I have read the original p-51 took advantage of the Meredith effect and actually generated up to 300 lbs of thrust with the radiator scoop. I wonder if the T-51 generates some thrust this way
Check out the youtube channel "greg's airplanes and automobiles". He just did a video that talked about the Meredith effect and the P-51. It seems that it has been overblown in its effect on performance.
My instrumented flight experiments in this vein would indicate that this isn't true. The T51 rad layout is not even as well designed at the original P51.
@@rv6ejguy That would be in line with what I have heard. Something that has been pointed out is that the BF109, Spitfire and Tempest all took advantage of the Meredith effect with their radiator inlets as well. The Mustang's might have been a little better designed aerodynamically but not enough to have any real impact.
Wow. So want one of these. Great vid, Mike. Keep up the good work. Btw, were you tempted to go with one of these when selecting your TSI? An airplane should be chosen based on the mission. So, what, then, is the mission? It's so subjective. Is it to cruise x-country with a low fuel burn? Or is it to go Mach 2 with your hair on fire?
probably neither of those. Rapid climb to altitude in a practice area then do wing-overs and such, pretending to be stalking an Me109. At least that's what I plan.

Could you do a video on this subject and outline the viability of building kits such as the T-51, and selling it for a profit, or any other kits? Maybe outline which kits would bring the greatest return for investment?
How much do you think it would go for completed and ready to fly? It takes about 1,600 hrs to build so at 50/hr you'd be asking 80k? 40 hrs a week would have you do a plane in 40 weeks give or take. Sounds reasonable but are they selling for over the kit price?

The S-51 looks so much better than the T-51, because of the front engine cowlings. The S-51 cowlings have actual curved metal, and is more authentic looking and a tiny bit more fluid and aerodynamic compared to the T-51. T-51's are nice, but noting compared to the S-51.
LS is the only way to go. You can take a 200K Junkyard LS, put it in your hotrod, turbo charge it and make 800hp without doing anything to the internals.
