Minilik Ethiopian Restaurant has long been my all time favourite restaurant in Iceland. It's in the town of Flúðir in the South, it's the same town where the famous Secret Lagoon is. I went to the restaurant last week and decided to make a video about it. This video was not filmed in collaboration with the restaurant. I paid for my own meal, the owners do not know I made this video, and everyth...

Your hair likely got darker because of lack of sun. Look up "photo bleaching." The sun's UV rays can break down the melanin pigment in hair. 😊
It was thought at one time in most of Europe that mental illnesses could sometimes be traced to the conception, if syphilis (or a similar STD) was transmitted at the same time. It's an interesting possibility as vampire stories are often interpreted as being about sexually transmitted diseases: there's the penetration, though usually of the neck, a transfer of bodily fluids, the infection being carried in the blood, a craving for more blood (which is supposed to represent a hightened sexual appetite and a descent into depravity), further spreading the disease and causing more victims to fall into the same state of depravity. Whether or not you or I see the stories in the same light doesn't matter. I'm just pointing out that some others do and it might be a nice tie-in to the idea of the main vampire, Dracula's niece, being the daughter of a promiscuous father. I guess it will remain as conjecture, though. I really enjoyed the video. Thanks a lot.
Just what I needed to push past my learning plateau! Thanks for posting this!
Glad you found it useful 🙂 thanks for watching!
Happy New Year, Lauren!
@@JessieCori Happy New Year!
Wishing you the best for the New Year. 🎉🎉
@susanashcroft2674 Happy new year! 🎉
On behalf of everyone in Canada and the USA..we are so jealous of u...why not do a video of why is it so damn hard for us to get work visas and citizenship in that beautiful country 😢
@motokenny8045 thanks for the idea, I've been trying for a while to get someone who had to go through the process to come and talk in the channel about it but no luck so far! I'll keep trying though 🙂 Happy New Year!
happy new year loppylove
Happy new year!
I’m more than willing to exchange with any Icelander who wants to live in the UK it’s 2 bed ground floor flat, fully air conditioned and a small garden 👍🏻 hit me up xx
Most certainly a beautiful spot ❤
Beautiful! And the lights in the trees! I wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!
Yes the lights are gorgeous 😍 Merry Christmas to you too!
Its cold, isolating, nothing to do, far away from all the fun festivals that happen in Europe. Cant take train or drive to other countries like if you lived in Europe to do spontaneous things. Nore do you get to know interesting people from different countries. Housing market and loan pretty ridiculous, bad transportation. Not diverse carrier opportunities nor educational opportunities, that why students prefer to live in other Nordic countries. Dating market sucks and if you lived in Europe you get a bigger pool people to know specially because you can take trains or drive to the country next to yours.
Hi Lauren! How lovely! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Lmao. They are fckin tricky questions in exam. Have failed more than 4 times, because of poor translation from Icelandic to English...
It is really tricky because of the way the questions are worded!
Fantastic! Congratulations, Lauren! The pieces are beautiful.
Thanks Jessie!
❤
Nice to hear from someone who has moved to Iceland then back to their home town , a really good point of view !
Glad you enjoyed it 😊 thanks for watching!
Gl!!!
Hi!
The prices are getting ridiculous all over europe. In Italy we are experiencing the SAME salary in the past at least 20 years, but the prices are weirdly increasing every year. The prices of electricity is completely outrageous and a single person can't cope with the cost of life. Be very very cautious if you think to go abroad and leave Iceland.
Yes it's very hard everywhere at the moment
I read this last year and it's pretty good at first, but then it just turns into a summary. In that respect, it reminded me of the Turkish Dracula adaptation. But to be fair, the best parts of Stoker's book are definitely the opening act in Transylvania.
Oh I really enjoy the rest of the story after the Transylvania part!
Hi! Could i contact you in private? By telegram or e mail? I have some questions about Iceland since i am planning to move there. I'm from Italy
Another pleasant and informative interview. Thank you. Have you decided not to have each interviewee leave a question for the next person, or is that maybe just done offline?
@timpointing glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching Yes, the eurovision question was left from the person interviewed before 🙂 The question left by the previous guest are answered at the end of each interview and the interviewee sends me a message after recording with the question that they want to leave for the next person. The videos are not uploaded in the order of when the interviews took place to maintain anonymity of who asked which question, hope that helps!
Each time I plan a trip to Iceland some big problem arises. Iceland therefore doesn't exist.
@theplayers7434 it's true, Iceland doesn't exist
@LoppyLoves 😂 sort of The Truman Show
Iceland is definitely never going to be the country for me. Thank you for this information.
I have just thought about this I have seen photographs of Briard dogs living in Iceland, however since they are guardian/herding breed, they probably live in the country.
Thanks for watching!
You may be interested in The Undead by Joel H Emerson who edited the original Dracula with four original characters that were omitted from the finished version, Kate Reed, Detective Cotford, artist Francis Aytown and reporter and occult investigator Alfred Singleton, which I found very interesting.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into this 🙂
So helpful. I am finishing Icelandic 4 and I am super nervous in anticipation of my exam. Listening to you made me more at ease, because I could imagine going through the test and how everything will look like. Thanks for posting this video!
@Antishy good luck in the exam! With Icelandic 4 I'm sure you'll have no problem passing 😁
I think of food as an expensive souvenir in Iceland.
Nice! thane thanks!
Thanks for watching!
You would be worth crossing oceans of time for... skol.
