One problem with this, Ser Gregor Clegane is not in Kings Landing at this time, he is in the Westerlands. He is also one of Tywins bannerman, sworn to Tywin, it is not realistic for her to be able to call upon him without Tywins permission. But there is one of the Clegane brothers in Kings Landing, The Hound. And if they where to send a raven for Ser Gregor Clegane, why not send a raven for an even better champion, the Queens own brother Ser Jaime Lannister? But that also has its issues, Tywin would never risk his eldest sons life in a trial by combat against Ser Barriston Selemy. The most likey option here is The Hound.

they all heard him. there's no reason they'd ever think theyd need a trial to determine anything. besides, like i said, exactly what the sentencing would be. confessing was only to reduce the harshness of the punishment, not because there was any question of his guilt and they needed a confession to get a conviction.

The most logical choice for Cersei and Joffrey to face Sir Barristan in a trial by combat would have been The Hound.

In his mind, there wss no option where he would die after that, since after calling himself a traitor, he'd be send to the nights watch. But he didn't know how much of a psycho and a non-obedient child Joffrey was. Trial of Combat was probably an option he never even would have thought he needed. A Barristan Selmy vs Gregor Clegane fight would be completely different from what we saw when the red viper fought him and got his head done in. Ser Barristan can definitely take Gregor, but would need to keep his distance a bit to prevent Gregor getting a hold on him. That would make the fight a bit more difficult for Barristan and frustrating for Gregor. But in the end, Barristan would need to be extremely careful against Gregor as any misstep could lead to his death. However, Ser Barristan is skilled to the extent that he could make light work and a public spectacle of Gregor. All he needs to do is wear him out like Oberyn did. Thank the gods he's not out for revenge for the rape and murder of his sister😂

Dude, I swear that I imagined this exact scenario this very weak
    1. Ned should ABSOLUTELY demand a trial by combat. Before he execution, he sees Arya in the crowd, so she isn't their hostage. As for Sansa, she is probably doomed either way. Robb AND Stannis are coming to the capital and the Lannisters will not let her go. Therefore, taking the blame instead of demanding the sacred right to TRIAL BY COMBAT is stupid. The only way to save Sansa is perhabs winning the duel
    2. Varys makes the arrengements with Selmy, who is absolutely mad not only because he was dismissed, but the bitch queen, who are fucking the Kingslayer, teared King's Robert letter in front of him. Now he can execute his revenge.
    3. Ned demands a trial against joffrey himself. Cersei denies and then Ned demands a champion also. Enters Selmy
    3. The Crown is left without a champion, since the Mountain is in Riverlands. Therefore, Jamie Lannister it is. However, a couple of days later he is captured by Robb.
