I love Savannah, and have wanted to call it home since I first visited in 2004. I love the trees, the rich history, plus I hate being cold, so big fan of the weather too. Don't care about shopping or sports. The main con for me is the number of homeless people in the area. It makes me sad for their situation, but also makes me uncomfortable when my daughter and I are constantly being asked for money. I'm a single mom, so it's all I can do just to be able to visit. Sadly I'm still stuck in Suburbia north of Atlanta, but hopeful I'll be able to list Savannah as my address someday.
I'm thinking of relocating to Savanna from Southern California as the homeless issue is completely out of control here. Do you know if the city and or state is going to tackle or try and tackle the problem? I spent 3 days in the city back in 2012 and loved it as well and was just hoping to get some info from someone in Georgia and better yet with some solid experience in Savanna. Thanks in advance if you have any.
Mental illness, drug addiction, poorly educated, impoverished abusive backgrounds, safe shelters… it takes massive amounts of funding and qualified, well-paid people to even begin to tackle this societal mess. Yet most people vote for extremely conservative gov’t. & hope churches & volunteers will solve this. Not gonna happen down here, darling 😏
Ft. Jackson has only been restored from around 1960,. before then it was almost hidden from few by the swampland forest and was beginning to fall into disrepair. I was born and raised in Savannah and didn't live far from Ft Jackson. One day in about June 1957 or 58 a few of my friends and myself walked trough the swamps for about a couple of miles arriving at the fort in early afternoon and remaining for a couple of hrs. wandering around inside the old ft. Everywhere there was water and trees inside the Fort and the swamps outside the fort, then we walked back trough the swamp to home we didn't want to get caught in the swamp after dark.
It's not a "couple of months" of heat and humidity. It's more like mid - late May through mid - late late October where the highs are typically in the 90s, the lows are rarely below 74, and the dew point rarely goes below 70. Usually up around 74. We hit 90 degrees in February in 2020. There are few opportunities for more technical software jobs and very few places to get outdoors to hike or mountain bike even when the weather isn't unbearable. Outside of downtown/midtown SAV there are virtually NO bike lanes or shoulders on the roads. The traffic is becoming increasingly worse and there seems to be little movement to fix it. It's a good place for many, but I could only last 3 years. A combination of the lack of jobs in software development, very uncomfortable weather, and nearly nowhere to get out into nature to go on proper off road biking or hiking. And with everything considered, it really isn't THAT cheap to live there. However, I will always remember the time spent walking through the downtown squares, Forsyth park and along river street or hiking on the only 3+ mile trail on Skidaway Island. Overall it was a good experience to have. If you like craft beer, Two Tides in the Starland district is good, Southbound closer to downtown is also great. But, about 40 minutes away in Ridgeland SC River Dog Brewing Company is hands down the best brewery in the region. It is definitely worth the trip out there. I'm back out west right now enjoying a 0 degree day with a view of snow capped mountians.
@@yosheef007 oh but it is gentrified. All the poor folk are being driven out of the county. Locals are going west to the surrounding counties to get away from the danger of being shot. The historic district is surrounded by projects that house good and not so good folk. Just be careful that you don't wander into one at 3 in the morning. Walk in packs and not alone after dark. There is a huge population of homeless folks too. Any wooded area or bridge is often their home. Sad but it's reality
This video is very informative. I'm a realtor in Massachusetts and sick of the cold up here. Now planning to move down somewhere warmer. Do you know what do I have to do with my MA real estate license converting it to Georgia state reciprocity wise? Thank you
I moved to Savannah 22 years ago. Best decision I ever made! Let me add to this a little bit. It is an amazing place and people really look out for each other. But with that said on another level the local government has it's frustrations like it does anywhere else. Basically you will not have much government intrusion in your daily life, and I think that's a good thing. However the things that you may need a government for will be a real let down. Stuff like very dangerous drivers who don't have insurance or hit and runs or just a few thugs shooting and killing each other. So not much police help. But also no annoying speed traps. Also you can make a lot of money here just showing up. But good luck finding employees. Overall, it's an amazing place to be part of!
The dryer sheets DO WORK to keep gnats and mosquitoes away from you ! I used to play golf at the University of Montevallo in Alabama…. Its low-lying and swampy areas in and around the course and the pro shop keeps boxes of dryer sheets available for players. Wipe one on your face and ears then tuck it into your collar.
Grew up in Florida. We also have Palmetto bugs. Let me tell you what, the amount of Palmetto bugs I had to deal with growing up crawling on me or across the wall or waking up to find one dead and bloated in my water glass on the nightstand!! And those suckers FLY! 😂 But I don’t care, I LOVE the South and can’t wait to move back. Savannah is high on my list to visit too!!
Savannah is a great town. Lots of history and culture, not to mention great weather year round. Look forward to hearing from you - Thanks for watching🌴