As promised (reposted from an other channel): If you have read Dracula by Bram Stoker, I would suggest that you check out the newly discovered swedish version, published as a serial in Sweden in 1899-1900. It's an interesting read, and differs a lot from the traditional Stoker's version. In 2017 a version of Dracula, Makt myrkranna / Powers of Darkness : Lost Version of Dracula was discovered in Iceland (published 1900-1901). It was much shorter than Stoker's. Swedish publisher Rickard Berghorn recognized the title, and decided to do some serious research about it. He met with success. It turned out that in 1899-1900 there was published (in swedish) a serial, Mörkrets makter (Powers of Darkness), which was almost twice as long as the 1897 Stoker's Dracula. This was all in all a novel in its own right, with Count Draculitz scheming to take over the world. The novel differs a lot from the Stoker version. Who is responsible for that version/translation is still much of an open question, as far as I understand. The title was known since earlier, but to react to it, find the text, and show that it was so big, and so different, was a great scoop for Mr Berghorn and his friends. The book is published in swedish through Mr Berghorn's imprint Aleph Bokförlag, and in english through his imprint Timaios Press. [This english translation is also published by Centipede Press, in August 2022.)] cheers / CS
Thank you! I'll definitely try to find a copy!
Beautiful idea Lauren, I will see you soon. Cheers!
Thank you 😊
Love it! Excellent and very informative. Also: I love liquorice all sorts, but not the pure liquorice pieces; I now know who to give them to!
Glad you liked it! I've enjoyed these interviews as I get a lot from them too 🙂
I want to ask you a question, can I follow you on instagram,I click your story link from there
Yes you can follow me on instagram 😊

Nice footage, we hyperlapsed our drives last year we didi the 1 and other areas
@@Earl_Robinson_UK thank you, I'll have a look at some of your videos 🙂
This reminds me of places that my heart loves, where the true muisc is the sounds of the winds and water.
You are doing a very good job of telling the story! But perhaps the sleepwalking was part of her wanting the check up on daddy, in case he's do out again, or coming for her!
@@PaulHillery Thank you 🙂 Oh yes, that's a great theory!
I wonder of you have ever discovered a band that has some very clever lyrics, and have first class songs you could call Gothic, (but they also, have a couple that could be called sci-fi.) This band is The Gathering. And they have a song best viewd on their live 2005 concert video on youTube. It's called Rescue Me. It took me a couple times to realise it is about a women being buried alive. Another is from a studio recording never performed live, as far as I can tell. It is Now Your Travels Are Over.' And there's Forgotten Reprise,. But this band is much more than '90s goth. They - in the hands of their singer/song-writer Anneke van Giersbergen adressed social issue and also personal events in the lives of their generation. Unabashedly. Highly recommended! The youtubed concerts from 2007 & 2005 are classic.
I haven't listened to them before but I'll have a listen, thanks for the recommendation!
Do you go back to read new comments on your older videos?
Yes, if I get notifications about them I try to respond or react to every comment 😊
My husband and I are dressing as Vlad Dracul and Mina for our Victorian Halloween party and I am so excited. My brother-in-law has us wanting to take a cruise to Iceland. 2 random facts that drew me to this channel and video. lol. Which is very well done, haha vintage fan fic, love it. ThoughI love Dracula the book, I did love Renfield and Mina from the 1931 film, and I really loved the past life connection between Vlad and Mina in the Bram Stoker Dracula film. Bella L
I love that both of those things brought you here 😊 Your Halloween costumes sound great! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching
Slartibartfast!!!! 😂
That's my favourite 😂
Sounds great!
It's a brilliant restaurant!
I can't hear the name Wilma without picturing The Flintstones.
Same here! 😂
It's always nice to recommend and also give praise to a good place and especially a good place to eat. Being vegetarian too it's always good to know you have more than just one option as in this day and age (unlike when I was younger) there are so many vegetarian dishes out there with flavour and no one should have to settle for a cheese salad, vegetable lasagne or mushroom stroganoff!! Hope your positive review brings new custom to the place. Best Wishes.
Yes I love it when there's more than one option, here a lot of places just offer a veggie burger which gets boring very quickly!
Sounds like BS of a different nature, right? 😉
It’s fiction, sweetie. No need to get upset.
@@tananario23 Oh dear. Yet another nitwit who thinks an opinion other than joyous praise is an indication of anger.
It is always greener on the far side of the mountain...till you go there, I am from Ireland and I came to Australia to live ......sunshine and all that stuff, the biggest mistake of my life ( 40. c in summer and 5 thousand dollars house taxes per year and 100s of other reasons you only find out as an expat living away from your culture and family) Europe is a great place and close to Home... being isolated and far from home...never again.
Maybe the manuscript they sent the guy to translate was an accidental early draft of Dracula. It would explain why he might not have liked Dracula.
That's a good theory!
Great video and story, how did you find immigrating to Iceland? I'm a nurse, but I don't think my qualification transfers there
Thank you 😊 for me it wasn't so difficult because I was still an EU citizen at the time. I've heard it's difficult for nurses to get their qualifications transferred over but it's worth a try! I believe that there is a Facebook group for foreign nurses in Iceland
@@LoppyLoves thanks, I'll look at it. Yeah the UK's nurse training system doesn't often transfer to other European countries unfortunately
@@DK-cy5mt that's a shame, my British qualifications in the jewellery industry also don't transfer here unfortunately. I do believe there are a couple of British nurses here, they might've transferred everything before Brexit or maybe took further education here
@@LoppyLoves it's the adult nursing qualification that tends to transfer, mental health and developmental disability nurses often struggle
