    So, to help everyone ... here is Nick's recipe ...
    4 TBS Salt --> not sure if it is Table Salt or Kosher Salt ... [In the above, I asked Nick what it was.] --> Also, seems like a lot of salt, unless it is Kosher Salt. You sure this is right measurement?
    4 TBS Brown Sugar
    4 TBS Paprika
    2 TBS Garlic Powder
    2 TBS Onion Powder
    2 TBS Chili Powder
    2 tsp Cumin
    1 TBS Black Pepper
    2 tsp Cayenne

    Seasoning won’t really go bad in the sense that it’ll make you sick, but you will gradually lose the intensity of the flavor profiles over time.

    Very nice rub mix! I would say nix the salt, just because salting should be a separate action. That way you can salt correctly and add as little or as much spices as your heart desires :)

    • @Nicks-BBQ
      @Nicks-BBQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is actually really solid advice. I can definitely agree. I wonder why some rubs you buy in the store have salt in them? I wonder if the salt acts not as I preservative than for flavor enhancement? I'll have to research this to learn more!

      That's awesome! After you make this you can tweak it to match the flavor profile you like. I always change a little something till I find the perfect blend. This has a more smoky flavor because of the cumin and chili powder. I know out people would like more brown sugar and less cumin and chili powder to give it more of a sweet flavor. Glad you liked the video and hope it goes well for ya!

    Excellent video. Yes, I enjoy making my own rubs and sauces. Loved watching you explain what and why. I also don't want sodium in my bought rubs. I like to brine and dry brine my proteins. SO many rubs that say "NO SALT" lists Sodium. That's salt. I don't like that. I've been mixing my own rubs for years now. My biggest influences are Ry and Malcolm How To BBQ Right. Thanks for the feedback. Do you think it is? Traditional Texas BBQ is just salt and pepper. That is 50 percent salt and 50 percent pepper. Or some do 2 parts pepper one part salt. I think it comes down to how heavy you coat something. Have you ever smoked a brisket or pork butt? I put a lot of salt on them and don't think its too salty.
