    Love the celery seed...
I've heard celery seed called a "secret ingredient" in potato salad too...

ya know AtomicHellRaiser, (digg that UN) barbecue is all about what your gut is tellin' you what you should do. Go for it, and get back to us! You're makin' us hungry with the whole concept of a rub on a Porterhouse. -BBQ Pit Boys

Hey dorowater, you're makin' us blush. That ol' boy from the Dukes was the immortal Waylon Jennings, the roots of Outlaw Country music. Now, when a woman finds out you can cook real good, they start hangin' around 'cause they feel ya really don't need a woman around. That ain't sexist -it's just the way it is! -BBQ Pit Boys

I agree. Can't do ribs without brown sugar. Some people do cinnamon, but that's more a scent than a taste after you cook it.

easy now, AtomicHellRaiser, if you have yourself a Porterhouse, then salt and pepper is all ya need. That beef flavor in that porter..should not be covered up with rub. Now a good steak sauce on the side for dippin' in after grillin' that porter.. is a whole other story! -BBQ Pit Boys

@daniel75633 Daniel, you are correct about the sugar burning if you grill. However if you BBQ the ribs at 225 to 250 with indirect heat burning isn't a problem.

It's a little more coarse than regular salt, so it seems to not dissolve as much while on the meat (sorta sticks around longer). Try it out and see what you think. I'm sure a coarser iodized salt would work just as well.

Good content! Great recipe, rubs always seem to mystify folks - good job. Love the addition of the celery seed. I just made a short film on making sweet tea with my kiddoes, they had a great time making it, maybe we'll start doing this more often. Come by and check it out! Have a great day!

I definately need to try this rub out except ill use brown sugar. we had an original coal smoker which my father had converted to electric a long time ago an hasnt been used in years but I really have been wanting to learn how to smoke some ribs and other meats since I've recently discovered that I really enjoy cooking. Usually when I cook ribs i put basic garlic salt, lemon pepper and add water and a seal of foil to cook but would the rub stay on if i tried them in the oven ?

i donno hard to explain, you would really hav eto try it yourself, but with that 1 little tablespoon of cayenne pepper, and the larger amounts of everything else, you can still taste it

i was wandering about the sugar in the rub, i know if a lot is used it will burne, when grilled, what is the best way to keep that from happening

I'm sure this tastes better on the meat but I made the same recipe with the same ingredients minus the cumin because I didn't have any and tasting just the rub dry without meat was undesirable but im sure on meat it's better.