@@rodc4889 No, it is Paula Dean's place downtown, which she runs with her 2 sons, and she is a featured chef on the Food Network. Your video is very well made, very professional. I’m starting a TH-cam channel as a realtor. May I ask you if you created this yourself or did you have professional help? Thank you.
@elle de clour that's cool and for the humidity part it's hard for me to say now because I grew up in it but in summer it was really hot because of the humidity. So yes humidity is a very big difference between Georgia and California because summers in California are not that bad compared to Savannah. Winters are not the same in Georgia compared to California. Winters in Savannah are cold but sometimes warmer in different days it just depends and there is barely any snow. There are a lot of things to do in Savannah you got river street, tybee island which is the beach, museums, a lot of historic areas, there's much more etc... and yes all I got to say is dont live in the East side of Savannah.
@elle de clour Think swamp. 99 degrees with a heat index of 106 is not comfortable. You get used to it though. Winters are mild, compared to Northern states. Every now and again it gets to 28 in January or February. One day will be frigid the next you're in shorts and a tank top. Unpredictability predictable. We wore shorts this year on Christmas.
There is no comparison with Savannah and California, it's way too different. If you're into drinking and partying all the time, there is plenty to do. For a nondrinking individual you can find things to do. Get to know the locals, downtown good luck on that. Sad thing is most locals have moved to other counties. Myself, I've lived in Effingham and now in Bryan because Effingham has become to crowded with folks fleeing Savannah. Bryan is on its way to becoming the same. Forests are eventually going to become extinct because of housing and warehouses everywhere. The cost of living is cheaper, but thanks to the craze in moving to Georgia hardly any blue collar worker can afford to live in Savannah, Effingham, or Bryan, or Bulloch counties. Rent is impossible thanks to all the BNBs everywhere.
If only the architecture of downtown was how the entire area was. Beautiful homes but not enough and therefore it's way too expensive to live downtown.
The Green Meldrim house is NOT General Sherman's Home. It was his temporary residence as a guest of Mr. Green during the occupation of Savannah in December to January 1864/5. We welcome y'all to Savannah, but do not confuse our history.

I live in California and I’ve always wanted to move to Georgia, Savannah has always been one of the cities on my list. So I’m going through each , and going over the pros and cons. *FYI* California has these new Mosquitoes that just get your ankles and legs 🙄 so idk how I’ll feel about that 😂
I lived in Sonoma County California from birth in 1974 to 2000. I'll say this, the bugs were hard getting used to. But, use bug spray like he said and you're fine. I lived in Chattanooga Tn from 2000 til last year. Moving to Savannah was the best move I ever made. I've been visiting Savannah since 1999. I feel comfortable here. I feel at home.
I live in So Cal and these mosquitos that terrorize your ankles are here too. We have theorized that since everyone uses gardeners for their lawnmowing that they spread these little bugs across all the yards in the area. It's BAD! Which city did you end up picking?

Moved to Colorado from California 10 years ago. Colorado has now become little California. Overly expensive and bad politics. Denver is nothing special in my opinion. The mountains are beautiful but overcrowded at this point. Not a fan of the cold dry air either. Savannah is definitely a place I’m interested in moving to!
There's a hell of a lot more swamp than Beach here. And Downtown Savannah you might get robbed. When it did snow here back in 2018 it was like some kind of weird fake snow because it was still on the ground when it was plus 60 degrees. There's some really nice places on the outskirts of Savannah where it's not so populated. Downtown Savannah is a nice place to visit I lived there for a little while never again

Nice points, I'd love to see an insider downtown (historic area) tour
We loved our experience to camp overnight there. Learned lots of great history about the fort. Thanks for watching🌴
It sound ungentrified, perfect
You trying to turn it into a neck beard heaven lool thank God yall left
@@yosheef007 oh but it is gentrified. All the poor folk are being driven out of the county. Locals are going west to the surrounding counties to get away from the danger of being shot. The historic district is surrounded by projects that house good and not so good folk. Just be careful that you don't wander into one at 3 in the morning. Walk in packs and not alone after dark. There is a huge population of homeless folks too. Any wooded area or bridge is often their home. Sad but it's reality

@trytolookbusy Hi, will you please elaborate on what you mean when by making a lot of money in Savannah just by showing up?

The dryer sheets DO WORK to keep gnats and mosquitoes away from you !
I used to play golf at the University of Montevallo in Alabama…. Its low-lying and swampy areas in and around the course and the pro shop keeps boxes of dryer sheets available for players.
Wipe one on your face and ears then tuck it into your collar.

What part of Savannah did you grow up? Maybe we can bring you back one day. Thanks for watching! 🌴
@@PhilipRandolphREALTOR I grew up on the west side
