, but most people who do not normally play this type of game is having a blast. For me it is the community building, rivalries, and the gameplay. It all comes together has smooth experience that was not expecting.
Well it sounds like a "wait for release" game to me, to actually get the full game.. and Happy birthday to you, love your content although I'm French
Let's hope you make there all in one piece... I wouldn't bet on it ;)
Well, it's 2022 and I'm still playing "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly", how much low can the gaming industry fall to? Who knows, but the lows keep getting lower and lower.
This V thing looks interesting, I hope it doesn't disappoint as everything else,
Cheers.
Happy 21st birthday, Mackula!
Happy 102 Mack!
Nice :) was waiting for your recommendation
why did my 1st thoughts jump to V the show with aliens with mark singer.
i was really interested up to the point of learning they had paid DLC while being early access. i refuse to give them my money i don't care how good it looks
Optional skins, which add nothingnti the game other than to support the devs for this cheap and amazing game. The skin team doesnt slow down coding and gameplay its an L take
great point about DLC some just cant be too greedy
Happy Birthday!
It's remarkable how deep this game is
