Full Time RV Thanksgiving in Savannah! | Red Gate Campground Feast! (2019)

We've visited Red Gate Farms in Savannah, Georgia a few times now, but our last visit was special for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Chad's daughters drove up to spend the holiday with us! That's always a good time!
The second reason was an unexpected surprise! A few weeks before our stay, the campground manager at Red Gate contacted us to see if we would be participating in their Thanksgiving Day dinner. Just sign up and bring a side dish and the rest is taken care of. What?!? Count us in! We had planned on getting take out, but this sounded so much better!
-- Ride to Hilton Head Island
Before Chad's girls arrived, we got out for one ride. We didn't film this ride, but the destination warranted breaking out the cameras. We ate brunch at Skull Creek Boathouse which sits right on the water on the west side of Hilton Head Island. Awesome food and awesome views!

The night before Thanksgiving, we took the girls into Savannah for dinner at the Pirates' House. We've been to the Pirates' House a few times in the past, and it was such a neat place, we wanted to share it with the girls.
The restaurant is located on one of the most historic spots in Georgia and has amazing food! After dinner was a walk down to River Street for some treats!

We had no idea what to expect with a campground hosting a Thanksgiving diner. But, boy were we impressed! Red Gate Farms is also a top-rated event center, and they cater events there as well. They put on an AMAZING Thanksgiving Day spread and it was delicious!
After dinner, we walked down to the Mackey House, which is another event space popular for weddings.

The day after Thanksgiving, we took the girls into Savannah for some food and sightseeing. The girls picked a Vietnamese restaurant called CO, which was very good!
After eating, we randomly explored the many parks and squares in Savannah, ending up in Forsythe Park.
Overall, it was one of the best Thanksgivings ever and we're super thankful for this life of adventure we're able to live!

I love Savannah. The architecture is amazing and the city does a great job in keeping it as historically accurate as possible.

I grew up on the east coast of the USA as my dad was in the Navy. He was serving on the Battleship PENNSYLVANIA, IN 1941. and SURVIVED Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. After that, he transferred to Submarines, his thinking that surface ships were not a place to be. As a result of this, I was born in Connecticut, in 1945, and my younger brother was born in Key West where we lived for 5 years. He was stationed at several locations on the East Coast. And of course in the Navy's wisdom after 5 years in Key West his next duty station was in PA, and we lived in a farm house in New Jersey. When we arrived there it was in the middle of the worst winter that they had, had in 50 years and we nearly froze. Just gotta love the military!

The big fountain in the Savannah park was used in a scene of 1962's movie thriller..."Cape Fear" (the good one)🎬 🎥...it has Robert Mitchum walking by it then walking directly up to the camera...Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum and Polly Bergen...great flick!!!

Girlfriend and I stay at Skidaway Island at the beginning of this month. It was our first road trip with our new travel trailer. We had missed a Grand Design rally there by 1 day. Apparently this happens annually around Veteran’s day. We were greeted by another Grand Design own who gave us a wooden cheese tray hat had the Grand Design logo burned into the wood and came with serving utensils. We had a great time in Savannah and can’t wait to get back on the road to avoid Ohio winter

Omgoodness we are staying here at Red gate now ! We love it ! Been horseback riding and going to sign up for the shuttle tour for downtown Savannah. We are full time RV res ( newbys ) just started in September ❤️❤️❤️. Son in law stationed at hunter Army Airfield. Blessings to you guys. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Skull Creek Boathouse is our favorite restaurant on Hilton Head. We go every year when we are in town!
We just went there last week when in Oak point south campground.

Great to see the girls! and thank you for all the commentary on one of my favorite cities. We had a senior moment & married there in July 2016 (who gets married in the south in July?) Ballastone Inn was our venue, so the mention of the ballasts was spot on. The Forsyth fountain, which I've seen in Savannah & Cusco! You really did the city justice with this video. Next visit make it to Leopold for ice cream and Mrs. Wilkes for a communal round table meal.....and come to Charleston! (Red Gate is now on our list)
This year it was just the wife and I. Normally we gave about 12 over for Turkey Day. Due to Covid we cancelled this year for safety. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed 2 frozen Banquet Turkey pot pies, with a side of whole cranberry sauce. My wife did make a pumpkin pie. We will have to do this again, it was fantastic and easy. Very little clean up as well. Great video!

