    Looks like you were in what is usually described as an accessible room (or that had facilities for disabled visitors) and as another commenter said the peephole would probably be for wheelchair users. Being vegetarian myself I share your dilemma over attending functions and lack of options available, I too am not a fan of eggs but will eat and omelette as long as it's well cooked and has something such as cheese, mushrooms, vegetables etc to distract me from the egg.

      Oh thank you for educating me, I think you're right. I have stayed in accessible rooms before but they've been located on the ground floor so it didn't occur to me that the peep hole would be for a wheelchair user. Also thanks for telling me what the other comment says as it's a hidden comment that I can't see (if the person who commented is reading this I'm not ignoring you, and I appreciate you commenting!)

      @@LoppyLoves Yes usually accessible rooms are either ground floor or as near as in hotels because heaven forbid if the lift were to break or worse, I would have thought they would have to have another safe exit to leave from. Although I'm no expert on health and safety and certainly not in Iceland 😃
