    Really like A.J.'s take on this Smart Electric car. I am a 2013 Smart ED coupe owner and intend to upgrade to the 2017 Smart ED convertible. This is my commuting car, our other car is a Tesla S. The Smart ED is a perfect compliment to a larger long range EV. Roll on!

    it's a shame that the petrol version of this car is being discontinued in North America. I ordered the 900cc prime in the USA just last month, so I'm probably getting one of the last ones made. can't wait for it to arrive.
    nice review, very thorough.

    Got mine last week and I am very happy with it. As mine doesn't have the infotainment panel, I use my mobile phone for navigation. Put it in a cupmount holder. My car came with a radio which has Bluetooth and a USB outlet.

    Excellent review, I cannot think of a car that is better suited to being electric than this one. Would cover 90% of the journeys I do. But same issue, nowhere for me to plug it in at home or most of the places I go. And I live in a capital city!

    Great review. This will be my first car in September. With regard to range. You can drive between towns, so long as you know you can recharge at the destination or on route. For example I can get from Bournemouth to Swanage (UK), a distance of around 30 miles, I can get there and back on one charge. Similarly I can get from Bournemouth to Bath, roughly 65 miles, and can charge in Bath. So while good for town driving can be used very easily for longer distance.

    If I were a big auto manufacturer brand CEO, I'd challenge the engineering team to come up with an SUV vehicle that can store a small electric vehicle like this in the back. The SUV should be able to charge the electric vehicle and this could be useful for those travelling long ways but don't want to enter city traffic and worry about parking.
    It could also be useful for those travelling to natural parks where you want to travel quietly without disturbing the animals.

    Excellent review of the 2017 Smart EV, the best I've seen! I have a multi-part question: does it offer adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring or lane assist (i.e., a warning if one strays from one's lane)?

    Great presentation and interesting Review AJ, many thanks. Shame interior quality is not so great for such a very expensive product. Surely Daimler AG could so easily sort out that plastic unit between the seats and around the transmission selector lever. If it was a high quality, tactile product like an Apple device or iPhone, it may appeal to that sort of market? Otherwise it looks like a super little local-use mobility device for err, some people. And you seemed to have much fun driving it about! Well done, great video.

      20 grand €
      i had the 2002 model Pulse with 62 Hp I would loved to had this one for sure but the prices should more lower than electric ones if it was by government help take VAT etc away and make it 10.000€ a lot of people would buy it but that is my own opinion and the range not enough I used it in Holland going from the north to the South or vice versa on in tank 320 km distance .

  • @DrDuu
    @DrDuu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh that bad, with 35KW charger you will reach 80% after 45min, BUT the 80% is really low from 17,6KWh battery....that is not state of the art. The car price is high, especially in comparison to the Renault Zoe with the new battery of 40KWh! What the left chamber under the front cover? It looks like engine cooling fluid...

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah all the fluids in the front. Indeed the price is now relatively high comparing other small electric vehicles

    • @owenjones-wells9395

      DrDuu While I do agree. For some people like myself, a single guy in his twenties, who wants his first car to get to shops and back. And perhaps get to nearby towns to see family, this car is fine. Why drive a big 5 seater like the Zoe or Leaf, when 99% of the time it is myself driving alone.

    • @DrDuu
      @DrDuu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, but the Zoe is not really a big car...

    Nice critical review, very well executed. Now Daimler has to go to drawing board to make this car interior useful aka Hyundai Ionic EV / KiA Niro or otherwise nobody who count their own money/resources will buy or even lease this cute , but unuseful interior wise , car ... Coz to me 2017 EV car, even city car has to have fast charger, place for phone and water bottle (Door pocket) , Android auto/apple CarPlay. Also for any woman who will enter the car place for her purse ...Very cute and quirky but not well executed.

      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Revealing the impact on animals, humans and the environment by using animal skin does belong to the job.
      Also, humans can digest almost everything, but are mainly meant to eat plant-based food.
      Check out what the teeth tell you:
      vegaprocity.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/dietarydifferences.jpg
      But even if humans were meant to eat meat, then still there is no reason nowadays to create harm and cruelty. You can easily live off a plant-based diet and really enjoy life without killing others.
      Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary:
      th-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/w-d-xo.html
      Now first to the practical reasons:
      1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
      2. they are cold in winter
      3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
      4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
      5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done.
      Still, now to the environmental reasons:
      1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
      2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below)
      3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals.
      4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense.
      5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
      6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.
      Special videos:
      1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: th-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/w-d-xo.html
      2. And another one right here: th-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/w-d-xo.html
      3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: th-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/w-d-xo.html
      timecode starting 27:46
      4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: th-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/w-d-xo.html
      Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!

    Hi All. I bought my daughter a 2013 SmartCar FourTwo Passion. She rear ended a car going 12 mph and "totalled" the car. This is not something I would have expected from a Mercedes-Benz. The car is crap and I believe very unsafe. My daughter hurt her knees and her head but was not hospitalized. I contacted Mercedes Customer Support and it was virtually non existent. I will never buy anything from Mercedes again. Awful unsafe car from a company that does not care about its customers! Very disappointing. DO NOT BUY!