I just get inspired by this high quality content you produce. I bought a travel trailer in October to go camping and make the most of this short time we're on this terrestrial ball. You have a calming well thought out delivery with all the topics I need to know and destinations I didn't know I had to visit. I get to live vicariously through you in between my trips. I have two commemorative mugs from the Pirate's House. I love that place even though it is touristy like you said. I've only spent time in the bar area...LOL...but I did walk through the dining area. I agree with you...itis the history of the place that makes is fun and interesting. Great video about Savannah! I'm definitely going to check out Red Gate Farms someday.

I want to reach out and thank you both my late wife and I love watching and you convinced her to go full time rving. Sadly before we could do anything she passed away Dec. 26, 2019 pneumonia in both lungs.

If you haven't already, the haunted tours in the evening is pretty cool. Then catch a later evening drinks in a local bar or if you can wait the long lines in the city market get an ice cream at Leopold's Ice cream.
Definitely getting back on some pub style tours when this COVID thing is over!

I can't wait for your video showing off your trailers new suspension. I have driven trucks for over 40 years now and it's amazing how smooth trailers with air suspension pull. Guys!!! We go to HHI at least once a year.. Most years we go two or three times!
Scull creek is our favorite restaurant there, and honestly it’s one of our favorites anywhere. If you get a chance, go there at sunset. The sun sets on the other side of the marsh and it’s amazing!
Also, next time you are in the area, go t the Quarter Deck for dessert. It’s in Harbortown next to the Lightouse. The best Key Lime Pie I have ever had, hands down!

We live in the real Mackey house, which is their original 1916 residence. It's nothing as elaborate as the one on the farm, but it's special to us for many reasons. Glad you all had fun last year and appreciate the charm of our city.

Thanks for all the good videos you guys do. I enjoy them each week. Pine Mountain RV resort in Pine Mtn , Ga. ( near Callaway Gardens ) does the same thing for Thanksgiving. They furnish the meats and guest do side dishes or deserts.We are going there on Wednesday to enjoy the holiday. Stay safe

I love Co's. We have been to Savannah twice. I love the sushi and the bowls. Next time you go see the Bonaventure Cemetary. Very pretty and has gravestones from wars back to the revolutionary war I believe. Akso go see Wormsloe Historic Site. Mike long drive of Live Oaks and spanish moss down the driveway. There is a great mexican cafe nearby too called Jalepenos. Fabulous Marqueritas!
I think we might have had the cemetery in a previous video. We definitely have Wormsloe, but it was very brief since we didn't want to pay to drive it.. LOL
Try Crab Shack on Tybee Island next visit. Very similar to Skull Creek. Love the ambiance of both.

The Pirate House had the best Southern Food Buffet I have had, it beat Michie;s Tavern next to Monticello in Virginia but not by much!!
I thought for sure Meghan was Tara's daughter. They look so alike. Madison so her dad's girl. But Meghan looks more like Tara than her daddy. Funny. Beautiful and sweet young ladies. Bravo!
Anywhooters so glad you all had such a great time together. May you two have a happy COVID free Thanksgiving with family. Despite my parents and siblings all living within 60 miles of each other we're going to remain at our own homes. Everyone but the parents are working and exposed.
I can't wait to celebrate, post pandemic, Independence Thanksmas. Required attire is a Halloween costume. We will have Easter egg coloring and tree decorating before our turkey and ham feast. We'll follow that with outdoor games, fireworks, and dessert made on the BBQ. This one day holiday mash-up will be held summer 2021. Exact day yet to be determine. Haha.

Check out Camp Gulf in Destin for Thanksgiving! My family does all the turkeys for their dinner and has for 20yrs. Pretty cool place to have Thanksgiving in your RV.
On our way to Florida we love stoping in Savanna for three or four days or Charleston . Unfortunately this year neither is happening.

I enjoy y'all videos I'm from Alabama and also a newer sub. You should come stay at Wheeler Lake KOA if you're ever in Alabama it's close to Decatur Alabama but located in Hillsboro Alabama. It's a beautiful like we rent boats kayaks canoes pedal boat paddle boards and we also have a new Rope Park that has a jump and a zip line. So lots of fun stuff to do at Wheeler Lake KOA I work there and we would love to have you guys come visit and you could do some filming while you're there for your Channel.

That "Savannah Slow Ride" pedal thing... was there a bartender in the center? If not, you need to visit Milwaukee, WI in the summer, lol, there are several "pedal taverns"
